Lucky Star 22: Koko ni aru Kanata

Lucky Star

Oh wow. So awesome it made me cry. Dammit KyoAni, dammit!

Man, I’m a bit short of what to write now for this episode. KyoAni just made me get some kind of writer’s block. I kinda didn’t expect this to happen, and seeing Kanata getting a nice share of screentime was so awesome I just… stopped.

Mom’s are really so awesome. Soujirou is such an awesome guy too, definitely man amongst men. Kanata, you’ll be dearly remembered.

Lucky Star

P.S.: Kanata’s seiyuu is Shimamoto Sumi, her most notable role being Otonashi Kyoko. Oh, wow. KyoAni sure pulled all the stops for her.

Shinamoto Sumi?! I skimmed most of your post as to avoid any spoilers, but that name caught my attention. I blurted out, “O shi-! Kyoko!” Quite classy KyoAni! Very cool.

Sniff sniff… I haven’t see it the whole episode yet, but thanks to Onmi’s preview… I can share the feeling. Damn it, the last thing I needed on this week filled with mixed feelings… LOL

Another great episode. It was interesting to see Lucky Star go in a more serious direction this time.

The story started to move that way last episode with Kagami and the letter, but it wasn’t developed very much and ended up being just another gag. This time they really maintained a good balance between the humor with Soujirou’s comments and the the more serious tone of the scene. It was surprisingly touching – a comment I never thought I’d be making about something from Lucky Star.

I understand exactly what you mean about writers block…there’s so much you could say about this episode, but there’s just something about it that leaves you speechless, almost kind of awestruck.

I kind of wish we could see more of Soujirou and Kanata’s story. It seems like it could make for a very touching romantic comedy, with Soujirou’s otaku-ness being the wild card that always keeps things interesting.

I have to wonder, if Kanata’s round in SaiMoe had been after this episode aired, how would the voting have been different?

I said her most notable being Nausicaä… but Kyoko is just as good.

I was actually expecting this part to be animated when I first saw the manga scans, but I didn’t think it would be this episode. I thought it would be animated closer to the last episode. I’m glad though to see that Kyoani didn’t hold back with this scene – it was really touching to see Soujiro reaffirming his love for Kanata.

Well, Lucky Star is a 24 episodes series, so I think it was pretty close to the end ^^’.

Indeed – just saw it, and almost teared up… although the ending of that scene was very classic Lucky Star. Mind you, I didn’t expect Kanata to be so… well… NORMAL given how Konota ended up. :D

But very, very nicely done scene there.

    Me = tears

Something actually topped Kagamin’s scene in ep21…

And I totally second the reopening of the Saimoe vote with Kanata…

Oh men, all those flashbacks make me feel nostalgic and sad; as Konata’s father said; he was the man who loved the most Konata when she was alive. It has nothing to do with his behavior, or she being his childhood friend; Soujiro really loved Konata… that’s the only thing important.

Another point to discuss here was a hint from Konata and Kagami; maybe a prank from the subbers or KyoAni, I don’t know yet but I want to say it. Kagami told Konata that many visual novels were being made anime; then Konata pointed out that certain novel has already three anime series and the fourth one was in planning stage. I bet my 3 TB collection of anime that they’re speaking of Full Metal Panic… maybe a hint for Summer 2008 after KyoAni finished Haruhi II. I’ll cross my fingers.

Yeah… that’s true. Soujirou’s love for Kanata is truly real.

As for the novel thing, pretty sure that’s FMP they were talking about.

You’ll have to wait untill the soundtracks all come out. Each Lucky Star DVD is released with one CD that contains some of the BGM tracks of the show. It’s a pretty annoying marketing decision, since I prefer a nicely compiled Original Soundtrack CD, but then, it does add some value for the DVD buyers.

Still… KyoAni… can’t you release a fully fledged OST CD for once?

  19. Syaoran Li Said,

    September 7, 2007 @ 3:59 pm

Damn right! I’m longing for that BGM…. sniff sniff
KyoAni, I hate that part of you… sniff sniff…
I’ll forgive you if FMP coems out on July 2008

I sincerly doubt it. They still have to do Suzumiya haruhi season 2 before that, so odds are that it will come on in 2009.

This episode was definetely diverged from the rest, and quite frankly, the scene made me smile rather than cry….wait, how the hell does such a scene make people cry?

Alias, it’s tears of happiness. Your so touched; Your emotions must come out. :)

    This scene was wonderful.

And Orion, you forgot the fact after the guy had confessed he just wanted a stupid doll. Kagami was feeling kind of… stupid. Like, ‘of course, why expect such feelings for me?’ Konata picked up on this, and insisted she and her friends go out and around… She also insisted that she took a picture specifically for Kagamin.. “We Love Kagami!” (Misspelled, very cute.) And Kagami ended up hanging it up on her wall. :)

So it wasn’t so much a gag.
