Gundam 00 ED2: Friends by Stephanie

Gundam 00

While the show is going down the usual Sunrise trainwreck trail, you gotta admit, the new OP and ED are both awesome.

Been looping Stephanie’s Friends ever since it was out a day or two back. The powerful vocals and meaningful lyrics makes this song rather addictive. Too bad the ED sequence in the show itself is a bit…

I found the ED footage very good actually, the contrast between the peaceful beach scenes and the bloody sea with everyone in pain accompanies the song beautifully.

Please do go on about how this show is going down the ‘trainwreck’ path? Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean there is anything fundamentally wrong with it.

That said, I can sure enough agree that I really enjoy both the new OP and ED. And really, there is nothing wrong with the ED sequence. Now, if we had the Meisters touching eachother in awkward ways, you may have something there, but that’s not the case.

Yeap, for once, the 2 OPs and 2 EDs for Gundam 00 have been excellent, being my favorite DayBreak’s Bell and Friends over the other two songs. I guess we finally got songs much apropiatte for the series; I’m not implaying the songs for Gundam Seed and destiny weren’t good, but some of them weren’t the ones ofr the mod of the series at that moment.

“Find the Way” keeps being my favorite song of ALL the Gundam Seed saga-

Hm I don’t like the footage much either. It shows the opposite of how the meisters are feeling about eachother lol.

Hey, at least 00 satisfies my Gundam love more than Seed ever did.

A long ago you said “Is it me or did Gundam 00 almost turn in to a Super Robot show?”

    And take the “almost” off.

I surely didn´t enjoy the way the portrayed the terrorist situation and its solution (bombing a few buildings just ended it, JUST LIKE reality), but episode 15th was the last one I´ll ever see. What are they made of? Physics obviously do not apply to all mobile suits in the same way, and I hated that they couldn´t even take an arm off a Gundam after so much pounding. And even when after reciving a millon hits (literally, not figuratively) and exausting the pilots they used the worst way of getting them out of trouble: more Gundams!

Gundam 00 is a Super robot show, with not 4 but 7 super robots, and when the quantity of Gundams surpases the quantity of mass produced units, you know where the show is heading. Seed was very good in spite of that, and there the Mobile Suits broke like machines they were, they had potential, but they were not Mazinger 2008.

I´ll surely miss a Gundam show but I´ll suffice with Code Geass. Hope they at Sunrise do not spoil it too.

@Amuro1x: Unfortunately this is a typical view that bloggers in the Animeblogger all share {In fact most of them seem to think, act and write the same as well) because it frees them from having to actually analyze the plot if they just all agree that Sunrise series will trainwreck and then move on. I’m not sure who started the whole meme exactly but it’s spread all across Animeblogger and is now held as fact rather than one persons opinion.

No amount of solid shows like Code Geass, Idolmaster Xenoglossia, Gundam 00, PlanetES, Flag, Keroro Gunsou, A New Translation, Gaogaigar Final, Overman King Gainer, will relieve them of trying to find a way to push this agenda against Sunrise’s efforts. It’s always that same broad “Sunrise Trainwreck” comment too that attributes it to every product they’ve ever done rather than just a more narrow “I don’t like this show I think the plot is going nowhere”.

Sunrise tends to make shows with complex character relationships and plot twists hidden under an exterior of more silly and comedic disposition (because most people aren’t so picky about realism and want to have fun while watching as well as think) meaning you have to look more than skin deep at the unfolding plot to see the merit. Few bloggers it seems are up to that and would rather go for the more overwrought series like Clannad where they literally beat you over the head with the characters personality traits and story arc progression. Not that I think Clannad is terrible, but it’s not exactly what I’d call subtle.

That said I don’t really group Kurogane in among them and have a fair bit of respect for this particular blog since he seems to actually give shows a fair chance and much more decent analysis then most bloggers out there. When I visit here I usually feel like I’ve gotten some insight rather than just words vomited across the page. That he took the time to say something good about the music and by association the series seems to indicate open-mindedness. The real haters would never give the show any credit like he’s done with a few episodes and topics and will just bash away with memes and misrepresentations in an immature grade schooler fashion.

Still this is the first time I’ve seen him use the “Sunrise Trainwreck” line, which I absolutely loathe seeing since it’s completely untrue and I hope it’s not a bad sign that he’s going to become like the others.

Yeah… I was using the “Sunrise trainwreck” meme here more as a joke than a serious statement.

I’m still watching the show, even if some of the plot threads are a bit stretched nowadays. I’m just hoping the show will turn a bit more for the better.

Phew…..I sort of had a feeling you might be poking fun at the meme itself as you don’t seem like the type to assign arbitrary traits to studios works, which is becoming all to common these days. That some people actually do believe it is what scares me these days.

It started more as a joke for Gundam Seed Destiny and Mai Otome and I agree that those series were disasters, but is just being used constantly these days for everything they do. It’s like some bloggers decide beforehand that they have to go with that mentality because it’s a meme and thus never even try to give the series a chance to get off the ground before trying to find every way possible to bash the show. It’s definitely not that interesting versus your articles (and I hope mine too if people read them :( ) when you know exactly what Jason Miao for example is going to say about Gundam 00 each episode since he absolutely insists on taking every opportunity to make Sunrise’s shows out to be plotting disasters. It’s just not funny and rather mean-spirited and unproductive too and has caused me to write off a lot of bloggers as biased and people who see everything in black & white, even if they really honestly do think they are using humour in their writing.

I mean I’m fine with the mentality some have that everything Kyoto Animation does is automatically awesome by default (even if I also think thats pretty black & white), diehard fans will be fans, but when they then turn around and find a studio to portray as automatically producing awful series by default, then they’ve lost perspective and are being completely unreasonable.

Anyway here’s hoping for the best then in Gundam 00’s continuing storyline. I also really like the second ending theme, though not quite so much the second opening (although it’s still more enjoyable then the first opening and ending combined, which just shows how much more I like the second ending then any of the other songs in the series). I don’t know if you’ve seen the music video for the second opening, but it features the Orange Haro that Lockon has as prop. Other than that though it’s pretty typical Japanese MV fare.

Yes, I do agree that quite a lot of bloggers seem to think that everything Sunrise = trainwreck.

While I do agree that sometimes, Sunrise tends to stretch their plots a bit thin, even bordering on ridiculous at certain points, they still manage to make a lot of engaging stuff.

As for the music video, generally I avoid them, because I’m not much for watching them, plus most Japanese PV’s tend to.. er… well, “unique”?

I actually like the writing for 00….but the directing is just as bad as it has been with any other Gundam. The ED is decent, but I’m going omfgwtf at The Brilliant Green doing the OP. I didn’t know until yesterday and now I’m freaking…cause I’ve had all their albums for awhile :3
