Lucky Star OVA “YOU WA SHOCK!” Trailer

A new trailer for the Lucky Star OVA just came out and guess what it’s using as the BGM…

Yup! It’s Ai wo Torimodose from Hokuto no Ken, also popularly known as the “YOU WA SHOCK!” song. Good to see KyoAni hasn’t lost their edge yet. I can’t wait for the OVA!

Yes, Kyoani hasn’t lost there edge for using other people’s music in their shows and leaching off the success of popular franchises that came before them. I agree. Such talent…..

No seriously, Kyoani really need to work on their music department.

Was that some Persona 4 battles I saw there?

Holy *censur*, I wanted to watch this from the very start, now I want to watch it even more.

They did it. In Full Metal Panic the Second Raid, Suzumiya Haruhi and Lucky*Star the series. Granted, it was not Ennio Morricone or Tsuneo Inamori, but this doesn’t deserve comments like yours.

@Sheba: Okay, I’ll give you Full Metal Panic The Second Raids music, but Suzumiya Haruhi was either tolerable rock music to unmemorable synthesizer music and Lucky Star was either licensed music from other series or unmemorable synthesizer music. I can’t say I was impressed by either of those two shows musical efforts, though since the guy who “composed” both Haruhi and Lucky Star’s music seems to have left the company there could be hope for something new in that department.

Well, let’s just hope the OVA itself is good. I’m not the biggest Otaku in the world, but I have some hopes for it just the same.

Unless they have Joe Hisaishi, Tsuneo Inamori, Yoko Kanno, Yuki Kajiura, or any of the top horses of the music, other series have unmemorable or rather uninspired music. I mean look at Nanoha, beside the OPs and EDs, the music had no flair in it, how much I wished Yuki Kajiura worked on it just like she did on the new Hokuto no Ken movies and OAVs. It’s not the studios the problem, it’s the composer.

I disagree, I thought some of the BGM tracks in Haruhi were fantastic.

@Sheba: The only one’s I really like out of those 4 are Joe Hisaishi and Yoko Kanno, and even Yoko Kanno hasn’t been that remarkable latety. My top 3 are actually Kenji Kawai, Toshihiko Sahashi (Yes the FMP guy) and Akira Senju anyway. And yes that’s true, it’s the composer’s problem, not the studios. Still Kyoani has had the same composer for all of it’s non-Key adaptations in the last few years so that still sort of reflects on the studio as a whole now.

Like I said, we’ll see how it goes. I’m not about to base my whole judgement of the OVA off of one trailer, I was just responding to Kurogane’s “hasn’t lost their edge” comment because I think it’s kind of hard to judge that based off of one trailer just because it happens to have a Crystal King song in it. That and I’m not entirely sure what he’s referring to by “edge” other then that they have a thing for using popular 80′s anime theme songs in Lucky Star related material.

    @Kaiosos:

Well I’ve seen the show twice over and can’t remember a single BGM versus shows I’ve only seen a few episodes of yet can remember the entirety of the BGM’s I heard from said episodes. Haruhi’s BGM just didn’t stand out at all as far as I’m concerned.

…That’s the worst misspelling of my name I’ve ever seen…

I guess that’s true. I only really remember most of the themes because I have the OST… they’re still really good, though.

    WTF @ RockhardJohnson really.

I meant they haven’t lost their edge as in pandering to the popular trends of the otaku/Nico crowd. How could that get interpreted as me praising the quality of their BGM composition. I feel REALLY insulted there.

Besides, KyoAni has had some good BGM work in most of their shows. There are some memorable and nice jingles in Lucky Star that I can still recall. It’s pretty insulting that you can think they don’t have good music.

I think most people just don’t notice it because they don’t get the DVD’s with the OST tracks. I’ll admit that’s one weakness of KyoAni when it comes down to it… they don’t like to release a proper O.S.T album.

I second Kuro’s response in WTF @ RockhardJohnson as well for suddenly making an issue out of nothing.

Kuro was referring to Kyo-Ani’s knack for “pandering” (if you don’t like the word “paying tribute”) to the mass otaku culture by playing songs of series that’re popular with them. I’m amazed you didn’t interpret the sarcasm in Kuro’s comment.
