“First Attack”

Macross Frontier

Missile spam time.

Sigh, looks like the loss of 92JeyRfcya, YS2YSUOe1cLtf, and YnXmHqtxqS are really gonna hit us raw watchers hard. T.T This week’s raw looked more like a cam rip than a real encode orz.

Nevertheless still an awesome episode of Frontier. Sheryl certainly gained a lot more brownie points for me this episode.

Episode starts off with Sheryl singing Iteza Gogo Kyuji Don’t be Late while Skull Squadron engages the Vajra, Luca doing collecting data on the Vajra. Koenig Monster’s appearance was the first highlight of the battle. Kanaria *thumbs up*. The action dies down a bit as Sheryl ends her song and goes backstage, with Grace providing her the updates on the Galaxy battle, and Sheryl feels reassured on seeing Alto still alive (awwww~).

However, the tides of battle turn fast as the Vajra main battleship folds out directly from a “fold bump”. Luca blindly approaches it to collect data, and discovers that it’s using a “fold reactor”. Caught unawares, Luca is captured by one of the Vajra and gets “eaten” by it.

While this is happening, Sheryl is approaching the end of her concert and as she says her parting words… she starts to cry, until Ranka shouts out to her which regains her spirit. Sheryl announces that she is dedicating the last song to the people fighting faraway, and starts singing another of her songs, while Ranka sings it together with her.

Back to the battle, Alto rushes in to save Luca and manages to break in to the ship. On the outside, Captain Jeffery decides to move the battle to close-range and announces “TRANSFORMATION!” (WOOT!). The rest of the S.M.S retreat back and regroup at Macross Quarter. Alto manages to locate Luca but he gets attacked by two Vajra. Somehow, Sheryl’s earring manages to transmit her song to Alto, which also wakes up a mysterious red Valkyrie unit. Alto kills off the two Vajra at the cost of his own Valk, and he jumps over to Luca’s captured unit and tries to free it using his suit’s systems, finally shooting away the tentacles holding it.

The red Valk destroys the gun, but right in the nick of time, Macross Quarter rushes in and rescues them both. Bobby then shoots the Macross Cannon right in to the battleship’s mouth and the battle is won. The red Valk folds away as the pilot takes out a harmonica and plays the tune of “Aimo”.

Well, a lot sure happened this episode. The battlescenes were pretty awesome. I loved the Koenig Monster’s appearance, and wow, those are really fucking cool. Variable frame for the win!

Then Bobby sure stole a fair share of airtime, with him nicely teasing up Catherine and also piloting the Macross Quarter. God I lol’ed when they inserted the Aquarion-style attack name screen as he shot the Macross Cannon at the Vajra battleship. As one 4channer puts it, “man, he turned from gay to GAR.”… totally seconded here.

Poor Catherine got pretty much abused this week too, what with the S.M.S crew “not following proper orders”, getting assraped by the chairs (totally appeared out of nowhere there!) and finally getting motion sickness after the battle ended. Wonder though… if like Jeffrey puts it, it’s something more… “congratulatory”, kekekekeke.

Sheryl this week got really highlighted. Her concert last week continued on to this week and she provided most of the background music during the fight (although this had the effect of making me miss a lot of whatever the S.M.S people were trying to say). She even presented a new song this week, instead of just sticking back to the ones already out, although we still haven’t heard a proper version of “What ’bout my star?” by her. Her costume at the last song was pretty awesome too,a elegant red gown. But the part where she “telepathically” communicates with Ranka was rather WTF, what with the sudden cut out to the galaxy background. The art still seems pretty off during the concert portions though, I blame all the outsourcing they’re doing. I also now know why people clamor for backstage passes…

But shit, now I can’t wait for “High School Queen” next week. Sheryl comes visiting Alto at school again… and god knows awesome things happen every time she does that, judging from the current track record. Boo yeah!

Oh btw, I sure hope Alto didn’t lose Sheryl’s earring when he lost his VF-25. Someone’s not going to be happy about it if he did…

Well, Ranka and Sheryl have established a closer connection, which should make things more interesting… and this could be a boost to Ranka’s career, given she’s been on-stage with Sheryl now. Probably pissed off some fans who are envious, but… well, they sing well together.

