Just bought it today and stayed up till now to finish reading it. Overall, another typical Artemis Fowl book, although it must be said the humor keeps getting a bit duller by the installment. Artemis’ own jabs at himself can only get so funny. Good ‘ol Mulch still provides the reliable laugh, I still remember Book 1. Farts are deadly.
Also, one can’t really shake the feeling that Eoin Colfer is kinda trolling us fans here a bit, with the whole time paradox plot, especially when it ends up full circle back to book one. I mean, well, I always thought that Artemis was one-of-a-kind, but now here’s him being thrown in a predeterminal causal loop which kinda feels, well y’know, getting trolled.
Then there was also the issue of the romantic tension between Arty and Holly in the book, somewhat inelegantly introduced in like, after 5 books and 8 years together, not to mention after putting in Mary Sue character Minerva in the last book, only to have her not mentioned at all this time. I was actually hoping for more development on that angle.
Finally, to solidify the feelings of getting “trolled”, a certain megalomaniacal genious fairy is back out on the loose, at the ass-end of the book. Oh boy….
