One of the final shows to premiere this season. Only Michiko to Hachin’s left to complete my “Impressions” series.
Chaos;Head is probably the show I have the highest hopes for to succeed and considering the impressions I’ve heard about the source material, also likely the one to have a higher chance of falling flat if they don’t keep the ambience of the VN. Thankfully, the first episode has left a pretty good impression to me.
While it keeps the mysterious atmosphere of the series about, it also manages to entertain well. I didn’t expect the story to be done so… “galge”-ish, especially with Taku’s younger sister and the unmei no deai with a fellow girl otaku as well. Not to mention, Taku’s thoroughly negative narration makes the contrast stand out even more, as well as providing quite some hillarious but burning jabs at otakus.
I sure didn’t expect Taku to have such a cute younger sister but reacting so negatively to her, as well as managing to meet with Kusonoki Yua-senpai, a fellow female otaku. In a way, Taku sure is the ultimate otaku for his, er, devotion towards Sera-chan. Not to mention he bloody lives in a container on a rooftop in Shibuya, which is pretty hardcore or crazy, depending on how you look at it. Also it makes me quite angry he’s rejecting the “3D world” so much despite it handing some good stuff to him on a silver tray.
Man, it’s quite scary how he can reach such a level of self-delusion. Then again, they also dealt quite well with the famous “delusional trigger” system I’ve heard about the game. It felt pretty nicely integrated in to the show without breaking the flow and does a good job at teasing the viewers, such at the “indirect kiss” by Nanami and the swimsuit Kusonoki.
On the NewGene mysteries, the show also does a good primer to the incidents. I’m pretty happy the gore isn’t censored too. Let’s hope we don’t get the same shit that happened during Higurashi and School Days again.
The OP, F.D.D by Itou Kanako is already one of my favourites for this season already and I hope the single comes out soon. The OP footage is also quite interesting, since we see some footage of all the girls handling some really fancy blade weapons. Heck, it kinda makes me think the show’s gonna turn in to a RPG or Battle Royale later. The ED, Super Special, is quite Engrishy but not bad per se. It’s not sticking in my head though. The final pan-shot sure makes it look like Taku’s gonna assemble a pretty awesome harem for himself.
P.S. Pointed out by kct on the channel, the links that are given in this episode ACTUALLY works, but only from 168491-168497 it seems. Also they’re not exactly the same as the anime, although the contents are similar. You can check them out here, but BE WARNED, they are gruesome:
