Kyouran Kazoku Nikki 01

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki

Frenzy? More like pure batshit insanity, o-Kyouka-sama.

I picked this up solely on the strong recommendation from j1mone (one of the bloggers whom I actually check on a daily basis) and also because SS-Eclipse actually subbed it. Honestly, I was kinda surprised and a bit disappointed at them for picking up Geass R2 (considering the ungodly amount of subbers doing it already) but their choice to sub this redeems them back.

Let’s just say this, this show is. Bat. Shit. Insane. And I love it. The jokes are insane, but reference-free, mainly remaining in the context of the show’s already absurd setting, quite a breathe of fresh air, since the recent shows that employ the same batshit-insane style have been mostly quite hard to get (Pani Poni Dash comes to mind).

The awesome manzai couple of Kyouka-sama and Ouka Midarezaki is pretty cool too, and that’s not even counting in the absurdity of having a jellyfish, lion, gay guy and a biological weapon as your adopted children. Yes, this is definitely a batshit insane show that KNOWS it’s meant to be batshit insane, and it loves it.

C’mon, even the producers batshit insane themselves, going as so far to (probably) produce EIGHT DIFFERENT ending sequences for each of the TV stations airing the show. How bloody cool is that?

P.S. Kana Hanazawa’s Yuka is <3~~~~ Oh god, I miss her voice much. And her in a loli role too!

Meeeh. Before these kind of rumors spread more widely: Over a month ago, we contacted gg (who we are really good friends with) if they were going to do Geass R2, and we got told “nah, gg is dead, you should definitely do it. Though we might do a Closed-Caption based speedsub for shits and giggles”. Eclipse would have backed off the show in favor of gg otherwise. And then, while subbing of the first ep was in full swing, we suddenly heard that they were going to do it after all. Mhhhh.

I mean, don’t get this wrong, gg are awesome pals, and they are even providing us with the Transport Stream for Geass. But this snafu was definitely not Eclipse’s fault. Had they been telling us beforehand that gg was going to do it, we’d have organized things for a different show.

I see. I was wondering how come good subber resources were being redundantly wasted (not accounting the groups jumping on the bandwagon just for the limelight).

Maa~~ I kinda half guessed this was the reason. gg was dead all this while, so when they suddenly came back to life on April 1, I suspected they were gonna do Geass R2, and it seems that it happened.

Currently, for shits and giggles, I am downloading both gg and Eclipse versions. I’ve been watching 01 and 02 at least 3 times each, lol. Maybe I should just rip out the scripts from each and combine them together with the same video file, since you guys are sharing raws.

Oh ha, looks like [gg] randomly rez’d themselves, judging by their site.

Anyway, ‘batshit insane’ is music to my ears, I’ll see you later after I download and watch. lawl

What are you talking about? This show is very normal once you’ve popped some LSD before hitting the play button.

Yay! even the producers are as insane as this show! seems like there’s eight main characters and eight stations. . . ahahaha! each main characters got their own ending… if this is true of course. YAY!

“jellyfish, lion, gay guy and a biological weapon as your adopted children.”

This gives off a good message of what the shows about.

I also like that Hyouka (the bio-weapon) has a deadpan child’s voice to support his position as a “child”

I’m pretty much ready for this series. And I like the OP.

    And the best part is….

NOMAD IS BEHIND THIS WTF!?! What happened to Rozen Maiden-esque seriousness guys?

It’s like a Suzumiya Haruhi anime show on steroids.. More random but funny show.. Kyoka owned Hyouka pretty well I would like to say so myself.. ^^

[...] Kyouran Kazoku Nikki. I decided to watch this as soon as it aired. And talk about a comedy with total insanity…..and you think about a ton of other anime I assume? Well I think this show is nice in a it’s use of the “odd people thrown together” concept. I’ll lay out the story simply. Humanity worries about oncoming evil from a ancient being. They put the descendants of the being together as a family to try and avoid the catastrophe by hoping the evil one will not want to do anything after learning about the joy of family. I like the quality of this series (animation, the way things go together), and I look forward to more. Oh yeah and here are some other opinions of mine that I posted on another blog. [...]

A bit more plot-oriented than I was actually expecting… but it seems awesome so far, and I love the opening.
