Danbooru is dead! Long live the cardboard box.

After revolutionizing the way image dump sites were handled and introducing the concept of the tagboard, Danbooru is finally dead, no thanks to the semenonfigure, hentai and people with shitty tastes uploading every single damn thing they could find on it.

I still love the concept of danbooru, but too bad it was destroyed by a certain group of people with a lack of common-sense.

Here I implore everyone who has found other tagboards to (ab)use, PLEASE do not ruin them as well. Thank you.

Ho shit! Danbooru is really good in finding wallpaper-quality images for myself… the 4koma section is pretty good too.. too bad it’s dead now.

maybe you didn’t know that you could easily block out unwanted content by specifying a tag black list?
maybe you think otherwise, but the semenonfigure stuff was pretty harmless compared to other things they put up.

anyway, i’m sad as hell, and i think i’ll hold a funeral today instead of working :(((((

Actually the tag blacklist didn’t really work well from what I heard.

Besides the servers were getting too overloaded until they had to resort to RAID-ing the whole contents over a few mirror servers from what I heard which increased loading and lag time. I’ve really not used danbooru much over the past 6 months or so.

Wow….I only checked that site a couple of times…..didn’t know it would die so fast.

I’d stopped visiting danbooru for a while because it took too long to find something good. The filters only worked for older posts that had been tagged, but it didn’t do anything for the improperly tagged stuff you don’t want to see. I would agree that the number of people not thinking about the quality of their uploads really killed it.

Dammit, it was full of garbage and ZOMG images of the worst kind, but it was also the repository of some of the best, and had become for a lot of people a sort of anime-image google. Sad day.

R.I.P. dandooru. It had a lot of crap, yes, but for all the crap, there was a lot of good too. :(

Well, there’s a lot of animated chatter on the Danbooru chan at the moment – a few people are trying to retrieve the database (complete with the great tagging) with a view to building a new version, but I’m not sure anyone will actually have the resources (bandwidth) to run it – after all, danbooru was apparently clocking up around 75GB per day just on thumbnail views alone…

danbooru, home of stuff you normally don’t think that people would actually jack off to

hmm why did it die anyway? was it too overloaded with crappy hentai that they took it down? Or was it the bandwith problems?

Humanity is the best, and worst, purveyor around.

I can’t blame Danbooru for shutting down: imagine how much bandwidth they have to spend just for image viewing alone. Plus it getting stupider by the day seeing crap images instead of quality ones when I wanted to find something interesting. That, or 4chan (even it is going to die soon, if things aren’t going well on their side soon).

Time to get back to reality?!

The tag blacklist worked when it was first added, then an update a month or so later broke it and I never saw it work again.

Still, I hate to see the site go away, there was plenty of good images on there too. :(

I never even knew danbooru had all sorts of crap on it. I always searched for specific tags, and I could always find stuff on danbooru that I’d be extremely hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

Damn. A great era has indeed closed for the foreseeable future. RIP.

I had an intuition that this would happen with how rapidly it was growing. Boy, did I right-click like crazy! Among the coal, there were diamonds, of course! Here’s a dump site for many of the pics (http://foone.org/tinyboofoo/index.py) . I hope you find images you’ve loved so much.

R.I.P danbooru. Don’t think they’ll be a better site on the net.
