Back from GACC 2008. Had a ton of fun, shit, giggles and lulz. I think I’ll let my pictures do most of the talking this time round. For those who would like to skip my long-winded event report, then feel free to download my own collection here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/w397xe . Just please credit them back to me if you decide to use them somehow.
Day 2 started with another opening ceremony as usual, with another opening act by Hentai Sentai, singing a few songs.
Their lead vocalist is cute :3.
Sieg Zeon guy was there as well, again.
After the opening act, there was some free time, so I managed to snap a pic of Habanero-tan, who I must admit, was quite cute too.
Another band went up to perform after that, C’est la Vie, and they did the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei OP, Daybreak’s Bell, and another familiar song that escaped my mind. Crowd just loved them and they actually did 2 more encores, also of songs I don’t recognise. Again, the vocalist was pretty cute.
After them, a stage performance started, which was basically a sketch of Street Fighter characters slugging it out, with Goku thrown in to the fray as well. Pretty entertaining especially, with the Goku going all Super Saiyan and shit. Gotta love that Chun Li though… won by using flying hearts.
Break time again, while the guys set up the stage for the cosplay competition, and I managed to snap a pic of Cikgu in his newest costume, Ra-oh from Hokuto no Ken. That guy never fails to amaze.
The solo cosplay competition started with gusto, with around 20 participants in it.
First up was this guy cosplaying as Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio, pretty entertaining guy really, with the goofiness and all. Didn’t read Bleach past “Inoue-got-kidnapped-oh-noes” so I don’t know how he’s like, but still, pretty funny guy.
Next, ‘deru@Akira-sama again.
Next, fail Kyon. Everyone fucking knows his trademark pose is the /facepalm, but instead he resorted to a crappy fake pop-up emoticon. I did a real facepalm at that.
Hoshakuji Renge was up next. Looks cute, but the character was “off”. Fail also for no “oh ho ho ho ho” laugh.
Lucrecia Crescent up next. Man, I tell you, she’s pretty cute. Sorry for the fail pic, but a pic is better than no pic. God, I wish I’d taken her photo solo when she was around the event. Oh, apparently she’s a couple with the Vincent cosplayer as well.
Rest of the cosplayers don’t need intro/too crappy/no comment and they’re inside the zip I linked earlier, so go look at those :P.
After the cosplay competition, immediately Morita-san arrived on the venue and oh boy, the madness was there. I managed to record the whole interview by the emcees, uploaded on Youtube here:
Memory ran out before I could finish recording the chosen fan-submitted questions. They allotted for 5 but one went MIA, so Morita decided to play a game of jankenpon with the crowd to give out the remaining goodie from him. Unexpectedly, an international student won it! Guess otaku’s are as nekketsu no matter where they hail from. (Pics inside the zip again).
After that, went to queue up for the seiyuu autograph. Met with Jac’kee of CF (the lucky Yuna who was on the video) and totally regretted not having my camera at that time. She ran off after getting the autograph, and I couldn’t see her again after that, lol.
Since I had some free time after getting my t-shirt signed, I managed to snap a photo of this Gankutsuou cosplayer. Really impressive with the dyes but missed having a cloak/cape to complete the effect.
There was also an Alice from Resident Evil cosplayer too. Not bad really.
Sakura and Syaoran in the crowd. Sakura was a bit too tall, sadly.
And… oooh, Otae-san cosplayer around too. Honestly I just loved the kimono. God, I am such a sucker for the kimono-wearers.
Group photo by Morita-san with the cosplayers after he finished, with the Renge giving him a peck on the cheek to his surprise.
Another huge group photo, this time with the main committees in it. I gotta say, Morita-san is really an awesome guy.
Group photo again, with the Bleach cosplayers only this time, and Morita-san did his Bankai! impression before leaving the hall.
Took more pictures of cosplayers after he left while waiting for the cosplay finals. Not a bad job of Cutey Honey.
Cosplay competition finals started, and this year’s final… was the Wheel of Torture. Basically, Wheel of Fortune, with not so lucky stuff on it.
Finalist No.1, Dordonii, became the first victim of the wheel, and spun “Perform with an item of the judge’s choosing.”, to which Hard Gay gladly obliged by lending out his cap. Dordonii performed HARD GAY-style to the tune of…. Shiawase no Iro by Yoko Ishida. Imagine Hard Gay, only 10x slower. I’ll never look at the song the same way ever again.
Finalist No.2, Akira-sama, got it easy and hit “Perform a scene of your character from the anime/manga/title.” and what else, she did a Lucky Channel, GACC version. Pretty hilarious when she turns in to “dark mode”, because she fit the character perfectly.
Finalist No.3, Simon got it hard and hit “Act as the cosplayer before you.” which meant Akira-sama (orz) who gladly lent him/her the board. Too bad, she failed at the acting.
Finalist No.4, Hellboy, spun the same thing again, but a respin saw him doing “Create your own bankai”, which he did so by using the emcees, one as the victime, the other as the bankai. Poor edo.
Oh god, Finalist No.5, Ichigo Kurosaki got forced in to doing “Act as if you’re a maid waitress.”, after the attempted to rig his spin for something easier. He sure got his just desserts. Some obliging cosplayer provided him with the headband and apron.
Needless to say, once he put them on… we were all laughing like crazy already. I mean… bankai Ichigo. In meido-fuku. Imagine that.
Fella fails hard though, he totally forgot to say “okaerinasai goshujin-sama” until the judges reminded him.
Finalist No.6 was another crowd favourite, Commando Chaos, and he got “Act as if your nemesis is here and you’re fighting him.” Kidchan (Judge no.1) heated up the crowd by asking Hard Gay to be his nemesis.
Furthermore, kidchan asked them to dance to Motteke! before leaving. You can see the video here. I think that dance fulfilled some of kidchan’s fantasy or smth, since she was actually laughing the hardest of us all, while watching it.
In the end, Akira-sama won 3rd, Commando Chaos won 2nd prize and “Fan’s favourite” (I’ll be damned if he didn’t actually.) and the winner of the competition went to Dordonii. I wished Commando would win, but Dordonii isn’t a bad choice for winner as well.
The batteries died after that, and I couldn’t take any more pics T_T….
Hentai Sentai performed one last time and everyone jived to the music with Haado Gei, ending the show with Livin’ la vida Loca. The guitarist from the band was truly an awesome performer with his guitar.
GACC has once again, proven to be the best and most entertaining event on the Malaysian otaku event’s calendar yet again, but still not w/o it’s shortcomings. Probably the no.1 complaint is that the event has really outgrown their venue. This year’s event flow was a bit messed up as well, and some events that are unsuitable to clash… clashed, and the emcee could’ve done a better job throughout the event. (Alfred I miss you already! :D)
But overall, it was another awesome edition of GACC and I really have to praise the guys behind the scenes of it all, although some of them could’ve been a bit more respectful. Anyways I will look forward to GACC 2009, and hope that this time, it’ll rock even more.
