Nogizaka Haruka’s Secret 01

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu

Yes, a pretty entertaining first episode. This is one of the shows I’ve been more interested in this season, mainly because Noto-sama is playing the lead heroine role, and god knows how long it’s been since she has had one (okay, Kanokon does count as one, but she was doing a male character) (oh crap, I forgot about Mnemosyne too, but it’s largely forgettable) . A big plus as well is that she’s playing a much more talkative character than what she usually does.

Anyways, I was pretty worried I wouldn’t like the show, mainly because incongruity of Nogizaka Haruka’s character, whose supposed to be an elegant ojou-sama admired by the whole school but she’s actually quite the airhead and, the selling point of the show, an otaku as well. I was worried that the awkward combination would prove to be rather offputting for me, but thankfully, it seems the production team and Noto-sama have struck quite a fine balance of the various aspects of Haruka’s character, so that no one trait actually overwhelms the other. Granted, the first 10 mins of the show wasn’t really that good, but the second half of it when Haruka asks Yuuto’s help and their subsequent interaction pretty much redeemed it nicely, especially with Haruka’s “you’re a strange guy” banter, which is pretty ironic coming from her. Also, Haruka’s “awawawawa~” nearly knocked me off my cuteness scale.

On other aspects, the show is pretty much your standard rom-com fare, with all the pre-requisite characters in place, such as Yuto’s hot but constantly drunk older sister, the weird friend, a general lack of parents around and even a sekuhara teacher as well, wonderfully played by Miyu Matsuki again (oh god Yoshinoya-sensei is hawt). There’s even gonna be a harem of meido’s from Haruka’s side as well, so there should be no shortage of moé-moé exposure to relish on in this show. The “show-in-a-show” they’re doing for Nogizaka Haruka sounds kinda boring and clichéd though… I wonder why they always use mahou-shoujo shows for those. In the real world… it’s more likely to be something from Shounen Jump.

The OP was pretty much swimsuit pimping, and that white bikini piece that Haruka wears fits her so well, it’s kinda scary. The song sounded quite serious for a show in this genre, but it’s okay I guess. The ED was pretty cute too, with dancing meidos and Haruka, and some weird filler animation. Strangely enough, the chorus of Kana Ueda, Mai Goto, Rina Satou, Kaori Shimizu, Mamiko Noto sounded like Yuka Goto’s voice to me.

With such a hilarious sounding premise, I can’t see this show going wrong. Haruka’s personality combination is something I think that enhances the point of the show and therefore I never saw it as a reason to dislike the show. But I’m glad you enjoyed the show as well.

Chumara: I agree very much. The premise is very fun.

I like the OP. It’s nothing special but it’s cool.

On the show within a show. I might be wrong. But I hear there is more than one show that is expanded upon.

“(oh crap, I forgot about Mnemosyne too, but it’s largely forgettable)”
Yeah. Infact I always forget that Noto plays the main character.

Kuro, mind checking out Futakoi Alternative? It’s a nice anime that deserves more attention

From the first impression, that was the show I was most looking forward to, and based on the reviews, I think I would love this show once I’s watch it.

Quite an interesting premise, and to have Noto as the closet-otaku girl only adds to that. Certainly would consider watching.

BTW, Kuro, I thought your blog host would provide their own image hosting for you, because this is already the second post I’ve seen where the image you posted is gone due to “hotlinking” to other sites. There’s always imageshack, photobucket and Flickr as well.

Kinny Riddle: I am hosting the images on my blog server. Are you accesing my blog directly or through some blog reading software, cuz I know if you are not reading it directly, the anti-hotlinking script kicks in.

Ah, I see the problem. Yeah, it’s working now.

I was recently addicted to Google Reader after discovering the convenience that is RSS. Saves me time from having to click around for my favourites, especially while at work.

This was one of my most anticipated series of the season; it looks like I was right.

Ok, I’ve seen this episode three times so far (two RAW and one subtitled); and I won’t mind watching it again. I’ve to agree with all of you about Noto-sama’s role here, her vast experience is well executed as the Ojou-sama-everybody-loves but nobody knows she’s an Akiba-ke (first time I hear this term). I really hate those rats how look down on people just because of their hobbies (or anything else); each of us is free to enjoy anything what we found interesting. Luckily for me, I’ve very supportive parents and friends, so let’s keep enjoying it until the end.

My favorite line of this episode has to be “I gave up on them” (Yuute referring to women). I sympathize with him; he’s merely a slave to his sister and school teacher.

Luckily for Haruka, she now has a good partner in crime to keep enjoying her little secret. There’s still hope for them.

You know, in terms of show-in-the-show, it’s hard to top “Sensei & Ninomiya-ken” now :/
