oh god Shiori is cute

Kanon 2006

I can’t believe it myself, but I’m rewatching Kanon 2006 while waiting for next week to come. Says much about the quality of the show when you have 10 other unwatched series in possession but decide to rewatch a recently concluded one.

Anyways, rewatching episode one made me realise there’s already a ton of clues put in it, from the random shot of Shiori and her mom passing by Yuuichi and Nayuki while on the way to the hospital, to Yuuichi’s comment “Wasn’t this a barley field before?” on reaching his school, there was really a lot of subtle nuances and clues already being thrown around since episode one.

Also, I can’t believe how much I missed Makoto’s antics. Auu~~~

Heh, now you realize how moe-licious Shiori-chan is.

The hints have been there ever since the first episode.

I’ve recently been watching the early episodes again too…….Mostly because there’s no other anime out there right now to fill the void lol…except maybe Death Note but that’s a different genre entirely :)

It’s ridiculous the amount of clues KyoAni put in the first couple of installments……..two of my personal favourites:

    1. Nayuki chasing the fox on Monomi Hill in ep. 1…….Auuuuuuuuu

    Then in ep. 3:

Ayu: “There should be a cake store around the corner”
Yuiichi: …..”Looks like there’s no cake store here”
Ayu: “That’s strange…..there was a cake store here the last time I came …….”

ya no kidding….since it was SEVEN years ago lol…..

plus she doesn’t know what a cell phone is……….so many clues…. and there are many others for the different girls….including the wheat-field reference that lolikitsune mentioned :)…..

t just makes me appreciate the series even more :)…..

The person following Shiori in the first episode seemed to be Kaori… but I ‘m unable to confirm. It was too fast. =\

You’re talking about the scene by the hospital right? Wouldn’t Nayuki have made a comment if it was Kaori? Besides, wasn’t Kaori out shopping with Kitagawa or whatever his name is. Can’t check now.

I’m afraid you’ve just made a heap of people go searching for torrents of the game. ;)

@kristalyamaki & Asrialys:That’s her mom obviously. I remember it was mentioned in one of the Newtype magazines too.

@Kinny Riddle: Yeah, but I only noticed the Ayu hints since I only remembered Ayu’s route at that time. But now after knowing the other routes too, I’m really surprised at the amount of clues for the other girls as well.

And to Drm, THAT WAS NOT A NEEDED REFERENCE! Chinamini, her shawl is really cute.

I hope you don’t mean that is a bad thing.

there was really a lot of subtle nuances and clues already being thrown around since episode one.

I wouldn’t really call those “clues”, I’d rather call it “subtle foreshadowing”.

    Now these are clues alright.

Did I see a boxcutter among the groceries?

  13. Kinny Riddle Said,

    March 28, 2007 @ 2:25 am

The boxcutter was there in the original game CG, that shot you see is taken directly from that CG. Kyo-Ani leaves no detail unattended, every piece of grocery (note the bag of chips), the snow on Shiori-chan’s hair and stole, and of course the yellow boxcutter.

I had sort of expected that the comments Yuuichi made would be hints toward the future developments…but I forgot about them so It didn’t matter in the end.

Kenny Riddle: I also noticed that Kyoani had alot of detail to copy the CG’s. I wonder if their director was like “Ok see this? Just copy that”

KyoAni gave all those hints for the Kanon veterans, and for those with sharp minds… really good ones. they stop it when Makoto’s Arc enter it’s crutial stage, a good move.

You have to love KyoAni for its references, to the old series, to other Key works, and of course, it’s own projects (like the Lamba Driver effects for Mai’s battles).

Next Saturday I’ll see it again as a prelude for this Spring….
    Lucky Star… here we come.

Shiori reminds me of this poem.

    By: Torquato Tasso ( 1544 – 1595 )
    translated by: William Hawley

Title: Vita de la Mia Vita

    Life of my life,
you are to me like a pallid olive
    or a fading rose;
nor are you deprived of beauty,
but in every way you please me,
    whether you flatter or shun;
and whether you follow me or flee
softly you consume and melt me.

    @ deltazechs

Thank you. The translator, William Hawley, also composed a very fine choral work with original Italian text of the poem which we are going to sing in the upcoming May concert. It is interesting how many part of the poem can be connected with various Shiori scenes.
