Code Geass R2 09

Code Geass R2

The Black Knights take asylum in China, but then shit hits the fan when Tianzi is to be given away to Brittania as the bride of First Prince, Odysseus, as part of a political agreement between the two countries. Looks like Schneizel isn’t really a lolicon, even though he’s the one who arranged it.

Of course, this incenses Lelouch, so he gatecrashes the pre-wedding party and challenges Schneizel to a game of chess, but gets interrupted by “Atomic” Nina. The wedding proceeds next day, but this time, Xing-ke is the gatecrasher, trying to fulfill his promise with Tianzi from 6 years ago. Of course, ol’ Lelouch the lolicon takes the chance and kidnaps Tianzi in the chaos. Meanwhile, Orange-kun is back, and he’s with V.V., protecting another ruins in the Chinese Federation.

After a two-week hiatus, Zero is finally back, and the show is now slowly taking a more international stage. I’m starting to like Tianzi a bit, since from the flashback, it shows she does have a good heart in her, just that she’s being manipulated by those ball-less(figuratively and literally) officials around her. I “awww~~~”‘ed when she started waving her pinky in the air when Xing-ke gatecrashed her wedding as a sign of their promise from 6 years ago.

As for Zero, why does he always love to do all those flashy things, like challenging Schneizel to a chess battle, but not taking the final move when he’s given the chance. That fella’s stupid pride is really painful to see at times. Thankfully, he got bailed out in the end by Nina, who’s still a little bonked in the head it seems.

Oh right, Cecile seems to be also given the “fanservice” provider role. We got to see her in qipao this episode, and I lol’ed when she ate the decorative carrot sculptures XD. And speaking of which, they seem to be turning up the romantic tension between Lelouch and Kallen. They almost kissed each other again this week.

Code Geass R2

(O_O)… will they finally kiss?

Code Geass R2

Ah, but C.C manages to stop them in time. Looks like she ain’t giving him up to Kallen so soon.

Code Geass R2

Mmm~ Cecile again.

Code Geass R2

Gotta love Kaguya. She’s so good at defusing all this tensions

Code Geass R2

I’m taking her as replacement for Nunnally *evil laughs*

Code Geass R2

Oh dear, guess who’s back again.

Before anyone says it, yes the chess move Schneizel made was illegal, yes it was on purpose as a way for Schneizel to gain a psychological upper hand on Lelouch to show that he’s not ready to seize victory when it’s handed to him and thus not a match for him and Charles yet as he’s still trying to play the heroic idealest.

    *takes a deep breath*

    Wait, wait, romantic tension??
Oh you meant that (purely fanservice) scene.

  3. Keiya Said,

Excellent observation, Kaioshin-sama. I was wondering too why he’d do something that was WAY against the rules of international professional chess.

IMO, plot-wise, it’s a good episode, but it’s mired in a little too much stupid. I like a lot of the scenes in the episode, but they’re mixed with a lot of dumb scenes, such as the Nina x Milly scene, or what Tianzi was doing after doing that pinky wave (wiggling about in place, an action only seen by characters in comedy anime who are all lovey-dovey). Shouldn’t she be running to him or something?

And oh, about Nina? Please, someone end her misery and kill her in a horror movie-style? She’s becoming as annoying as Shinn Asuka.

By the way, didn’t Jack Sparrow always a joke about eunuchs?

Anyway, I hope it’s not another Gundam Seed Destiny, where they made stuff up as they went. I’d be really NINA INSANE if that happens. LOL.

am i the only one freaked out about what lulu did at the end
hes got a gun to a little girls head
when did he turn in to the kind of person who does something like that
if this happend at the end of season 1 i could understand it but the whole point of the last few eps was that he changed for the better
and now he does something like this

  5. Zanshun Said,

In no way was that romantic development, an almost accidental kiss. As shown by the third picture it was just an excuse to shown underside boob. Can’t wait to hear all the Suzaku haters who cried for days screaming foul when he used Nunally, try to defend Lelouch betraying Xing-Ke, taking Tianzi hostage and POINTING A GUN at her head. Then inexplicably laughing maniacally.

Btw is orange wearing a “Rounds” uniform, or is that just standard noble/lord’s uniform that Rounds wear.

  6. freaky Said,

Well we see a “development” in Lelouch, now he is child killer. hmm….. And isn’t orange becoming a overused plot, I mean as if you can come back to like that many times, I mean you could probably cut him up with a chainsaw and he would appear either in the next episode or later in the series…… Sigh…….. apart from that I liked the episode.

