Hopefully we get some cover art to show what Nega’s ME form looks like in full blown color.

Akamatsu is indeed far too awesome to do something boring like the generic hero of light. It was setting up a long time ago that Negi had some untapped drama-power inside him, especially with the Baron back in book 8 started talking about ‘fighting for vengeance as opposed to justice.

Could see that plot twist coming from a mile away. There was no way Akamatsu would go and pick the cliche “light” option. He’s just too awesome for that. And dark is definitely more fitting for Negi, since he always tries to do everything himself. I hope he doesn’t get beaten back into the “light” side by Asuna; Negi would probably be able to convince her that this wasn’t a bad thing with Chisame by his side.

Side-note: Title of the Chapter 206, the start of this battle, was “We Meet Again, My Beloved.” Reference to Konoka and Setsuna was obvious, but considering recent “jokes,” it could also refer to Evangeline and Negi, yah?

Darkness is just cool. I would have hated it if “light” was his choice.
It’s fun to see “dark”, a very very powerful yet dangerous element, be the choice of the main protagonist. It reminds me of anti-heroes which I love so much.

If you think about it, dark isn’t really the bad side, it’s just often portrayed that way.

I see that everyone immediately started making the Star Wars references…

And i think that a protagonist choosing to go dark is a lot more interesting than the light’s side of the argument which is some thing along the lines of “LOL. I IZ JUSTICE.”

I still think he’ll combine light and dark as a last-ditch effort some time the future. Besides, this is a good chance to bring up drama amongst all the characters. If Negi looses it again and goes Dark at the same time, he’ll be sure to terrify everyone. Then Asuna will jump in, thwap him with her harisen artifact, set him straight, and then h’ll combine the two :P
