I think it goes, timeline wise, Macross Zero -> Macross -> Macross Plus -> Macross 7 -> Macross F

Right now all you need to know to follow Macross F is that the Zentradi are giants who did an orbital bombardment of Earth, but the original Macross blew up their Japan-sized command ship leaving the Zentradi and human survivors to pick up the pieces. Deciding that having only one planet would just mean some other aliens could come and wipe out the Earth again, the survivors built giant fleets apparently all named Macross, and the Macross F takes place with one of the fleets. Oh, and the Zentradi can get turned into human sized people, and apparently come from a common ancestor, which is how there are all these Zentradi-human hybrids running around.

Megumi Toyoguchi gets to play two different roles in the same show. Very, very nice… especially when she’s trying to strangle Mikhail there. That expression is priceless.

Still, you have to like how they didn’t follow the cliche route.. and Alto-hime gets to show why he’s ‘hime’. Oh, and he and Ranka get to get closer too.. very nice.

Huh, just watch GITS SAC in sequence, that’s how to start. Macross you can just see anyone, makes no difference.

This episode had dogfights that make Code Geass’ Knightmare battles look like dogshit.

And I think Ranka isn’t a good singer and Miss Macross should not have large tits, they are not aerodynamic.

The Hordesman: It’s part of a greater continuity, I’m afraid — this is an almost direct sequel to Macross 7 (set 14 years earlier), which itself is a sequel to the original Macross. It’s very easy to get into however, though if you never watched the first series you’ll miss a lot of homages (Macross Frontier IS the 25th-anniversary production of the franchise) to it.

I have never seen anything Macross related, due to the same reasons I have never seen anything Ghost in the Shell related- I have no idea where to start. Is this part of a greater continuity, or how does it work? I am interested to get on the bandwagon.
