Toradora! 08

Man, I so wanted to watch this episode earlier, but had a lot of preparations to do for AFA. Thank god I finally managed to watch it before going off because this was such an awesome episode. Taiga is truly Toradorable!

This episode is probably a milestone of sorts in their relationship with each other, as it definitely exhibits Taiga’s growing dependency and feelings for Ryuji even though she’s not fully committing as to what those feelings are now. It’s really quite a refreshing change from the usual straightforward romance shows.

Taiga has fully gone Toradorable to me now with her tsundere antics and most importantly, her redeeming points. You see, part of the tsundere package is to have a redeeming feature or two, which in most cases when the character goes in to dere-dere mode. Taiga’s even more better in that while she’s still tsun-tsun mode, she has the redeeming features of giving up and willing to get her hands dirty for what she wants, shown quite prominently in this episode.

Also unlike other Kugyuu tsundere’s who can’t seem to be fully honest with themselves, Taiga’s actually pretty honest about her own feelings to herself, even if she might not actually realize what they are. The poolside argument with Ryuji was an extremely defining moment for her character to me and added up with her rescue of Ryuuji in the pool plus her bold declaration towards her classmates really endeared her character a lot to me.

Well, that’s so much about Taiga for me. I have to mention a bit about Ami as well, and that short vending machine scene with her and Ryuuji together was nicely done one. Somehow Ami looks so natural while sitting there, hahaha. I’m actually starting to like her, lol. In some ways, she’s actually even more tsun-tsun than Taiga, XD.

Man, it really is starting to seem like Ryuuji’s gotten the magic (harem lead) pheromones.

And Minorin. Oh god Minorin. Minorin is just the most awesome show-stealer ever at times.

Well put, it’s quality above Shana and ZnT in terms of values and development… there’s something here, and there’s nothing special about it. The sweet mix.

Dependency isn’t really a GOOD thing in a romantic relationship. And at least Minorin isn’t part if the ‘harem’, which is a change from the formula.

    >>Taiga is truly *Toradorable*!

Are you trying to make this a household name now? lol

Uh, Haesslich. Their relationship isn’t exactly to a level that you can call “romantic”. Anyways, it’s actually a good thing to have some one you can depend on, unless you’re a paranoid delusional hikkikomori.

Besides, isn’t the point of a romantic relationship to have someone you can depend on and love? Not saying you need to depend on one person totally and utterly to the point of helplessness, but having someone to depend or be dependent on is a pretty happy thing, really.

When a girl screams to her classmates “Don’t touch him, he’s mine!”, then bursting into uncontrolled crying while crouched protectively over him, what are you as a classmate to conclude with the following givens:

    > she previously trashed their classroom denying a romantic relationship
    > Ami openly wants some alone time with Ryuuji during summer break
    > despite denials, Taiga seems inseparable from Ryuuji in and out of class

@Hesslich, there are confirmed spoilers on that matter.

    OTP, OTP.

The romantic developments and the awesome are the singular reason why I am watching this show, and they really don’t disappoint…

I’ve read spoilers for the later volumes, and they are indeed awesome. Let’s hope JC Staff can actually be faithful to the original work for once… >_>

It’s no Haruhi, but Toradora is indeed Toradorable, heh.

Kurogane: I’d suggest avoiding the use of ‘dependency’ in this case then – yes, she does lean on Ryuuji, but ‘dependency’ means she can’t get ANYTHING done without him or requires his emotional support in order to continue living. Being able to depend on someone and dependency have two different meanings – the latter is somewhat unhealthy and negative, while the former just means that you can trust them and rely on them to back you up. Now, if you’d said that she’d become closer to Ryuuji, I could accept that statement just fine – that’s why she tried what she did this episode, after all.

PassingGas: If they’re following the novel sources, there’ll be a long conversation which will explain/deal with/handle those ‘spoilers’ that you hinted at.

    Toradorable…i like it!
Has anybody entered it in Wiki? Maybe under Tsundere?

I was reading the comments for this post and I just wanted to point out that it’s odd how anal you’re being about the use of someone’s words. No offense (and I do mean, no offense), but why be so sticky about it? Everyone understood what Kurogane meant when he said what he said… especially if you watched the episode… (lol).
Conclusion: let’s chill with overly analyzing anime, ok? They’re JUST anime…

    Thanks for the post, Kurogane!
Oh and doesn’t anyone think that Ruuyji is the FIRST deserving man in terms of harem??? He’s a GREAT guy! I love him! If I was a girl-anime-charact., I’d love him too, regardless of how many girls liked him!

Kethy-chan: Given that people have been jumping on the ‘I hate ToraDora bandwagon because Taiga is an abusive bitch’, this is NOTHING. Especially given that people are already gaining Taiga-hate for her calling Ryuuji a dog… or for taking advantage of him, or for thinking that she’s a psychotic bitch.