Yes, yes. Ep 7 is here. I like this one. Too bad Luca is retired early.

Yeah Alto-hime was right Sheryl IS and exhibitionist…Though judging by the preview the next ep might have been farmed out… I just hope those bastards get better as time goes on. I am sure Alto-hime will get off for losing his VF-25, either that or the dock his pay or hit him up for ome other kind of compensation.

Freaking Bobby, looks like the man is is worth a lot in a scrap after all. Mmmmm…mecha and music.I just hope the next outing of SherylxRankaxAlto-hime will look decent.

afaik, Perfect Dark is (way) more secure than Share – maybe that’s where the ‘cool’ cappers will/should/already does hang out now? ;o At least, if I were a capper, I would choose PD over an outdated, not maintained, based on a compromised protocol, but still widely used, software.. (yes, Share, I’m looking at you.. in my systray..).

@Haesslich: She wasn’t onstage together with Sheryl. She was just singing along from the audience stand.

@igro: Too bad the internet here is too crap to use PD. My max upload speed is just about 35% of what the minimum PD asks.

Don´t forget the “Planet Dance” attack formation… I jumped when I heard that one.

Missile barrage is pure win. This ep wasn´t epic or anything, but still in the end it was quite good.

“My max upload speed is just about 35% of what the minimum PD asks.”

PD works fine here @ 512 kbps upload rate, which is the minimum upload rate for Share. A quick setup and searching for マクロスフロンティア gives, for example the transport stream (2,1GB) for ep 7, so maybe it’s worth giving it a try ;3 The review system is also a nice feature. Just don’t forget to fill up the unity file first with 2GB worth of data – just add a commonly available file to the upload and after hashing, you’ll have more then enough and will be able to download.

BTW, great blog, love your recommendations – the newest one being Kamen no Maid Guy, which I still haven’t checked out, but the premise looks good :D

    A few corrections/comments…..

1.) The red valkyrie was not asleep inside of the Vajra capital ship. We actually briefly saw the red valkyrie maneuver to the ship from the outside. (or at least the light trail it left in its wake). Additonally, we saw that when Alto had entered the Vajra capital ship, there were some dead Vajra inside already. The Vajra and the wall behind them were riddled with bullet holes. It was this mysterious red valkyrie that had gone in and killed some Vajra before Alto’s arrival.

2.) The glow we see coming from under Ranka’s dress is probably an implant. While implants are illegal on the Macross Frontier fleet, they are not illegal everywhere. (such as the Macross Galaxy fleet). And it is not illegal to have an implant on Frontier (Sheryl’s aid/manager has one)… it is just illegal on Frontier to have an implant implanted. We know already that Ranka is not a Frontier-fleet native, so it is likely she has implants (including her hair, for example).

My theory: The Vajra might be reacting to certain implants. It could be why the Vajra swarmed the Galaxy fleet, which has a large population of people with implants. (Sheryl is one of the rare few from the Galaxy fleet without implants).

I am guessing that these implants react oddly to singing (or perhaps “song energy”, as described in the “Macross 7” series) that the Vajra are sensitive to. In virtually every case where the Vajra show up, it is around Ranka after after she has sung.

I suspect that’s not an implant and probably her cell phone – since if this was the case, then the Vajra should be targeting GRACE of all people, rather than Ranka or Sheryl (neither of which are known to have implants). Sound energy may be important in triggering things, but I think the implants are a red herring.

Okay, after Catherine got motion sickness, I completely spaced out when Bobby said the whole ‘congratulations’ thing. I the know the answer is obvious, but for some reason I just can’t figure it out.

To expand what nakoruru said, they were probably after the Super Dimensional Lens/Crystals also shown as purple stones. The SD Crystals allow for fold communications and fold travel without worry of Fold Interference. That’s why they tried to capture Luca which had a crystal on his F.S.S.A for controlling the Ghosts.
