Winner: Hiiragi Kagami unless there would be an unexpected opponent that been taken lightly.

You yourself admit that “Saimoe is just a popularity contest,” so what gives you more right to argue that the results are legitimate than I have to criticize a flawed system? As I’ve already stated, I don’t care about individual characters, but I do care about results. I simply chose the biggest example of BS results I could find.

How would I set up Saimoe? I would resolve the contest with a series of Borda counts and eliminations, beginning with voters ranking their top 20 out of all 290 characters. No need for grouping at all.

If you support a system where one of the top 6 contestants (with >1000 votes) can be eliminated while far weaker contestants (lowest round 1 winner is Chigusa, with 399) advance, then go ahead. I’ve made my point.

I’ve seen many, many people who complain about Saimoe and you’re just another one. Besides, when it comes down to the basics, Saimoe is just a popularity contest, so if you like a character that much, then go vote and campaign for her before complaining about the results.

Seriously, many people complain about the results, but when I asked them if you voted, they’ll go “Oh I was too lazy to care.” or “Pssh, it’s just another popularity contest.”

Well, if you’re saying that, then DON’T FREAKING CRITICSISE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Just because the matchups are randomly generated does not mean that the results would be legitimate. When poor characters advance past more popular characters due to the results of grouping, something is seriously wrong.

Nonsensical results = nonsensical contest setup.

I wish some people would actually examine the evidence and think before condemning a critic for bias.

1. Nomination of characters on 2ch.
2. Proceed to first round of qualification. Top 8 each day qualifies.
3. Proceed to second round of qualification. Top 16 each day qualifies.
4. All qualified characters are then given a number and randomly assigned to a group. This is done with a custom-written random generation program, where the methods and results are made public and participants can verify the results independently.

The groupings are basically determined via a fair computer program custom written for the tournament. The source code is given out to the public and those with the technical knowledge can use it to compare with the generated results.

To be honest, this year, I’m seeing a pretty messed up, but fairly distributed matchups. You can’t really say the dispersion is unfairly skewed to a camp.

I wish people would actually think before condemning the competition once their favorite character loses, apparently to “unfair matchups” or “vote-rigging”.

Hinagiku easily advances to round 2 with 1103, due to her popularity and being in the same group as losers I’ve never heard of.

Maria gets eliminated with 1161, because she had the bad luck of ending up in the same group as Kagami (1356)!

This tournament lacks legitimacy.
