Negima Ala Alba OAD 01

Negima Ala Alba

No sheer amount of tears or words will express my happiness towards the new Negima OAD, Ala Alba. Finally, after 5 years, a real Negima animation production!

Seriously, I love how accurate to the manga this series is. All the eye colors are correct, the characters are acting themselves properly and the amount of eyecandy is just win. Animating Chao’s final battle and her return was quite the cocktease of the production team, dammit.

I sure shed tears at finally seeing animated gothloli Asuna, lolita Evangeline and Daisuke Ono was definitely born for the role of Albireo a.k.a KFC. They also dealt with the spell casting in a unique way, with the characters on screen chanting the spells in the Japanese meaning while the Latin chants are relegated to the background as a chorus of sorts. It does make it quite hard to catch the words at some parts, but I think this is very interesting way of the production team to deal with the spellcasting chants.

Content-wise, it correctly adapts chapters 176 and 177 of the manga, with minor changes here and there, but those are pretty much unnoticeable anyways unless you’re a perfectionist. So expect to see … wait, I’m gonna post like 80 screencaps of the episodes anyways, so enjoy! Right, 56k’ers better watch out.

P.S. OAD means Original Animation DVD. Got asked like 10 times tonight already.

though the aod felt rushed and low budgeted at times(i guess it can’t be helped for an aod which is just an extra for a volume of the manga) it felt great, after watching how many number of failed adaptations of negima we finally have a REAL one…

i really hope the amount of pre-orders for the manga reached the right amount to warrant a season of negima, hopefully following the manga with a higher budget and hopefully adapting the school festival arc… even the kyoto arc works for me too…

No comments on the OP and the strategically placed 8 ball?

No. I wasn’t paying attention to the OP.

… okay now I see it. It’s definitely “strategic”.

I’ve read 13 volumes so far (with 3 awaiting on the shelf) as I collect the UK releases that are slightly behind the US counterparts. I’ve actually already read the whole Mahorafest Arc through scanlations but I still wanna own the manga series. I’ve decided to stop reading until the arc ends in the UK releases.

Anyways, I completely forgot about this OAD and whilst it will give some minor spoilers, I’m ok with it. Looks good and hearing good things about it so here’s hoping to a sub being released soon. The animation does look somewhat like the 2nd series but it also seems different, somewhat more “correct” (plus as said, the eye and hair colours are finally completely right).

I’m glad to hear that we are FINALLY getting a good “Negima!” adaptation. It is about freaking time (and I’d love to get an accurate adaptation of the Mahora Festival as well but we may never see that).

  16. Cho_Hakkai Said,

I also lile to see the Mahora Festival arc being animated. The battle between Chao with the whole students and the teachers is one of the best part of the arc.

I just visit the website. Now the preorder no. is at 82581. Now left only 17419 no of preoder before we get the 3rd animated series.

I hope that the 3rd one will start from ch 1.

  18. Asrialys Said,

    August 13, 2008 @ 4:13 am

@ Cho_Hakkai: lol I hope not. It’s been done already – twice. I would assume that if there were a third series, it’d start where these OVAs (or OADs; whatever) leave off. Why would they make these OVAs and then jump back to the beginning? I don’t see Negima being the next 200+ episode series (31 girl-harem just screams fillers). It’s too late anyway. The manga’s gone too far for fans’ patience to reach the more exciting parts of the story.

T.T, i dont care if the company might go bankrupt, they should animate the entire series… damn, :-(, how many chapters are they going to animate?

  23. Maedhros Said,

    August 14, 2008 @ 1:16 am

    3 OAD’s = 6 chapters.

  24. Berry_doyle Said,

    August 14, 2008 @ 4:48 am

Haven’t watched it yet, (like it would do me any good w/o subtitles, I can’t understand enough Japanese) but I think it would be cool if they started the 3rd anime series shortly after the Kyoto arc, so that way we can get the School Festival arc. That would look so cool animated. A multi-season anime would be cool too, that way we could get Magic world stuff. But what would they do about the stuff covered in these OADs? I mean, they’ve already been animated, and they’re the bridge between the Chao arc and the Magic world arc…

Nobody knows how giddy I was when I first saw the screenshots so imagine how what I would be like after I watch this.

  26. Cho_Hakkai Said,

    August 15, 2008 @ 12:02 am

Actually, I prefer if they remake the Kyoto arc as they had shorten it too much in the first series.

@Asrialys: Why not? It can be like Bleach, Naruto or One Piece where they stay faithful to the manga. I just hope that the 3rd series don’t have fillers.

Great. It has to be ready, right as I’m broke.
Well, off to the black market to sell my kidneys.
I mean, who needs functioning internal organs when you can have the best manga ever faithfully (and accurately) reproduced into an anime?

(What you don’t all know is that I was hyperventilating as I looked at this)

The opening sequence to the OAD the battle with Chao and some of the training scences are there, are these from a previous series (if so which one) or are they just there to help the viewer know where in the story they are?

Great Negima btw lots of fun and really portrays the entire series wuite well for just a few short episodes
