Nanoha, White Devil Mode.

Nanoha StrikerS

(Sorry for the sucky pics. The StrikerS Raw Syndrome to be blamed for it.)

Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Right after getting mentally pwned by Konata’s “Gokigenyou”, next is Nanoha’s White Devil Mode, making it’s first appearance ever.

After the boredom of character introduction and continuous training, interspersed with the new henshins and a little battle here and there, here comes the first shocking plot twist of Nanoha, which was what made it indirectly awesome. And dear god, Nanoha has now truly cemented the “White Devil” name for her with this episode, with that no-holds-barred (ok, actually she did hold back a lot, or else Tiana would’ve been converted to energy already) punishment she inflicted on poor inferiority complex Tiana.

So an explanation for the events goes something like this:

Basically, Tiana is emo over the events last episode where she almost killed her partner (and lesbian crush) Subaru. While she starts to practice hard, the rest of the cast is given a crash course in her past where her brother was one of the TSAB elite but died in a case and was labelled “useless”. Tiana is traumatized by that and seems that she wants to fulfill her brother’s dream therefore explaining why she went in to the TSAB.

Later on, Subaru and Tiana decide to practice a new combo move and they do so earnestly. As part of their training, Nanoha holds a mock battle between her and the both of them, and Subaru starts off by distracting Nanoha with close-combat while Tiana does her long-range attacks. It turns out that Subaru’s close range attacks are a distraction to make Nanoha concentrate her barrier on Subaru, and Tiana sneaks in from behind to deal the finishing blow.

Before getting hit by it, Nanoha recites “Raging Heart, Mode Release” and catches Tiana’s gunblade with her free hand, while the other still holds Subaru’s Revolver Knuckle. She goes really, -really- mad, and asks them why are they doing such reckless moves thus rendering her training useless. Tiana starts going emo and decides to shoot Nanoha down, but before she does that, Nanoha tells her to “calm down” and uses back Tiana’s own Crossfire attack on her, followed up with a mini Divine Buster, rendering her unconscious… as Subaru, captured in Nanoha’s binds, watches on helplessly…

Moral of the Day: Do not. I repeat, DO NOT, piss off Nanoha, unless you are SS+ or you have valid reasons for doing so.

The White Devil LIVES! Finally going to have some light shed on what happened to Nanoha between A’s and StrikerS that’s hinted at in the manga. I’m excited. :D

… well, she’s adept at dismantling people psychologically as well as physically, it seems. Nanoha may be death on two legs, but her people skills…

Anyone else here think ‘Higurashi!’ upon seeing some of the emo faces and the ‘dead-eyed Nanoha’ thing?

lol I thought of Higurashi. Seriously, they shouldn’t have to wait for the DVDs to make the art consistent. Well, techinically, this would count as consistent. Didn’t all three seasons have iffy animation for the TV episodes?

No way, the previous seasons had pretty decent art quality. The only episode I could think of in the previous Nanoha season that had down right hideous art quality was back in season 1 during the hot spring inn episode.

Nanoha season 3’s art quality really can make a grown man cry.

Intrestingly enough, Tiana’s mental image of Nanoha in the 4-koma somehow came true ^_^;.

Nothing is worse than a teacher who whould blame her own failing to properly impart a lesson on the student instead of herself.

Someone who does that is a embarrassment to the teaching profession and should be summarily removed.

    Speaking from personal experience.

How NICE of you to ignored the fact that Teana has gone crazy first…

… Or the fact that she just tried to kill Nanoha…

… Or the fact that Nanoha DID indeed put in alot of effort to come up with the best possible method to teach her students…

… Or the fact that Nanoha DID indeed told her that what she’s doing is reckless and that she should stop…

There’s nothing worse than a Student who blame her own failing to properly learn a lesson on the teacher instead of herself.

Someone like that deserved to be shot down from her high horse and get the crap kicked out of her.

You guys are forgetting that TSAB is a military-styled organization. Tiana not only endangered her life by acting so recklessly, but she also raised her arms against a superior. She was totally berserk. Nanoha earns my respect for honoring her rank and giving her a ruthless, unforgettable lesson.

ps. The White Devil turns me into a weak, helpless lesbian. I want to be Nanoha’s bride.

i agree with that, though Nanoha propbably sounded like she was ready to disown and kill Tiana, and the mood was unmistakably there (for a split second, i though that Naoaha had snapped and just killed tiana, those eyes… )

there was the trailer of ep 9; Nanoha’s apparent dismissal from the service (why is she out of the brown uniform i dunno, but i guess thats one propbable way of looking at it) and then the final scene where vita is holding up a propbably dead white devil

then again, that last scene could just be a flashback, and they are pulling our legs and twisting them a bit

What alot people don’t realize is teaching is NOT an easy business.

Nanoha had spent alot of time planning their training for them, and what did they do? Throw it out of the window…

Rather than angry, I say that Nanoha was HEART-BROKEN… =(

Anyway, about the brown uniform, Nanoha did say before that she would wear it once in while if the situation calls for something formal…

After someone pointed it out for me, I noticed that there was actually a light magic aura around Tiana when she fell off. Apparently someone (probably Nanoha) prevented Tiana from crashing down in the unconscious state.

“then again, that last scene could just be a flashback”
I remember that scene from the “A’s to StrikerS Manga”
This episode was very emotion heavy.

I can’t really comment (mainly because I don’t know what to say).

  17. Nighthawk_Imac Said,

Aright, I didn’t take that much into account. I’m just saying how crazy the scene looked. It was a heavy scene no less in many ways.

Oh I envy you guys that can watch the show in its RAW form and comprehend everything that’s being said. I’m still waiting on episode 7 to be subbed, I hope yesy doesn’t dump this series like the other fansub groups have. T_T

I can’t undestand the raws 100%. Hell I probably understood on a few words.

You can understand a bit of the raw without knowing Japanese (if the episode is not all talk-heavy).

Rewatching the scene with a better raw… it does seem the crappy raw amplified the impact of the scene a lot.

Definitely, it was Tia’s fault for going berserk on Nanoha, and Nanoha did what every good teacher should have done, which is to punish her. I must say, the production team should -really- work more on the faces… Nanoha’s facial expressions in those scenes are really screwed up.

And yeah, there was a pink aura surrounding Tia when she fell down which protected her. While it might have seemed that Nanoha really went nuts, but she’s really still in control of herself.

Now the question is… will Subaru side with her idol Nanoha, or her lover Tia :P.

Nanoha’s VA played Rika from Higurashi… Teana’s VA played Rena from Higurashi…

    My guess that it has something to do with that ^^;;
