Lucky Star

Saa.. watch Lucky Star-dayo!

Yay! KyoAni has really picked up the pace with the 2nd episode of Lucky Star. A definitely a much more enjoyable episode than the last one. The episode was packing with many references and also direct showing of anime/manga and games, which was what I’ve been expecting from Lucky Star in the first place. Looks like KyoAni’s partnership with Sunrise (and by extension, Bandai) is paying off well. I was a bit surprised to see that Keroro Gunsou being featured prominently, along with Hare Hare Yukai in the Taiko game, the Full Metal Panic novels, the magazines and also Shuffle’s Sia being directly included in.

I also liked the split screen technique used by Kyo Ani prominently for the first 5 minutes of the episode, nicely using it for the Hiiragi twins, showcasing their different lifestyles. Konata doesn’t fail as well, and she supplies a lot of laughs, but did anyone feel that she was jabbing in quite a bit much when she was commenting about how the cast of the Drama CD’s and Anime tend to differ nowadays. Being an otaku who has felt disappointment on this topic a few times (imagine Noto-sama doing Suigintou :o!), I felt that it was a nice jab XD.

Also, Akira doesn’t fail to disappoint this time as her split personalities do not fail to entertain me. Also, I totally busted my gut laughing when Minoru Shiraishi did his “Wa-wa-wa-wasure..” song ‘accidentally’ while introducing himself. Damn, that was funny XD. Akira just so nicely parodies the ‘Idol’ concept in a very awesome manner.

The ED had Konata doing another karaoke of a sentai song again, and it seems the next one is also another sentai song. This concept, I have to say, must be one of the most creative ED perhaps. Come to think of it, they can save a lot by recycling that little bit of animation and use it to pay the seiyuu’s more! Ingenious. Can’t wait for Konata to reach the anime songs!

Also, what is with the Lucky Star previews… it’s so weird, yet somehow….funky(?), with the seiyuus saying something that matches the mouth movements so accurately, yet totally unrelated at all.

P.S. /r/ Kona-chan’s part time job experiences next week.

You see… never judge a series only for its first episode.
^_^ Lucky Star has potential… but, I’m going to wait until a.f.k. realise episode 2

ah, sorry, i can’t really see a huge difference between episode 1 and 2. I thoroughly enjoyed episode two just as much as i did the first one and so, maybe i’m just different. maybe cuz i like yonkomas? oh well, please someone use their psychology skills and analyze me.

btw, when Konata owned that guy in virtua fighter, why was that guy’s name Eleven? Geass Reference? jk, im stretching it too much.

I thought that was a clever self-reference. The seiyuu cast of the Lucky☆Star anime is actually different from that of the drama CDs as well. There was a whole discussion about that over on Animesuki a while back.

Mirinus, that was one of my favorite jokes of the episode as well. It’s a pretty discussed topic everywhere, so I’m not suprised that KyoAni decided to poke some fun at it.

My personal favorite part of the episode is still Akira though. They should have just let Akira have her own show altogether. I would watch it, as sad as that is.

    Wait what?

Wow, I really have to take a look at this. The only time I’ve ever seen such a technique masterfully done was on Coupling, a british show, and that was almost 6 years ago. It would be nice to see such a thing performed on anime.

Also, I totally busted my gut laughing when Minoru Shiraishi did his “Wa-wa-wa-wasure..” song ‘accidentally’ while introducing himself

OMG I can’t believe they did it :D. Now all those nay-sayers can go fsck themselves, this totally proves that the show is pure WIN.

Hehe, I’d say I was the first one who pointed that out.

I too didn’t notice a huge difference between episode 1 and 2. I just think people really want to bust out a reference to Haruhi episode 1 being misleading and episode 2 cementing the series since people are kind of obsessed with comparing everything to that show, ESPECIALLY anything with Aya Hirano in it. I knew this subject would come up as soon as episode 2 aired. On AnimeSuki though the concensus is still that its light 4Koma comedy.

    I’m going to find time to actually sit and watch this ^^;
I want to find out how good it is.

Ep 2 is better than ep 1, but only because the low points are better and/or shorter in ep 2. KyoAni did a good job with most of the ep this time around. The splitscreen, arcade, and classroom sequences were fine up until “that” conversation. At which point I started praying for Lucky Channel to start. I hope Minoru gets a bunch of lines in the main segment soon, just so I can see Akira REALLY tee off on him.

Oh, and, eyecatches? In my KyoAni show?

The phrase ‘Fungah’ in the OP is the same one Miu write on Nobue’s resume (Ichigo Mashimaro OVA1)?

By the way, was the ‘cast different from the drama Cd’ comment supposed to be directed at Ouran Host Club?
