“Fastest Delivery”

Macross Frontier

“Kyun~ kyun~, kyun~ kyun~, watashi no kare wa… PIROTTO!!”

Aw crap. Sorry, but I kinda laughed when Ranka burst in singing “Seikan Hikou”.

Anyways, from last episode, Alto and Sheryl arrive at Gallia 4, but Sheryl collapses immediately, sparking a rebellion by the land troops, who demand ships and weaponry in exchange for the hostages. News arrives at Frontier, and the S.M.S. can’t get there on time due to the various fold faults surrounding Gallia 4.

Luca pulls some strings for his beloved Alto-senpai, and manages to procure a fold booster that isn’t affected by the faults, a prototype being developed by his family’s L.A.I company. The fold booster enables Mikhail and Ranka to arrive on Gallia 4, in the middle of an altercation, so Ranka immediately starts singing, with Mikhail’s Valkyrie now equipped with speakers (oh god, the Macross 7 flashbacks….). Ranka’s impromptu performance manages to quell the rebellion and Alto quickly disposes of the leader who tries to kill her.

Eventually, control of the base is retaken, and Mikhail charges Alto to bring Ranka back home for her live concert the very next day, using the prototype fold booster left in orbit around the planet. Unfortunately, Ranka’s singing somehow stirs an ominous presence on the planet which disables Alto’s Valkyrie. They crashland in the jungle, and to their surprise, finds the remnants of the original Macross on the planet.

Wow, let’s see… Ranka’s impromptu concert made me laugh out loud rather than impressed, especially when she appeared and sung, of all things, “Seikan Hikou”. It came complete with the “blink-star” effects too! Dear god, I had visions of Macross 7, especially with the bling bling speakers installed on Mikhail’s unit.

I’m really surprised that they decided to that. I think in the world of Macross now, the “Minmay Defense” is actually a real entry in the textbook for dealing with Zentran uprisings. Hell, I’m surprised it still works despite half-a-century of living together with humans. A few of the poor Zentrans actually nosebled on seeing Ranka’s performance. Deculture!!!

Anyways, this was primarily a Ranka episode, so poor Sheryl got lesser screentime. She really pushed herself hard over the past few days it seems. It looks like they’ll be developing the “emo” side of her more now, as her professional pride self isn’t gonna live this down well, especially with Ranka stealing the limelight from her by quelling the base rebellion. This is seriously gonna make or break this series for me, and I hope they don’t destroy her character.

Most interestingly though, is the surprise discovery of the original SDF Macross on the planet of Gallia 4. Last time we saw it, it was still entrenched on Earth in Macross city, so it makes absolutely no sense it should be on some backwater planet. Kawamori better not use the “Planet of the Apes” twist/escape here…

Hehehe…and you spread lies that due to EURO this episode will be cancelled while we were watching it on Keyhole. XD

And a pity of you and your anti-macross 7 sentiments cause that would mean you didn’t watch “Fleet of the Strongest Women” and how this episode was similar to it.

    lol.

Hey, I got the info somewhere else anyways. Oh well, it’s all good in the end, now that it’s out and all.

And yes, I haven’t watched that episode yet. I don’t know if I should, really. I still am stuck at episode 16 of Macross 7.

First 20 episodes of Macross 7 are more of the same. Planet Dance and so forth.

After episode 20, it gets quite a bit better. By episode 28, Basara’s powerlevel is over 16,000. By the Dynamite OVAs, he sings about, to, and with Space Whales.

As for this Episode, it was great fun while being quite interesting seeing some Kawamori Creature of Doom (Varja? Birdman itself?) presumably caused the Macross and Alto’s VF to crash land. Plus the animation was actually pretty good here.

Like i said, watch the OVAs if you can’t stand the series. The episode i recommended u was from the Encore OVA. (more like un-released TV series episodes….i guess 3 fillers was too much already? )

Oh ye of little faith, Sheryl will come out of this fine. She is Sheryl after all…Suffice to say the true test of her character starts now, I doubt Alto-hime will soon for get about her. It’s not clear sailing for Ranka yet the ominous portents of her potential fate have already been seen.

I suspect that Alto-hime got busted since Grace sold him out to Mr. Seven Color Carrots, or at least that was heavily implied.

The lost SDF-2? Though it does look like a mix of the original crashed SDF-1 and the Macross Plus SDF-1. Since the humans altered the design…a lot, it can’t be a Supervision Army ship.

Has Sheryl ever been not emo?

    @Endz
Ranka is pure love, that’s why! :) Besides, she’s 16.

This is what happens when you have a lot of men left alone at a base. Especially men addicted to deculture. They probably haven’t seen a woman in years and haven’t heard anything other than Minmay recording in a decade or five.

    She’s new, she’s Minmay-like, and she’s there.

They’d have done the same for Sheryl I think. Though I think Sheryl would have added the second part of the Minmay Defense to the equation with Alto. The Misa tactic. Kissing on stage.

For those who are shipping, I offer this thought: isn’t it more exciting when there’s a close race involved, rather than a blow-out whose ending was predictable from the very first second? Besides, this way we get to see her both at her best and her worst… which in the end should offer either some more character development, or at least some drama of the non-contrived sort.

I do wonder how she’ll take the news of the crash though…

That can’t be Macross. The original Macross is part of UN Spacy headquarters on Earth. It has to be another Macross type Supervision Army Destroyer ship.

lol the ‘deculture’ effect is lolz! ahaha

i remember seeing it a few times on zentrans but this one was rly good hehehe
even beats the one from the meltrans in the macross 7 ova hehe
too bad there`s no meltran to be decultured in macross f hahah that`d be fun to watch

btw, seikan hikou is kinda addictive. and the dance moves are from here

too bad there`s no video of megumi nakajima dancing that hahaha

You damn dirty apes! It was Earth all along!

Considering the introduction of Fold faults and their effect on space-time, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gallia IV turned out to be Earth after all. They introduced song energy in Macross 7 and Birdman in Macross Zero; nothing is too farfetched for this series.

It definitely looks like the Macross. The arms are ARMD carriers, and if you compare it to other images of Macross, it looks alike. If it weren’t for the fact that Macross 2 became Megaroad 1 and lost its transformation ability, I’d say this was Megaroad 1. Though, look at the shoulder prongs; they’re thinner than the ones on the Macross back on Earth, which are more Zentran like. And its head is larger than that of the original Macross.

Maybe it’s something dragged in from an alternate universe where the war didn’t end as well for humans? (Like Robotech? :))

  15. Haesslich Said,

    June 29, 2008 @ 11:03 pm

um… Megaroad 1 was 5200m long versus a Macross’ 1200m long and is not transformable. Thus, that’s not Megaroad 1.