Why C.C. didn’t popped up on the possible kissing scene during episode 7 of Lelouch and Kallen. She spoiled the moment of truth sigh and asking for a sauce for her Pizza Hut.

Maybe the CHESS “move” scene was a tribute to Bobby Fischer who died last January 2008. Although CHESS was already during episode one of season 1.

Bobby Fischer have a Japanese wife with his kids. He is also have a Philippine wife with her daughter.

He’s one the legendary CHESS players ever.

Well, the obvious difference is- Lelouch and Xingke aren’t (old) friends, heck they’re already openly using each other in the beginning.

Erm, no~ The last few episode is about Lelouch finding a new reason to carry on, as well as coming up with a new plan.

Zero won’t be Zero without the laugh. He did that last season when he found out that Suzaku was the pilot of Lancelot remember? Nothing ‘evil’ happened… I learnt not to take it too serious.

You can’t be a child killer if you haven’t kill a child =_= Nice try though.

  12. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

A lot of people seem to be making a big fuss on the chess move. I really don’t see why. The symbolism is pretty easy to catch, but then I used to play a lot of chess myself, so I understood it pretty quickly. Just too bad Lelouch decided to cower out.

Anyways, I think it was a brilliant move by Schneizel to deal some psychological damage to Lelouch, and does show to what degree that Lelouch would do to keep his pride rather than be seen “submitting” to others. It’s not bad, per se, but he doesn’t have the GAR-ness required to keep his pride to be able to be seen “not submitting” to others, yet still be able to win in the end.

And as for the ideas that it’s a tribute to Bobby Fischer… wow that’s really out of tangent. I don’t think Sunrise was thinking of him when they wrote that game in.

For those who are denying the “romantic tension” of the Kallen-Lelouch scene, they are giving us fanservice in the form of that. Clearly, Kallen has feelings for Lelouch, beyond his identity as Zero. In fact, knowing his true identity has probably given those feelings a root in the form of her being able to be in privy with Zero’s true identity, and even more so when it’s been observed that Lelouch takes off the Tulip when she is present with him alone.

Despite the denials, you’ve gotta admit there is some form of tension between them, even more so after the earlier scene in episode 7, and another one now in 9. Oh well, not like it’s gonna go anywhere further, I hope.

@Keiya: You forget Tianzi is young and has been living a sheltered life. Plus, she was in the presence of a lot of Britannian officials and also her husband-to-be, so any action that overtly shows her intention of not wanting to be married would cause a political fallout between the Chinese and the Brittanians. In that case, her actions were pretty much quite understandable, but although I would admit it that it was more of her being young, first and foremost.

As for accusations being pointed to Lelouch that he is a “child-killer”… ARE YOU ALL BLIND? He has shot anyone yet, for god’s sake. Sure, Tianzi’s not gonna like him much after that, but hey, he’s kidnapping her. Kidnapping != killer, and most especially not yet in Lelouch’s case.

Besides, Lelouch’s a lolicon himself. How can he bear to kill one?!

And as for Orange-kun’s revival… c’mon, who wasn’t expecting it? He appears in the opening! Plus, he’s such a marketable character now, with that “Orange-kun” moniker of his, how can Sunrise not resist bringing him back. They’ve done much worse before, ex. Gundam SEED Destiny.

    you know
i may be going a little soft but i actually felt a little bad for nina
she may be a racist psycho bitch but you can almost feel how much she is hurting
coming face to face with the man who killed euphie in a room full of people who by all rights should want him dead
watching her date of the evening sitting down for a game of chess with him and having euphies own knight protecting her killer for reasons even he cant understand
add to that how much euphie clearly ment to her and its not hard to see why she broke down in tears

Kurogane you crack me up! First ‘Atomic’ Nina, and the part about replacing Nunnaly with Tian Xi. The best part is the evil laugh that fits perfectly and actually comes at the end of the episode.

  15. Haesslich Said,

    June 10, 2008 @ 8:04 am

I thought that the rules violation was to show that Schnitzei wasn’t really bound by the rules, the way the others Lelouch fought were, which makes him more dangerous as he’s quite willing to break ‘the rules’ that others embrace, subconsciously or consciously, in order to win… even if, on the surface, he looks to be a loser. He’s potentially someone that Lulu can’t beat, since the most well-laid plans depend on being able to predict the general path an opponent will follow.. and Schneitzei shows he’s willing to veer in unexpected directions.

