Partially. But mainly it seems to be the "difficulty" in voting in Saimoe. Getting a code takes over an hour usually. Some people don't have that kind of time or access to a non-proxied computer for that amount of time.

Saimoe is very strick on its acceptance of IP addresses. With many regions banned (including about all of Korea).

The voting media (the message board on 2ch) is very picky about what is accepts as a legal vote it seems.

Where as Best Moe and the newer ISML are very easy to vote in. Both can be done in minutes rather than hours. Both are multiple choice style rather than typed words on the users part (meaning you don't have to be able to type Korean or English or whatever to vote) IISML is new and American, so it's highest vote count is around 1,260 votes in a match, while Best Moe has just gone over 10,200 votes earlier today. As we've seen in the past, Saimoe itself "can" get up to maybe 5,000 votes in a match...but the last time it did that was in the 2006 final. It has been lucky to break 3,000 votes since then.

Some consider Saimoe the Elitist Saimoe, while the Best Moe is the Saimoe for the ("unwashed") masses. ISML has been called the "fake" Saimoe on 4chan, but it is a very different style of Saimoe. It is rather American in some respects. (round robin matches for 64 contestants (split into 7 rounds of 9 matches with a prize each round for the #1 spot in that round) followed by a double elimination round for the top 16 for an overall winner.)

Something for everyone. Or something to avoid...depending on your point of view.

which makes me wonder why the original Saimoe tournament isn't that popular? is it because of the (seemingly) 2chan anti-gaijin policy?

In semi-related news. Korean Saimoe (Best Moe) has a tie today at 5,183 votes each between Tomoyo Sakagami (CLANNAD) and Akari Mizunashi (ARIA THE ORIGINATION).

A tie at over 5,000 votes? Over 10,000 votes in a single match?

"I’m gonna vote for whoever faces Kana next round."

That's a simple thing to answer: Kyou Fujibayashi from Clannad.

Kana is NOT moe. This is probably a revenge vote set, which means Kana is being set up to take a fall in the semi-finals.

So BOSS wins. Barely.
It seems Minamis squeak out wins in Round Two.
Chiaki should have a fairly easy match though.

Round Three will likely remove all the Minami sisters however. Unless of course the anti-factions rally behind the Minamis to knock out the Clannads (and probably Horo). Interestingly the Minamis aren't registering much hate even with the loss of Rika and now Yuno. Probably because it was close in both and both matches were in the high 500s rather than say the 1,000s with fake vote turnovers that generated a heavy hate on for Louise last year.

That and Minami-ke is a decent comedy.
