Fall’07 Day Five

Gundam 00

Gundam 00

Interesting. At the least, it starts off more better than Gundam SEED was, also this time, the moral standpoint of the main characters are much more unique, which is by using violence to stop violence, which, obviously is ironic and also impossible. The seiyuu work by the 4 main males are pretty solid, and I won’t deny it’s fun to hear Jun Fukuyama Mamoru Miyano again. Quite a number of females in this new Gundam as well, so at the least there’s eye-candy. Gotta love the china dress girl.

Well, that was certainly a unique episode. I gotta say though, the production quality was really good, but I’ll be honest and admit I had almost no idea what was happening in the show. Still, worth a watch. Story feels interesting enough, although the way it’s being presented is really artsy and all. For some reason, I felt some hints of Makoto Shinkai in it, I think it was because of the railways.

In terms of voice work, pretty good, but nothing much exceptional.

Kimikiss pure rouge

kimikiss pure rouge

Not bad at all. Kimikiss looks pretty interesting, and the production quality is pretty high. Man, this season’s romance shows are all starting up pretty nicely so far. I’ll also give credit to Kimikiss for having the prettiest stable of girls for this season yet.

The voice work is stellar too, with Rie Tanaka, Koshimizu Ami and Kawasumi Ayako as some of the more instantly recognized voices. I think this is the first time I’ve heard Kawasumi in a teacher character as well. Yum. Rie Tanaka’s character is also my favorite now. I’m such a sucker for those types.

Shugo Chara

Shugo Chara

Uh, why am I watching this?

Heh, well, this was pretty entertaining actually. I kinda like the main girl, mostly for how she manages to act “cool & spicy” even if she’s actually not so in her own thoughts. The voice work for her was pretty well done as well, with seiyuu Itou Kanae effortlessly changing from cool to awkward.

All in all… I would say I enjoyed it, even with all the cheesy mahou shoujo elements. Ahh.. I guess this is a sign of how much in to otakudom I’ve sunk in to….

    I disagree. Seed started out a whole hell of a lot better then Gundam 00, but I guess people want to bash Seed a lot….. Seed actually did start out with violence to stop violence and death and only changed in the middle. Not that Gundam 00 isn’t interesting, but I also don’t see anything special so far about it.

    Shugo Chara was a big surprise. A young teens’ mahou shoujo series that was really touching and entertaining. I don’t think it’s a sign that you’ve sunk too far into otakudom, more that you are open-minded and can see quality when it presents itself, no matter under what guise.

    Finally a batch of new shows thats actually worth a watch. They all have something interesting and are IMO one of the better shows of the season. (Shugo Chara completely took me by surprise)

    So far so good.

    Shugoa Chara’s manga is great. Done by Peach-Pit (Rozen Maiden, DearS, Zombie-Loan). I feel that the anime is a bit more childish than the manga, but I expect it to be good. Although, when Amu does go mahou shoujo on the enemies (in the manga), it seems a bit ridiculous. But whatever.

    Hmm about that chinese costume girl in Gundam 00 she is similar to Chao Ling Shen of Negima Manga. And the storyline seems from FMP + Gundam Wing

    Quick heads up kurogane, Jun Fukuyama has no part in Gundam 00 to my knowledge. If you’re talking about Setsuna, the honors go to Mamoru Miyano.

    For Kimikiss pure rouge, I was a little surprised they changed the story slightly but after thinking about it for awhile, made sense. No point trying to do a harem-ish show just to show off all the girls when they could instead introduce some new anime only (I think) male characters to help spread the love. Also makes it a bit more believable in terms of whatever potential hookups may happen throughout the show versus if the main male “going through” all the girls… although if JC Staff did something like KyoAni in how they handled Kanon and the various girls’ route, that may have worked out as well. Meh, I’m still hyped for the show and IMHO it started off decently enough :)

    Bah, I mistook their names. Thanks a lot for pointing it out moyism.

    @hashihime: Yeah, I kinda meant the statement in that way. Before this, I would’ve not even paid attention to Shugo Chara. The more I “sink” in to it, the more I know how to appreciate it, heh.

    @cdeeee: Eh, SEED started off with Kira taking control of a Gundam, w/o prior training. I wouldn’t call that exactly “a hell lot better”. Gundam 00 has a more believable and interesting storyline for me, also the start was pretty well executed to the effect.

    @arigatou: Oh yes, Setsuna just gives me the Sousuke vibe, a lot.

    Seed = remake of 0079

    00 = remake of Wing.

    Setsuna-sama, or Ligth-o sama for me; is just too creepy for being the main character of this new Gundam project.

    No, Xellos – SEED was a remake of Mobile Suit Gundam (untrained civilian hero on a space habitat thrown into the middle of a war, someone who he’s related to was working on the mobile suits that he ended up fighting from, then going down to Earth, crossing parts of Earth, going back into space….).

    Uh Haesslich, Mobile Suit Gundam is also known as Gundam 0079 (as this is the setting for the original series), and while Gundam 00 does have a little Wing vibe to it, I hope it doesn’t go down that path. So far the action in 00 is comparable to UC as in there are no fancy moves by Gundams, no mass whorings and no Gundam posings. YET.

    Anyone notice how the first suit shown in Setsuna’s flashback looked suspiciously like the RX-78?

    Well, let’s just start complaining after like, 5 episodes, okay? Seriously, there’s just not enough material to dismiss Gundam 00 as another Wing, despite that it does have a feel of Wing, but better.

    That’s the first time I’ve seen 0079 used outside of the sidestories and the manga – mostly I see it as ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’ if anything, with the numeric titles reserved for the series that follow it, like 0083, 08 MS Team, etc.
