Fall 2008: 「Kyo no 5-2」 Impressions

The series finally gets a TV counterpart. Sadly, it gets stripped of the fanservice much too… ;_;. No collarbone moe :(.

But still, it had it’s moments, mostly during the original material in the episode. The remakes of the OVA ones just don’t seem funny enough without the fanservice even if they keep the same story. The original material also seem to be sidestepping blatant fanservice in lieu of lighter and more “suitable for the age” humor to present the laughs. The umbrella-sharing one was actually pretty enjoyable.

The big issue I have is the production quality, probably the lowest of all this season. It sure shows with tons of inconsistent drawings and plain ugly keyframes. Even the character designs have went down quite a lot, though they still keep the original characteristics.

The seiyuu cast is also totally changed too. I quite didn’t like it since the original cast was great, but I slowly grew to like the new cast members as well. It’s also the first time I’ve heard MAKO since Kamichu! as well.

OP and ED are sung by the new seiyuus as well. OP’s OK, but I quite liked the ED. Looking forward for the singles.

the ova was much better i thought, in quality and representation. after watching the first episode, i was really disappointed and i was actually really pissed because of the potential the story has. good thing that this anime season has lot of other seemingly good shows to watch like shikabanehime and michiko to hachin.
