Ronde without you

Kanon

A fitting episode name I must say, considering the events of the previous episode. Nayuki fans rejoice though, as with Ayu temporarily out of the scene, Nayuki gets her chance to shine.

Undoubtly the whole episode is chock full of Nayuki goodnees, considering she’s been undoubtedly shafted about 55% of the series duration already, it’s fair time she gets her share too and she made this a much more enjoyable episode than last week’s one.

The gist of this episode is her attempts to cheer Yuuichi up after he’s considerably depressed with the disappearance of Tsukimiya Ayu and well, her attempts are quite heart-warming to watch. Meanwhile, Yuuichi starts to recall back some of his memories of seven years ago, and they aren’t good ones to say.

However, the episode does end with… ▼

I thought that the event that ended the episode looked eerily like this video:

SPOILER: Watch Kanon ep 21 first before watching this YouTube

You’re right about the Nayuki goodness, but we’re also getting the background on why Ayu is (probably) the Chosen One.

I can’t remember how the accident was portrayed in the 2002 version. I need to check it out.

Screenshots don’t do it justice. I was looking at some screens of the episode before watching. I just finished it and ended up replaying that second over and over. I couldn’t believe it, even if this is the second time. My gosh, her body just disappeared under that car…

I think in 2002 they just said “your mom got into an accident”

That accident was scary………”Be alright Akiko”

Episode 21 was great altogether. Nayuki finally got some nice screen time. The flashback was pretty emotional too. I was wondering if the snow bunnies had any metaphorical sense to them but it doesn’t matter

Spanky: WTF! It;s the exact same action of the cars…..you’re right…ery

And WE ONLY HAVE 2 OR 3 EPISODES LEFT!!!

Who needs the perfect girlfriend material or perfect wife material when you have Nayuki?!?!?

I really hope that the series lasts 26 episodes, that way we have more time for some Nayuki-ism in the later episodes after the accident (which ought to be renamed into Minase Nayuki no Yūutsu)!

    arcanes, there’s a reason for that title…

There are 24 episodes, hopefully. :P

Wow… I loved the Nayuki good ness but I liked 2002′s finding the lost item better. Still when I saw the car crash I was like WTF OMG how the hell is she going to survive……. damn Nayu-chan goes emo after this ep too. Still during the 2002 the car crash was done well too

As I was saying on a different blog, this episode for me is a perfect 10 :)

here are my reasons why if you want to check them out (in the comments section): http://animearimasu.animeblogger.net/2007/02/23/kanon-21/

Tons of Nayuki goodness :)…….When she sees the unfinished snow bunny it’s so touching…..and she’s so happy when it’s still there! :)…..Moe-ness to the max!…

I think I’m gonna need tissues for the next two episodes…….

@ Arcanes: The BS-I website has 26 episodes listed, but I have a feeling that 23 is the finale, 24 a recap ep. AIR-style and eps. 25-26 going OVA (straight to video release)…..I could be wrong though….

Lots of Nayuki goodness, at last. Poor Akiko-san and Nayuki. The way they showed the car crash definitely had a bigger impact (as Kyo-Ani intended) than the mere words from the original game text of “Akiko-san got hit by a car”.

BTW, if you re-play the crash in slow motion, doesn’t it seem like Akiko-san teleported away just before the car hit her? She got spirited away to safety, hopefully. lol

God damn…I will say this much. KyoAni is god damned vicious. In the game to my memory, they potrayed it as Akiko-san being hit by the car unknowingly since she was too busy with work and was returning home half asleep. Whereas in 2006, she saw the cars flying towards her face CLEARLY. Very vicious indeed.

Spanky: Wow that video is exactly like the anime one. KyoAni people surf Youtube a lot I guess, probably to weed out the illegal copies of Kanon.

The car crash was definitely much more exaggerated than the 2002 or game versions. Hell I didn’t remember about it at all. Hope they fix the “teleporting Akiko” part in the DVD’s though.

As for the episode counts, 23 won’t be the final one, it’s a very odd number to end the series with, and being in tune with the anime industry so long, it’s very very rare that production studios stray from the 12/13 or 24/26 episode count.

23′s title might sound very “final”, but it probably will end with a climax that spills over to the first half of 24, with the final half of that being epilogue of sorts. Then, knowing KyoAni, 25 and 26 will be recaps of the entire series, with 25 focusing on Makoto and Mai, while 26 will be Shiori, Ayu and Nayuki. I don’t really see what else will happen otherwise, despite my wishes for dresh content.

    >>doesn’t it seem like Akiko-san teleported away just before the car hit her?

She did 2A2BC and teleported away (and killed someone by jam-poisoning in the process). She probably did get hurt while practicing her truck-hurling somewhere afterwards, though.

It was so sad that Akiko got involved in a car accident. hope she’s still alive.
