Lucky Star Start!

Lucky Star

……… what? Huh?? That’s it?

:3 muuuuuUUUUUUuuuuuuUUUUUU~~~~……..

P.S. The OP was nice though…..

P.P.S To be honest, it was a bit hit and miss for me, the whole episode… I only understood probably 60% of the show, even after 2 rewatches… sigh I need subs… But still, it’s not failing me yet. Hopefully the second episode will be more enjoyable.

It seems everyone was disapointed by it. I havent seen a positive review from the first ep yet.

It’s funny how much one episode of a 24 episode series is getting people so riled up. I feel that people are treating the show more than it is, and also it’s why first impressions should not be a major part of watching a show. :P

Easy, easy people, don’t be so serious about it… is just the beginning…
Remember the first episode of Haruhi Suzumiya, it was awful and then… BOOM

Actually, the 1st ep of SHnY was the best imho, even before ep 10 and 12.
I never expected Lucky Star to be brilliant, looking at the source material, just for it to be fun to watch and it seems to answer to my personal expectations.

You said it, I’ve rarely seen so many people nearly have a heart attack over a single episode

The sad thing, it wasn’t like it was TERRIBLE in any sense. I think people got a bit too hyped about it.

I’m looking forward to seeing more Akira in this series and what kind of ED they’re going to come up with.

I loved the first episode. Of course, I went into it with very few expectations, and was immediately won over by the cute character designs. It’s like Hidamari Sketch and Azumanga Daioh all over again.

I don’t really expect anything from KyoAni other than faithfulness to the source, great direction, and awesome animation. I see all three in Lucky Star, which means that KyoAni lives up to its reputation once again.

    >>You said it, I’ve rarely seen so many people nearly have a heart attack over a single episode.

The level of hype is directly proportional to the level of trolling.

    >>I don’t really expect anything from KyoAni other than faithfulness to the source, great direction, and awesome animation.

It was faithful, yes, but it just lacked “impact”… I need the subs to understand it fully.

    >>I feel that people are treating the show more than it is, and also it’s why first impressions should not be a major part of watching a show. :P

Of course, but first impressions count much in the short run too, so I guess it’s just a bit of disappointment that the show started on a lesser than usual note. I, too, agree that the show will eventually be awesome, but for now, the feelings of disappointment are still not disappearing.

The humor is gentler and less “laugh-out-loud” than people are used to, I guess. Personally, I loved the show. For me, the anime was a bit funnier than the comic, because of the life the voices put into it. The no-name voice actors were good, and Hirano Aya just nailed Konata. Her squishy eating sounds near the beginning were classic.

I think some people (not saying here) are too attached to the high detail of SHnY, etc. I thought the animation per se was just as good in this as there, despite the lack of detail. I especially liked some of the hand movements. And the OP of this may be even better than the ED of SHnY.

Not that this is a “masterpiece,” or anything, but it seems to me like a very good show so far. Just a bit subtler/gentler humor than we’re used to. This episode wasn’t hilarious, but it was continuously amusing.

Oh yeah, true. Aaya-chan’s Konata was friggin’ awesome. I could feel that she was having fun voicing her and it’s a totally different tone from her Haruhi and Lumiere. I personally loved on how Konata was “:3” the whole show, and you could feel it emanating from the tone of Aaya-chan’s voice.

I did have a friend complaining about the poor detail level, but personally I found it fitting to the series, since it’s a gag/slice-of-life show more than anything. It’s just KyoAni experimenting with a different style of animation but I guess most people are still too entranced by Haruhi.

//The level of hype is directly proportional to the level of trolling.//

Are you implying that what I said was trolling? Sheesh, is it impossible on the internet anymore to say what’s on your mind if you don’t have a blog? The statement you made doesn’t make sense, as if all blog trolling happens on hyped shows, or even that all blog posts concerning hyped shows are actually trolled on. IMO a more accurate statement would be ‘The level of trolling is directly proportional to how batshit the blogger went when talking about the show’, if the blogger is reasonable and professional with negative comments, you won’t see all that much trolling, if the blogger goes hilariously ballistic over a single episode, then you’ll get snarky comments from smartasses such as myself.

