Lookback at 2007: My top 15 titles of last year

  1. Seirei no Moribito
  2. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
  3. Lucky Star
  4. Seto no Hanayome
  5. ef -a tale of memories
  6. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
  7. Potemayo
  8. Baccano!
  9. Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!
  10. Minami-ke
  11. Dennou Coil
  12. Hitohira
  13. Nodame Cantabile
  14. sola
  15. Code GEASS: Lelouch of the Rebellion.

This list was seriously delayed because I decided to write a blurb for each title, which got too long after I ran out of suitable adjectives for all of them. Suffice to say, I greatly enjoyed all the titles in the list, each in their own way.

Honestly though, I’m surprised I didn’t see much accolades for Seirei, which clinched top spot for being a solid watch from start till finish. Well, it wasn’t an attention-grabber as much as Gurren Lagaan and Lucky Star I guess.

For the record, I managed to watch 50 titles in 2007, completed 33, didn’t finish 7 of them, and the rest are shows from Fall 2007 that are still running.

Hmm… I’ve only watched Lucky Star, Minami-ke, and Code Geass from your list… I do have Baccano! and ef – a tale of memories ready to watch once I am finished with Shuffle!

I think I’ll get around to watching all of them on your list though… eventually.

Nice list, even if mine is considerably different. Seirei certainly got less attention than it should have. Some of the animation and voice acting was outstanding. I watched it and enjoyed it, although I did think it faded a bit from the strong start.

I just watched an ep of Ichigo Mashimaro yesterday, to see if my strong preference for it over Minami-ke was just rose-colored memory. No, it wasn’t. Sense of humor is the most personal thing, and IchiMash hit my sense of humor dead on.

Watched and enjoyed all but Seto no Hanayome.

out of that list, i’d say baccano is no.1, lol. probably because i really haven’t seen the other anime…

Bamboo Blade is still ongoing, isn’t it?

I most definitely agree with Shadow, Baccano! should be #1 :)

14 wtf… well I guess the first line in your post on Sola 12 really didn’t go THAT far did it?
I’m glad ef made your top 5, was definitely my #1 of the year.
Just finished Gurren Lagann as well, pretty damn entertaining, I can see why it was so very popular with everyone.

  9. Ryan A Said,

I like the list, I think Seto no Hanayome and Hitohira are the only ones I didn’t take time to experience, though I really wanted to marathon SnH before the year end. That’s a good ordering, has a nice feel to it. ^^

    @koro: Lol.

@shadowfang: Baccano! was good, but the year had more than just it :).

@voodoomage: As Trn said, BAMBOO BLADE is still running.

@Chumura: What can I say, the other shows eclipsed it afterwards.

@Toroshi: CLAYMORE anime wasn’t to my taste, added with the overhype I got bored of it. DtB was a wasted concept. Ayakashi Ayashi and Tokyo Majin I didn’t watch.

@Ryan A: Glad you liked it.

seen 14 from that list except SZS because this is one of SHAFT’s works that i don’t have the will power to follow…(ef was nice but it had its “GOD WHY DO I HAVE TO STARE FOR 5 MINS AT A TELEPHONE BOOTH !!!” [but still managed to finish it])

Save for no Hidamari Sketch included here, there’s no problem with this list. :P

  14. Farplaner Said,

    January 17, 2008 @ 12:48 am

I noticed Kanon wasn’t included in 2006’s top ten list and this one… oversight? Same for Death Note too.

I know I’m a fanboy for Higurashi Kai but I enjoyed it very much >_>

Finally, after hearing about Lucky Star is overrated overhyped, blahblah I’ve noticed that it is in the top 2007 anime lists everywhere :D (Personally I enjoyed it very much too)

  15. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    January 17, 2008 @ 3:29 am

@TheBigN: I still need to finish it. Left it at episode 5 I think.

@Farplaner: Kanon was admittedly an oversight, Death Note and HiguKai weren’t. DN I didn’t really watch due to have read the manga, while HiguKai kinda lost it’s tension at the second half.

Haven’t watched Seirei no Moribito or Dennou Coil and only watched the first episode of Baccano but it seems your list is more or less on the spot but dang no Toward the Terra? Imo that was one of the most epic animes of 2007. I’d also include Myself:Yourself in the top 15 for having quite the unexpected twists.

  19. leofish Said,

the presence of baccano, dennou coil, and Manabi is heartening. baccano and dennou coil have been doing decently well in “the lists”, but manabi, which was a fantastic show on many levels, I haven’t seen making many lists.

i like a lot of your picks. i gotta say i didnt like Seirei no Moribito that much tho. the animation quality was great but i didnt care for the story.

my favorite was hitohira, which i got turned on to by your post about it. also like d code geass and minami-ke!
