Shakugan no Shana II 01

Shakugan no Shana II

She’s pretty cute.

Hmm.. well, basically half recap episode to reintroduce us back to the world of Shakugan no Shana. At the least it wasn’t a total recap.

In short, Yuuji gets trapped in a dream world, where he relives back some of the events of the first season, mainly Friagne’s and the Aizen twins parts. However, he notices the incongruences and realizes his situation, finally breaking free from it, back to the real world where he and Shana are actually fighting against the Tomogara that sent him in to the dream world. Shana easily takes care of her, but she disappears with an ominous smile. Both of them resume walking to school, and when they reach there, Shana notices Yoshida bringing a bento box, which she declares as her second declaration of war (XD).

Hmm… a pretty mediocre episode, in contrast with the awesome OP that got me pretty hyped up. Probably too much Yuuji, he’s too bland. I wish they could replace him with Saito instead, that was one of Satoshi Hino’s more awesome roles. Don’t even want to mention the disappointing ED though…. I miss Takahashi Yoko and Ishida Yoko T_T. I do hope J.C. Staff will do a better job with the Shana series this time round, as the first one descended to mediocrity towards the second half, with a lot of messed up pacing and story development.

A Horned loli is enough for me to keep watching. I wonder how more episodes i’ll be able to stand if it continues like this… Luckily, there’s still the “Urusai x 3” :3

Don’t count Yuuji out yet. He’s pretty bland now, but as the latter novels reveal, there’s more to him than just being a nice guy. Throwing Pheles into the mix pretty much cements that fact…

I find it pretty odd that she’s depicted in the OP as an antagonist, as in the novels she’s a relatively neutral Crimson Lord (aside from the thing with the Reiji Maigo, whose origins she plays a major part in), and fighting Wilhemina as well (in the novels, she actually saves Wilhemina).

I really wish (but I know it won’t happen) they’d just close the triangle with this series.

Amen. Yuuji just comes across as an indecisive idiot whenever the triangle’s in play. Either stop eating her freaking bentous or put it in, already…

I second what Myssa Rei said. Don’t hate on Yuuji too much.

Later on he pulls a Simon and pierces the heavens with his drill.

And unfortunately, the triangle won’t be resolving any time soon. >_>

At least if they stick to novels, anyway. I kinda wish they would deviate a bit, because I get really tired of him waffling between the two constantly.

Well, if they won’t solve it, it means poor screenplay in my book, as it’s just a matter of not wanting to “enrage” any fan. Besides, the first episode started with half recap, which is bad enough. The first series had the problem of lacking focus, and I certainly hope it won’t happen in this second series.
