Event Report: ACF 2008

ACF 2008

ACF 2008 event area

Another event to add to the burgeoning list of ACG(Anime, Comics and Games) events in Malaysia. ACF wisely (or not so wisely) decided to hold their event the week before GACC 2008. Heck.. didn’t even know about the even if it wasn’t LiLKev from The Figure Mall giving me a heads-up a week ago.

Generally, I feel it’s more of a commercial event, with more sponsor and advertising booths around than actual ACG attractions, one of the rare ones were The Figure Mall people. (bless them for actually taking all the trouble to set up and display their collections)

That said the event wasn’t too bad, and thanks to the entertaining (but hamsap) emcee, I quite enjoyed the show. The cosplay competition didn’t really get much people joining in, only about 7 or so, not to mention that it’s basically the same people from MAGe(an earlier event). It sometimes makes me think that if you organize an ACG event w/o CF (Comic Fiesta) cooperation, it gets way less participation.

Coming back to topic, the emcee brought most of the life to the event, with some enjoyable Q&A sessions… well, actually more like “come to stage and dance/act” things. Towards the end of the event, he even had 3 guys and 2 girls to come up on stage to perform a “chair-dance”, Britney Spears-style. Needless to say, he even participated in it… leading to much guy-on-guy and lulz. Man, that was just unforgettable.

Overall, the event was somewhat enjoyable, just probably suffered from the lack of promotion, exposure and participation. The emcee brightened my day somewhat, and getting to meet The Figure Mall people was a blast too.

Next event: GACC 2008.

ACF 2008

Rows of gashapon machines to rip tempt you off

ACF 2008

Jigoku Shoujo cosplayer. Only one cute enough for me to ask for a pic.

ACF 2008

Playing with props. Tsuruya with a sniper rifle is scary.

ACF 2008

Again… putting a gun in Tsuruya’s hands makes me somewhat scared.

ACF 2008

Meido~ meido~ meido~

ACF 2008

SWAT guy upgraded his arsenal with a chain gun. It even spins.

ACF 2008

Nice sorceress/summoner cosplayer.

ACF 2008

The participants of the cosplay competition.

Oh… no photos of the guy-on-guy “chair dance” because I was laughing too hard to reach for my camera. Plus… I felt it’s better for the people involved to have one less record of their…”exploits”.

Actually, Tsuruya’s gun isn’t a sniper rifle; it’s an M4A1 carbine with Picatinny rails and an underbarrel shotgun in place of what would normally be a tactical forgrip or M203 grenade launcher. Such a combo, while rare, is not unheard of; it wasn’t shown in the movie, but in the book version of Black Hawk Down, it’s mentioned that Paul Howe (referred to in the movie as Jeff Sanderson) used an underbarrel shotgun on his M4A1 carbine…

    …. uh, nevermind. -_-
