That’s right, it’s almost time for Comic Fiesta 2008! This year I’ve been approached by the committee to stir up some promotion as well as reporting extra information directly from them regarding the new events that will be upcoming in this year’s CF.
About Comic Fiesta
First off, let’s have a bit of a history lesson. Comic Fiesta (CF) is Malaysia’s longest running fan-organized Anime, Games and Comics (ACG) event here and it’s been held annually since it’s first iteration in 2002. CF is somewhat like Japan’s venerable Comiket (on a much more smaller scale of course) and like Comiket, it focuses on bringing ACG fans throughout the country together and it’s one of the main platforms for cosplayers and local doujinshi (fan works) groups to showcase their talents and/or art works (a lot do both).
Over the years, it has steadily grown in scale as well as fame and it’s now firmly marked on many local ACG fans calenders as one of the times everyone can get together and have a smashing fun time!
Comic Fiesta 2008
This year’s CF will be held at the Sunway Convention Center in Petaling Jaya (location map here, accomodation guide is here ) over two days on the 20th and the 21st of December, and it’s themed “Bridging the Creatives”, promising to be bigger and better than last year’s CF (quite a tall order, I assure you).
Aside from the customary doujin market, art competition (entries closing on the 6th of December), cosplay solo and group events as well as showcase galleries, this year’s CF will see the inclusion of a number of new events such as:
- Portfolio Review Gallery
- Educational workshops
- Art Demonstrations
- Game Corner
… so there’s more events for everyone to enjoy this year.
Tickets can now be purchased via preorders from the official site or from participating outlets (Suncomics, AnimeTech and ComicParadise) nationwide. Ticket prices are RM 15 per day on the spot or RM 25 for both days via preorders. Closing date for preorders is December 1.
More information about Comic Fiesta 2008 (rules, contests, event lists) can be found on their official site, http://comicfiesta.com and questions can be asked on their forums, http://forums.comicfiesta.org.
ComicFiesta is still looking for helpers/volunteers
/slaves for their event, and you can sign up by registering on their forums. Aside from that, they are also looking for bloggers to cover the event (kinda like what AFA is doing), so anyone who is interested may contact me with your blog address and a bit of intro.
