Toradora! 21

Ami finally explodes on Minorin. I certainly didn’t expect her to lose her calm, but the buildup of the tension was nicely done, I’ll have to say.

On the other hand, Taiga (inadvertently) confesses her feelings to Ryuji. How will Ryuji respond to that?

And I have gotta say, the winter-wear in this episode looks really fugly.

    I haven’t seen the whole episode yet, but that first picture there of Ami punching(?) Minori… is it me or is Taiga trying to hold Minori while Ami’s getting her shot? ^_^;

I just finished watching the episode and all that build-up was simply mind boggling. When Ami god that punch in I was thinking “damn no oil wrestling” but still a couple slaps n punches are good to. That being said I wonder how Ryuuji will respond to Taiga’s feelings. Only time will tell….. (actually if this anime follows the regular plat line then it will be Taiga x Ryuuji anyways)

I’m still rooting for Ami x Ryuji. Thus episode was as touching as the previous few episodes.

Great thing about this show: the girl on girl fights are actually really entertaining in a non-sexual way. Hell the fights are more fun to watch than anything in a Shonen Jump anime.

I was actually disappointed by Ami this episode, but in a realistic way:

Instead of confronting Ryuuji, she tried to expose the Minori-Taiga-Ryuuji love triangle for some strange reason. I’m not quite sure I follow her strategy. Why she would want to hear Minori admit to the fact that she and Taiga like the same boy is beyond me… Maybe she thinks that they’ll cancel out?

Personally, I was hoping that Ami would lay it all out in front of Ryuuji herself. From where I sit, Ami’s the best match, but Ryuuji’s least likely choice. Maybe she’s afraid that if all of the cards are out on the table, she’ll have no chance. I have no idea.

Oh, and to all of the haters who claimed that Ryuuji didn’t show romantic interest in Taiga, this episode + the Xmas one should change your mind. You don’t need to pine after someone to fall in love with them (the Ruroni Kenshin OVA is a pretty good anime reference, if you don’t have a real life one to go on).

On a less serious note, I LOVED the Taiga-Towel scene. The art really shines in the little moments (Taiga + doughnut, Taiga + towel, Yakuza-Ryuuji, etc). I was only a little disappointed that Yuri-sensei didn’t make a cuter ski-bunny. ;)

The winter-wear was meant to be fugly. That’s why everyone was throwing hissy-fits in this episode.

Taiga’s confession was the best moment of the series thus far. The build-up to the Minori/Ami fight was very nice too. If there’s anything to take away from ToraDora!, it is that girls can be just as violent or even more violent than guys.

I don’t think it’s really a strategy. She likes Ryuuji, but doesn’t have his attention. He dotes on Taiga almost like a daughter or little sister, and secretly loves Minorin. She’s jealous, and acting a bit catty despite how mature all the other characters (except Ryuuji) think she is. Right now, it looks like she’s just lashing out at a rival. I started watching this show simply because it was hilarious. I never expected it to get this deep, and now I’m doubly glad to have been watching it.

I think part of Ami’s blowup goes beyond her like of Ryuuji, to what she hates in herself… and which Minori’s been unconsciously mimicking the pas while with her cheerful airhead persona, which is as much a mask these days as Ami’s nice girl act. So here’s Minorin apparently getting away with doing the thing that Kitamura pushed Taiga and Ryuuji onto Ami to stop… and SNAP. The fact she doesn’t like what this is doing to Ryuuji, given that she likes him as well, means she’s got even more of an excuse to lash out and get Minorin to show her true face to Ryuuji and Taiga, the one hiding behind the ‘I’ll push Ryuuji towards Taiga and pretend nothing’s wrong’ persona.

This anime continues to amaze me.
Few series have made me laugh aloud one moment, and then groan, “oh no, this is bad”.
“Bad for Ryuuji, Bad for Taiga, Bad for Ami, Bad for Minori, Bad for Kusheida.
Jeex, why doesn’t everyone just come out and say it?”
Of course, that would simply make Toradora another one of the predictable romance stories that are seen pretty much everywhere. The characters act in flawed, human ways, and don’t ‘come out and say it’ because of the very human fear of being hurt.
    I get goosebumps.
    This episode, I give 5/5.

Man, this episode sealed my opinion of Ami. I thought I’d come to like Ami eventually, but her constant sarcastic remarks makes me irritated. At first, she came off as just a smart-alec which I didn’t mind. But now it’s just her being bitter.

Yeah, I’ve been doing my best to analyze Minorin’s emo mode lately. The character interaction between Ami and Minorin (or Ami and anyone for that matter…) is really where this show shines in my eyes. Ami’s scenes are completely different than any others in the anime, which is why I love her character.

Takasu is okay and all but he’s no Kyon.
