Reasons why I think StrikerS has gone to the dumps.

  1. Unimpressive action.
  2. StrikerS fights just don’t elicit that same adrenaline rush I had watching the action in the first two series. Apart from Nanoha going batshit insane, StrikerS fights have been mostly forgettable. I can still replay the first Vita vs Nanoha battle from A’s in my mind clearly.

  3. Too damn many characters.
  4. Well, for starters we had time speeded up 10 years later, introducing in 4 new rookies, along with a whole bunch of other misc. minor roles like the Church people, Mobile Six bridge bunnies and support staff and a whole bunch of other TSAB people (including that annoying General guy) plus Vivio-chan now. While on the antagonist side, we had Lutecia, Agito, Zest, the whole freaking bunch of Numbers androids and Dr. Orange with his faithful assistant. That makes around 30-40 individual characters to focus on, and that’s not including the original characters. At this rate, the next season of Nanoha will have the cast list the size of a Touhou game, maybe two.

  5. Recycled character designs.
  6. Lutecia = Loli Rider
    Agito = Chibi Etna
    Vivio = Alisa Bannings II.

… and I’m not even going to lump in the shitty production quality in this list. They should just screw all that TSAB politicking bullshit arc they have now and put more budget in to making more explosions and fights.

Well, that aside, StrikerS is okay if you want your moé overload…. Vivio-chan~~ <3.

    To me, the problem is with the plot itself. If people ask you what is the story in the 16 episodes of StrikerS so far, what can you come up with?

    Training… more training… Nanoha went nuts on Teana… training
    They found vivio with a couple Relics attached
    The Zangief looking guy doesn’t like them

    You can’t tell me that you can’t get all that in 8 episodes instead of 16. Needlessly stretching the plot to fill a 26 episode season instead of the usual 13 is to blame.

    I blame the script writers, things up to ep7 were utter shit. Action was… missing from action. The whole show is a blatant franchise milking.

    If you are worried about action, just watch episode 16 of Nanoha StrikerS. It turns the series completely around.

    rozen: episode 16 is kinda late to try and turn the series around……

    My thoughts on Nanoha StrikerS after loving the first two seasons.

    The 10 year time jump, this jump has signifacantly changed our old characters, we have moved entire planets…. universes whatever, so the majority of the old characters that we had fallen in love with may never actually show up(I MISS YOU Noel and Farin K. Ehrlichkeit). ANNND the focus is now on that group of 4 newbs who after 14 episodes at least aren’t ANYWHERE as awesome as Nanoha was by episode 3-4 of the FIRST series.
    The ONLY good thing that has happened since the time jump, was their giant bed.

    The plot is moving at a snails pace, coupled with poor animation. I mean the first time they did the transformation was what episode 5? And the VAST majority of the fights are against drones….I’m sorry but if you want awesome it HAS to be Mages vs Mages. I mean the Nanoha goes BatShitCrazy scene is the FIRST TIME in the series that it’s even close to being a mage on mage fight, AND IT SHOWS!

    There are a LOT of thing that they’ve done wrong with StrikerS, and I’m afraid that it’ll probably kill the series. -_-
    I know that when the US DVDs come out I at least won’t be buying StrikerS.

    I can’t help but agree on all of the points Kurogane mentioned, but seeing that there’s less boring crap and more fight scenes, combined with my now refueled Nanoha-fanboyism, I’m kinda sorta liking it now.

    You know, Kuro. Pretty much every single Touhou game has under 15 characters.

    StrikerS really isn’t that bad of a series guys. It’s using the first half to introduce the new characters, setting, and scenario for the series, and then using the second to play everything out. To address the blogger’s points…

    1. They’re gradually building up the action. If the previews are any indication, ep 17 should be pretty intense.

    2. The more characters the better. That means there will be a certain level of unpredictability as to which of the newer characters will survive the series. As well, adding more characters is a logical progression for the series.

    3. So what? Borrowing character design ideas has been par for the course for years. Even respected artists and character designers recycle their own designs.

    If you want to be even more glum about Lutecia’s design, her outfit is similar to that of Cure Black’s from Pretty Cure.

    Strikers is boring. Sure it gets a little better at like 15-16 but that’s a bit late. Seriously A’s started off with a bang! It has awesome fights and cool characters. In strikers, Nanoha and Fate have BoRinG personalites also Tea and her lover lesbo are so generic personality wise it makes them boring as heck.

    The fights with god damn drones don’t help anything either. I had high hopes for this show, but right now there’s Nanoha fanfiction that has more intresting writing -_-;

    Same. The show is just boring, I know people have said ‘I just don’t get it’, but you know what? I don’t, if a show -seems- this boring for 15 episodes and they rename eps 16 ‘Shit finally happens” I might understand.

    I think it all went downhill once they announced the show was going to be 26 episodes, they went really overboard with trying to create this grand scheme which hasn’t gone anywhere or been interesting enough to hold people’s attention. As I had said elsewhere, there’s a difference between character building through natural events where you see it happen and character development where you get it because absolutely nothing else is going on.

    StrikerS is terrible. — for those of you who disagree, I ask you this. Would you be watching this show if it was not part of the Nanoha franchise? I certainly wouldn’t.

    I have no problem with recycled character designs, as long as the characters themselves are relatively interesting. Not the case in StrikerS.
    I have no problem with numerous characters, with good writing this can be handled successfully and actually make a series more interesting. However, in StrikerS characters are introduced for little or no purpose or significance.
    On this note, I found it ironic that the writers go out of their way to make an excuse for Nanoha’s boring adult personality. The writers completely ignore the concept of character dynamics: Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate have almost identical personalities, and boring ones at that. VERY different from previous Nanoha series where each character was unique. The dynamics for the recruits has promise, but in a boring environment of safe training, there is little potential.

    I could go on much more, but, all in all, StrikerS needs to get interesting very quickly for it to be tolerable. Animation quality up, battle up, random characters going insane for convincing reasons, collateral damage, general ownage. It will never be a good show, because the first 10 eps have failed miserably, but it could be salvaged. If only it had been a 2 13 ep season show, then the real story could be done in the latter 13 while chalking up the first dozen or so to a mistake.

    Perhaps you guys should give it more time and episodes before judging. Personally I’ve seen enough anime that don’t even begin to dive deep into the plot and action till late into the series.

  14. FlameStrike Said,

    For the record. I definatly would NOT be watching this show if it didn’t have Nanoha in the name. This show fails.

  15. quickbrownfox Said,

    I actually haven’t watched the first 2 seasons, lol. Maybe that might be why I’m probably enjoying this more than the average nanoha fan. I guess you were used to Fast-paced beamspam battles or something. I dunno. I guess things seem new to me, though I can care less for cameo characters(people from past seasons), not like I’m attached to them.

    Well, the Numbers are a downer… time for the generic villain group, even Naruto does a more interesting version of that. Lutecia’s group seems much more interesting because their motives are different from the “real” villain. I also lack the background on Project F, was it? It’d be interesting for more developments on that.

    Really, I think if they could, they should have removed the word “Nanoha” from the title of StrikerS. It’s not Nanoha’s show anymore. At least I don’t see Nanoha being the focus of the show. That way, the connection between the first 2 seasons may be severed, and the show can be treated as an individual. I do notice that a lot of the strikers comments are the lack of action, which they probably picked up from the past, and pinned their expectations on the descendant.

    tl;dr. I’m bored. Where’s my subs.

    Two words. Episode Seventeen.

    I don’t think I’ve been this hyped up after watching an anime episode… well… ever. And that was the eye cancer version. God knows what it’ll be like when the screen isn’t pixellated all to hell. Worth the wait.
