One-liners regarding the shows of Autumn 07

Shows are lined up according to their premiering sequence. Numbers in caption represent the latest episode I’ve watched.

  • Da Capo II (09) – Got boring after Nanaka’s (TT_TT) episode. Might be forgetting about this show soon.
  • BAMBOO BLADE (09) – Going horribly off-tangent somewhat.
  • Kaiji (08) – Kaiji is such a noob.
  • NIGHT WIZARD (08)I don’t know why I’m still watching. Now I know why I’m still watching.
  • Myself;Yourself (08) – Another show this season that’s going horribly off-tangent.
  • DRAGONAUT (06) – Daisuke Ono is not made to voice lameass characters like Jin.
  • Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun (08) – If you’ve been wasting time on reading my blog, no need for me to add anything else.
  • CLANNAD (08) – Not as emotionally impacting as Kanon 2k6.
  • Shakugan no Shana (08) – Uh, is this season full of anime that are going off-tangent?
  • Shugo Chara (05) – Dropped it when it went down the generic mahou shoujo road.
  • Gundam 00 (08) – Honestly, I don’t know where is this show going, it’s really messed up now.
  • ef ~a tale of memories~ (07) – The second SHAFT show I actually like after Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Thank god they limited their touches to the visual components, not the story ones.
  • Kimikiss (08) – Not too linear, yet not too dramatic; a rightly balanced romance show.
  • Rental Magica (08) – Unintentionally hillarious, especially when Itsucki gives out orders like, “Use Fira at 35.38028° to my right” and they actually execute it. Needs more Addie btw..
  • Prism Ark (08) – I don’t know why I’m still watching.
  • Minami-ke (08) – Slap yourself if you’re not watching this show yet. C’mon!
  • Genshiken 2 (07)Yaoi episode aside, it’s been a pretty good show.

“Yaoi episode aside, it’s been a pretty good show.”

This should read, “Even ignoring the pure awesomeness of the yaoi episode, this has been a pretty good show.”

Moyashimon is a good show, too bad subs dont come too often

Ah well, since it seems Shugo Chara may span 52 episodes, they do seem to cram some fillers in every now and then. But a few new baddies have showed up and it’ll get a bit more interesting when they eventually reach the events that occur at the end of volume 2 of the manga. Whenever that is…

But I wouldn’t label it a generic mahou shoujo show yet…

Agreed all around. Also needs moar Moyashimon.

“CLANNAD (08) – Not as emotionally impacting as Kanon 2k6.”

I think the same. But it’s not bad. Perhaps, Clannad is more balanced. What I fell lacking in the last two or three episodes is the parallel world: the lonely girl, did you remember her?

Otherwise, that’s a very well done show. The art displayed by Kyoan is always refreshing. Of course, if you asked me who is the boss at this season, I will answer: “ef”!!, ef rules!!

And Genshiken, of course… There’s inteligent life somewhere out there on the anime world. But I missed Mushishi… That’s a great anime”! Good stories, amazing pictures! How more years to see anything like that again?

So far EF is leading, Shana and the rest are failing, and Clannad delievers. Fuuko’s arc might not be as “emotionaly impacting” but it has more commedy, equal or more likeable characters, a much better side kick comic relif character, and tons of character development. One of the few things I didn’t like as much about Kanon was the sudden Yuuichi x Ayu and how isolated each arc was, Clannad seems to solve both problems so far. I really loved Kanon but Clannad is more balanced in a sense.

Erpz…like, why is no one watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai?

Okay, fine, so technically it isn’t Autumn 07, but EVERYONE seems to have forgotten about it, you know?

Even though it’s much better than the first season?

I blame Minatsu. Why oh why are they focusing on the least of the harem? XD

Sorry, Moyashimon’s not my cup of tea. While the lactobasillus looks kinda cute, it still doesn’t really fit me.

@Pinnacle: I’m still watching Higukai. But somehow, it’s really, uh, hard to blog about. All I want to say after watching each episode is “Ganbare! Rika to Hanyuu! Unmei wo kuchikadake!”. Doesn’t really make for fun blogging.

I agree about Clannad — while the humor is great, the fact that it’s in there keeps me out of BAWWWing range when the sad scenes come. Now if ep9 has zero humor in it and is just all about the story, then I’ll likely cry.

Kind of like there’s a threshold X at which I start crying. Clannad provides Y amounts of BAWWage, such that Y > X. However, there is a humor element H that results in X > (Y – H), so I don’t cry. o.o H, therefore must be significantly small.

Anyway, I agree you should add Moyashimon. And I assume you’re putting Kodomo no Jikan on hold until the DVDs because of the TV censorship.

@Pinnacle: I’m still watching HiguKai. Happy that Hanyuu is getting developed more. (And she has an awesome image song to boot.)

About 70% of the shows of this season are turd, only Higurashi Kai, ef, and Clannad are worth watching for me. If Shana II goes on with the same crap of episodes 2 – 7 I’ll also stop watching it…

The hybrid of “on tangent” and “off topic” was cute. English is so maleable.

@Kurogane: I understand. There’re some good shows that aren’t for me as well (Kaiji, for example). I’m curious though, what turned you off on Moyashimon?

  20. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    November 28, 2007 @ 5:05 pm

Dunno, I just don’t feel like watching it. Yes I know there’s a lot of Moyashimon fans, but it’s personal thing that I don’t choose to watch it.

    @Author: “off-tangent” is a oft-used expression. I didn’t made it up.

@Crisu: Probably not going to watch Kodomo no Jikan anytime soon. I’m content to follow the manga.

    > I agree about Clannad — while the humor is great, the fact that it’s in there keeps me …

This is one of the reasons I’m not liking Clannad that much. Humour in a Key work is like romance in a Sunrise show. It just doesn’t fit, and you know that eventually it’ll go away and they’ll get back to what they’re best at. Which in this case is serious emotional traumage. So even if there are jokes, and maybe even funny jokes, I have a hard time believing it.

Things have been looking up, however. (I’m on the widescreen delay and have only seen up to ep 5) And there’s still a lot of time for things to get better. (Unlike Da Capo which will end soon and is guaranteed to fail over 0.500)

As it stands now, though, Clannad barely makes my top 5. KimiKiss is a better romance, Blue Drop is a better drama, Ninomiya-kun and Genshiken are better comedies. And as lauded as KyoAni is, it only ties with Blue Drop for animation quality second to Sketchbook.

  22. Vangui Said,

It is sad Sketchbook wasn’t even mentioned. It is my favorite show this season. It is a nice slice of life with a group of very interesting characters.
