i drop 12k when it first appear because of youko as well. but people keep talking about how great it is so went back watch it again.

I believed of the novels in the series is about the Queen of Kyou. Hopefully TP will speed up on the translation of the novels.

And buy the novels form TP if you can, the more sales they ring up on 12k novels the more likely they continue with the rest of the novels and maybe other series as well. You can get it really cheap form places like ebay and half.com.

Tsundere Kyou-Ou FTW!

Sadly, many drop the show because of Youko's initial attitude. Glad you stuck with it.

I'm a big fan of the Twelve Kingdoms as well - had never even heard of it before discovering it by accident while browsing The Anime Encyclopaedia, then watched a couple of episodes on YouTube and was hooked for ever after. Love the story, love the character development, love the world.

As daRAT mentioned, the first of the books has been translated and has a lovely hardback edition available now, the the second one in the series due to come out sometime next year. The translation is very good quality, as is the book itself, and the story, though different in the ways daRAT talked about, is great, and well worth a read. Recommendation seconded.

The first book of The Twelve Kingdoms was translated to English a year or so ago and is for sale on Amazon.com and I believe the second book is due out soon.

The books are different than the anime (which I liked a lot!!) Youko is much tougher than in the anime, also her annoying classmates are not brought into the Twelve Kingdom world.

I highly recommend the books.
