The meaning of Nakiami’s name

This really just hit me, but Xam’d’s Nakiami is really going to live up to her name and stop the cruel, sacrificial Great Pilgrimage, literally “stopping” many people’s tears. Remember her new name came from a corruption of “Naki yame” lit. “stop crying”.

And Xam’d seriously needs to be longer. Or BONES needs to explain their stories better. There’s a ton of stuff in the world of Xam’d, but hardly anything is properly explained. In that way, it’s similar to Darker than Black. That iceberg analogy someone told me really fits both DtB and Xam’d. At least Xam’d has a much more engaging storyline.

DtB explained a lot more than Xam’d has, and I think it’s because more characters were out of the loop about Contractors and such in DtB… everyone in Xam’d seem to take its cosmology as common knowledge.

Isn’t there going to be a second run of another 25 episodes?

I haven’t kept up with Xam’d, but wow they STILL haven’t explained anything?

@Avisch: There is? But the show’s already feeling like it’s ending. And yes, they’ve really been touching only the tip of everything hinted in the show. BONES seems to think they can invent bombastic words and concepts and get away with it.

Though I must say, some of them you can actually conjecture out from common concepts. The Ruikon Flow for example seems to be their version of the collective human consciousness.

Good catch on Nakiami’s name, but I think that was a bit obvious in ep 25 :3

I haven’t heard about a second run of Xam’d, but it might be all together too early to speculate. We haven’t seen ep 26 yet!

It feels like they could have taken a little more time explaining everything, and that is something they sort of did over the course of ep 20-24. And 25, too. So maybe that’s the problem, everything is coming together way too late.

Bounen no Xamdou = 52 eps of Eureka Seven compressed into 26 episodes. I’ve been getting similar vibes since day 1.

I agree with the unexplained terminology and concepts, but I get the feeling it’s intentional. I agree that they don’t quite hit the target by getting us immersed, but I love Bones as my #1 favorite studio. More than anyone else, they’ll take risks on gutsy original concepts and occasionally non-traditional storytelling like this.

Ever play Shadow of the Colossus (Wanda to Kyouzu)? The most basic questions of the game are never answered, it’s up to your imagination to fill in the blanks of who the girl is and why you’re so desperate to revive her. Oblivion is a western game with a story mechanic, it’s up to you to imagine why you start the game in jail.

Nah, Xam’d didn’t live up to E7 for me. It had an epic story, but there was so many vapid details just fluttering around and it seemed more mess than required. Also, yes, there is so much the viewer is left to infer… that’s sort of annoying, and I’m not talking about the occurrences, but the reasoning. A good example would be Midori, just what the hell was that about? It was like a side story!

I jotted some stuff down after I finished Xamd, and hope to come back with some answers I can be satisfied with. It definitely should have been ~50 episodes.

Actually Xam’d could use a 2nd season to finish wrapping up almost all its lose ends. Its like E7, they wrapped up the lose ends of the un-explained technologies within the last 5 eps, Xam’d could take a page from E7 and fully explain out alot of issues most of us Viewers are wondering over, like :

Why and what is the Hiruken Emperor’s purpose?

Xam’ds serves as what purpose in the whole scenario?

What caused the Tessiks to leave their holy land?

Why must the people be sacrificed for the world?

What is a Hiruko and how is it produced?

Humanform weapons, How do they manufacture it?

    and last….

How did Akiyuki turns from a Rock to become himself again?

Why and what is the Hiruken Emperor’s purpose?
Was created by the people who didn’t kill the original humanform that was born wrong he soon got to powerful.

Xam’ds serves as what purpose in the whole scenario?
Xam’ds were created to kill the emporor.

What caused the Tessiks to leave their holy land?
The tessiks left because the two factions started taking it over for the red gems.

Why must the people be sacrificed for the world?
The people were sacraficed with Xam’ds to stop the emporor for another couple of years.

What is a Hiruko and how is it produced?
Hiruko is made from the seed things that are implanted and when the green soul gem thing is implanted it causes them to become The chosen Xam’d that are meant to fight the emporer.

Humanform weapons, How do they manufacture it?
Human form weapons are just creatures they aren’t manufactured and they are controlled with the ring that is on them.

    and last….

How did Akiyuki turns from a Rock to become himself again?

The akiyuki in the end was the emporer because akiyuki gave the emporer himself and the emporer gained his life body memories and stuff the akiyuki that turned to stone was just the husk of the xam’d that was left over.
