The Unboxing of Evangelion 1.01 LE DVD

Finally got my hands on my order of Evangelion 1.01. is impressive. Ordered placed on Saturday, processed on Sunday, delivered on Monday morning, arrived at Tuesday evening. That’s what you call service, eh. But I must say, for the 1,700 yen I paid for the shipping, they could’ve used a much more better packaging. I was surprised at looking at thin boxpack(or whatever it’s called) used for the DVD. I was expecting a box, heh.

Evangelion 1.01

Literally had to rip open the top of the packing to reveal my prize, the Evangelion 1.01 LE box. The design is definitely impressively red and elegant. Really nice touch on the “Evangelion 1.01 : You are (not) alone” logo on the front.

Evangelion 1.01

Carefully using a blade to cut open the plastic wrapping at the side to unveil out the real thing. The inside case is fully black, with the same “Eva 1.01” logo impressed on it. The quality of the material used for both the red and black boxes are really solid, dispelling any fears of damage to the innards.

Evangelion 1.01

Opening up the black case, which unfolds to three portions, two containing disc 1 and disc 2, and one more holding the additional material and booklet. The insides are all fully red, as you can see. The designers surely did an awesome job.

Evangelion 1.01

A closer look at both discs. Both are pure red with the labels faintly etched on them, but still pretty visible. My camera can’t capture the details though, :(.

Evangelion 1.01

The extra materials. From left to right; the filmstrip holder, two advertisement pamphlets and the movie booklet. The red advert pamphlet contains mostly Gainax Evangelion merchandise promotions. Oh Gainax, you milkers.

Evangelion 1.01

The white one, on the other hand, advertises Starchild products… I lol’ed, then orz’ed at seeing the live action Negima class roster in it.

Evangelion 1.01

The filmstrip that I managed to get. It’s Misato when she first brings Shinji back home. Sigh, why Misato. Well, it seems like it can sell rather high on the market, so I’m happy with it. Current highest price of the filmstrips being auctioned off is the one of Rei smiling, at the end of Operation Yashima, at the tune of 61k yen. I sure hope I get a filmstrip with Asuka in it for the next installment. I’m so gonna be pissed if I get Misato again, XD.

Evangelion 1.01

And that completes my unboxing of the Evangelion 1.01 LE. It’s my first (and hopefully, only) purchase of the year, and the second limited edition DVD (first being the Byousoku 5cm LE) that I can proudly call my own :)).

Now I’m hoping that Evangelion 2.0 will air this year as planned, can’t wait to see Asuka again :).

outside packaged being crap is fine as long as the contents make it in one piece =)
no signs of dents on the edges?

with me… it doesnt rly matter if its some minor scratch, since i`m bound to doing some damage afterwards =(
*last week i almost ripped out the cover from an expensive layout book i was carrying around XD

    ah, btw. think positive =)
toji instead of misato`s filmstrip heh

Hey, I never know you could order via I always thought they never do overseas orders.

If that’s the case, then I need not obtain visual novels via Himeya and their sometimes exorbitant prices, since they got almost no competition.

Oh yeah, cool DVDs BTW, I think I’ll get a copy myself. Though as a “boxset collector”, I think I’ll wait till all 4 movies are out before I get them all in 1 go. (This explains why I’ve yet to own a single Star Wars DVD, hurry the f*** up already, I want all 6 episodes in one boxset, Mr Lucas! LOL)

@berz: Nah, no dents at all. The speed of which the package was delivered probably helped to prevent it from any major knocking about. 1700 yen for shipping is expensive, but it’s sure worth it when it’s this fast I guess. And yeah…. imagine getting those…. I would go make myself taller, probably.

@Kinny Riddle: has always did International shipping. But their shipping rates are a bit on the high side, although usually offset by the way lower prices they offer.

The Eva 1.01 LE was supposed to be sold at 5k yen or so, but they only sold it for 4.4k, and including the shipping, it was only around 5.8k. Very, very good value. Compared to Cdjapan…. ugh, nearly 7k with shipping.

As for going for the boxset, I am very sure they’ll be releasing one when the whole thing ends. Still, it’s good to have the first edition releases. I do hope that they’ll maybe release the last 2 movies DVD’s together with a nice box that holds all 4 DVD’s. That would make it pretty worthwhile :)).

    @Kinny Riddle:

Unfortunately, it seems doesn’t (usually) ship visual novels internationally (I’m from France). See for instance:
    – Fate/Zero Vol.1
    – Clannad Full Voice

    This sucks :(.

Hey now, Misato isn’t bad at all:
I’d trade you, but I got a nice shot of Gendo going up the little one person elevator thing so I’m happy.

Especially considering the only other cooler characters were Rei and Gendo, but neither really showed up very often in comparison.

I wish you luck on getting Asuka though in the next movie(s), we’ll both need it… :D

Yep, definitely. Gendo’s a good take too, if only for his sheer bastard-ness. XD

[…] Gainax for doing that stunt. Film strips where Rei appears or any other important characters like Misato has a great value on auctions sites and can have US$1000.00 price tags….Again, shame on […]

I also received my EVA DVD BOX today. The film strip I got is the EVA01 in its hangar. I was a little bit dissapointed at first, but guess I didnt got a worst scene, like toilets, or buildings.

    Congrats for Misato.

Im sorry but I got to ask this.

Does the dvd contain English subtitles?

Or is it just flat out Japanese?

I need to know before I order something I wont be able to understand.

@Grey-Fox: No it doesn’t have english subtitles. It’s an R2 Japanese DVD.
