Fall 2008: 「Kemeko DX」 Impressions

I faintly remember reading the first chapter of the manga a looooong time ago, but it didn’t make much sense so I left it at chapter 1. Now to hear it being given the anime treatment, maybe I should revise that decision.

The episode was a crazy mix of action, fanservice and bishoujo-piloted chibi fat robot. Heck it kinda feels as crazy as Dokuro-chan was with the constant action and LULZ. Getting used to Kemeko WILL take some time though. It’s uh… eccentric-looking to say the least, and even more so when the pilot is a bishoujo 2x larger than it.

The seiyuu cast is well assembled and it’s probably what will keep me to the series. I miss hearing Mikako Takahashi. Kemeko’s voice is done by Chiwa Saito while her pilot is Haruka Tomatsu, I assume. There’s also Rie Kugimiya (again?!), Ayako Kawasumi, Ryoko Shiraishi and Mai Goto as well to make up the cast list.

The female seiyuus team up to sing the OP, a crazy chorus song that’s enjoyably fun and the combination works damn well too. The ED is sheer madness again too with Kemoko singing and dancing to it. It’s also the first time I’ve think I heard Chiwa Saito sing and her singing voice sure sounds a lot different from her usual voice.

The anime is panel 4 panel manga adaptation for the first episode. ^^ Hope future episodes are at least as good as the first one.

Also, Chiwa has been singing a lot in her past roles, unfortunately she hasn’t been in anything noteworthy in the past year or two…