  16. Kaioshin Sama Said,

    June 10, 2008 @ 8:15 am

    @Haesslich: That’s also a reasonable interpretation I think.

I think this episode only serves to confirm Lloyd’s status as a certified pimp.

    First Cecile. Then Milly.

I’m starting to think Code Geass is turning into a harem show with Lloyd slowly replacing Lelouch at the center. Lloyd keeps his pimphand strong.

Sidenote: Why hasn’t Rivalz been written off yet? Has he done anything since season one? I’ve never seen a more useless character. At least Rolo has a Geass.

    @Kurogane Shiroikaze

~”Just too bad Lelouch decided to cower out. “~

I don’t know ^^; I think the only move he could have chosen was to move back, so really it wasn’t his choice (Given the situation).

~”Clearly, Kallen has feelings for Lelouch, beyond his identity as Zero.”~

Oh I agree, but I’m almost certain it’s also one-sided…

~”Besides, Lelouch’s a lolicon himself. How can he bear to kill one?!”~

He’s not going to kill her… He’s going to marry her… No joke, he seems dead serious about it. Oh well, not the first time his VA broke up a wedding (Refer to Rental Magica)

  19. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    June 10, 2008 @ 10:27 am

Yes, Nina is a pretty tragic character, but she doesn’t really invite sympathy herself, not at the least from me. I blame her horrid hair.

@Haesslich: Yes, that’s another valid interpretation too. To add to it as well, while Lelouch seemingly looks like a guy who doesn’t follow the rules as well, but he’s the one who depends on it the most, as he constantly bends the rules to his own benefit. So anyone who breaks it blatantly, he will have difficulty dealing with. There’s tons of examples already laid out in the series, such right in the beginning when Brittania “broke the rules” by lauching Suzaku during the Shinjuku attack.

Zero/Lelouch is definitely a genius, but he definitely has a equally fatal flaw by not being able to be flexible and think totally outside the box.

“Oh I agree, but I’m almost certain it’s also one-sided…”

Who said it was gonna be reciprocated? Kallen has boobs, see…

Susaku was definately the top person pissing me off in the show, but when they showed nina i realized she definately takes the #1 spot. Please just die thank you.

And Halcyon kudos to the lloyd being a pimp thing, cuz he totally is a pimp. You forgot his past with L(R)aksharta, im sure he hit that.

Regarding Orange-Kun im actually glad he made a reappearence, because when he did at end of season 1 it just seemed too random and pointless, because they oviously went through the trouble of making him beastmode but the battle ended so soon with no real plot development in that area it all just seemed pointless.

Also it was ovious why Zero took Tianzi as a hostage (they kinda made it clear) so he can now control the chinese govnt. Though i have to admit my jaw dropped when he took her hostage. Xingke wouldve been an awesome ally, too bad theyre both after the same thing and neither of them know (zeros goals are to make everyone equal in the world, xingke wants to defend the poor).

I doubt zero would do anything crazy to her, cuz him and nunally(still is) were political tools too when they were kids, im sure he’s aware of that.

Gotta love the evil side to lulu, he never seizes to amaze me! Just wish he would kill suzaku and call it a day.

I can’t help thinking that the chess move might be an ill omen for Lulu. Seeing how he didn’t take the chance to take out the Emp… uh King (!!!) although it was being handed to him on a plate, I’m tempted to conjecture that his pride and resentment at being looked down on by his brother might be the tragic flaw that will lead to his downfall. Having said that, I’m probably reading too much into it.

Okay, Nina is insane, she was insane in the first season, she’s off her rocker in this season. Who the hell allows a psychopath like that to get hold of a knife? Suzaku is such an ass, but Nina is understandably insane from the get go, with all her talk about 11’s and Britannian blood lines and what not.

OOOO Zero you fiend ~.^ Why can’t you kidnap me? (yes I am a fangirl of Zero) He’s got 3 girls going for him, wonder who he’s gonna choose? Wait a minute . . . isn’t she a little young to be married in the first place?

Kaguya is sooooo awesome it’s not even funny. In the first season I thought she was nuts – declaring that she would be Zero’s wife and all, but in this season I have to admit she shines so much better then before. And what’s this about her being Suzaku’s cousin?
Oh, so Suzaku didn’t just betray Japan, he betrayed family? Oh, Suzaku you just keep taking a step lower don’t you?
