"Hayate, Erio and Caro are not main characters. "

They are main characters, but shafted to oblivion for Hayate and too little development for Erio and Caro.

"I wonder why Erio and Caro are even in this anime"

sad but true. I get no attachment to them or their rushed lame-ass befriending attempt to lutecia at the every end. and I wouldn't say they go against the plot, more like they don't fit into it.
Actually I wonder too about Teana's role in strikers aside from being Subaru's partner.

Alot of focus was given to Subaru but she hardly endears to me as a main character.

the main character is Nanoha and/or Subaru

"Overall, I actually enjoyed the whole season. I agree it could have been a whole lot better, but I see no reason to spew profanities at the studio just because they might not have the budget to go full action style for the whole season."

Not having the budget is one thing, but not planning out the story carefully? Spending more time on NxF fanservice? Putting to much focus on Vivio when all she does is cry 'mama'? Not giving Main characters like Hayate and the whole of team Lightning any proper developments? Poor execution?

That we can blame them.

"The links between Fate, Project F, and Scaglietti (and Erio too) also feel pretty weak."

I'm guessing that Jail is Fate's (Alicia's) biological father. :P

Caro, Erio, and their relationship with Fate were completely neglected. Lutecia and Zest were pretty neglected as well. That whole aspect of the show would been more appealing NOW if they had spent time on it earlier instead of the endless training, Subaru lusting over Nanoha, and Nanoha lusting over Vivio. Why should I care that Caro is befriending Lutecia? They summon crap... that seems to be the only link. No substance there. The links between Fate, Project F, and Scaglietti (and Erio too) also feel pretty weak. Her kicking his ass would have meant a helluva lot more had they developed that storyline further. Just saying he's tied into Project F and bringing up Precia at this point was too little too late. StrikerS brought too much to the table, yes, but had they balanced things a lot better, the season could have been a lot better. Ideally they could have done two separate seasons: One focused on the Stars and the other focused on Lightning. Subaru, Teana, Numbers, Vivio, Ginga, and cyborgs for 13 episodes, then Caro, Erio, Lutecia, Zest, Regius, Scaglietti, and Project F for a separate 13. And poor Hayate... Vivio got more of a transformation than she did. It's almost been a game searching for Hayate the last half dozen episodes. I think I saw here in 23, but I don't know. :P

...No wait, there's Vivio.