  12. Likkun Said,

    April 9, 2007 @ 4:27 am

Were people expecting them to completely change the animation or something? The art isn’t what people aren’t used to from seeing KyoAni, and I know some people (not any bloggers, since I know who does is above it) are just lashing about because they’d rather have KyoAni churning out the second season of Haruhi.

Frankly, I can’t imagine how KyoAni could really put their Haruhi style into this series without changing the character designs themselves.

  13. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    April 9, 2007 @ 4:32 am

@mikemil828: No, no, I didn’t imply you were trolling at all.

I was implying that due to the level of hype that most of the fans and bloggers had towards the anime was high, and the Internet being the Internet, there will be inevitably people who will be bashing this show.

I just meant my comment as a follow-up of your already excellent statement. If you would take it as offensive, then I’ve got nothing to say.

Funny thing is, aside from the KyoAni connection, the show hasn’t been hyped all that much.

I haven’t watched the episode yet (I’m considering waiting for a fansub release). Of most of the negative comments I’ve seen, however, my “this person does not have a sense of humor,” sense has been tingling… it just doesn’t seem like the sort of show to get all THIS IS VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS about. Especially after a single episode.

Exactly. The response that’s occurred from it so far is very surprising, and unintentionally hilarious. :P

Say what you want, but you can’t really blame Kyoto Animation for any of the hype. All they did was release 14 seconds of “Uuuuuuu.” Everything else was spawned by unreasonable fans who somehow expect Haruhi or Kanon from a 4-koma. I’ve liked KyoAni’s past works, but that doesn’t mean I have to expect everything to be masterpiece quality, especially when the source material doesn’t even lend itself to be. As TheBigN states, this is unintentionally hilarious for those observing.

So go! Blame the fans for hyping it into what KyoAni never suggested it to be! Or people can just keep bashing it, and I can go back to enjoying slice-of-school-life comedies in peace without having people shout “overrated!” from every direction. That’s fine too.

So, yeah, I watched it raw. After looping the OP quite a few times of course.

Meh. It was ok. But since after watching it I was left thinking it could totally use some loli yuri porn, maybe it’s not as good as we wished it would be. Also, it’s sporting some QUALITY here and there right from the very first episode… did they waste most of the budget on the OP? At least such a radical change in style might be the right thing to remove the “KyoAni” sign we branded it with at first, and maybe if we watch it the next episode without having that in mind, it might turn out to be more enjoyable.

Anyways, it’s good pointing out that I’m quite amazed at Aya Hirano’s performance (wtf is with that “Aaya” spelling, kuro?). At first I was very skeptical about her doing Konata, since I couldn’t really picture her doing a different voice aside from Haruhi, Sanae or Lumiere… but wow, did she really pull quite the performance there. You could barely feel a hint of any of them in her voice, and it also fits Konata down to a T (whatever that means).

ps. Also, I loled at Minoru Shiraishi playing… Minoru Shiraishi.

Hm? It met my expectations, though. I expected an Azumanga Daioh styled type of show. They even had a small reference to Street Fighter 2 in this ep along with the author himself at the extra segment. Oh, and all the seiyuus did a good job here, especially Aya-chan. I think many people should wait for the subs in this case, since it’s more dialogue based.

    PS: Yeah, the OP rocks!

Subs just out. Perhaps way too rushed in some parts (about the med exam thing) and way to stretched out (for the bun thing) at some parts. But then again experiences with alcohol shows that these thing do need time to age after all. Something to watch for those who had seen the Di Gi Charat series.

What do you mean the first ep of tMoSH was bad? It was very smart and entertaining…

Anyway, the jokesub on TT had some good points. “Why are we watching this instead of a second season of Haruhi? Because the animators need a vacation, and otaku will eat this stuff up.” Or whatever it was.

And why is it that I have to switch to IE in order to post on this site?
