[...] Yeah, you’re sick, Chikane. God, I’m listening to “pure snows” and Impz comics are going through my head nonstop. How the hell am I supposed to blog this show? Either I need more outlets (blogging Kanon!) or skills (drawing Impz comics!) or I just need to shut the fuck up and get back to this show. Waaaay too many tangents today. [...]

Rewatching it again... I am impressed again with KyoAni's spirit of keeping it faithful to the original work, especially with the usage of the BGM from the games rather than make a whole new one.

I'll give credit to them for actually animating the Shori & Kaori scene based on the BGM, pure snows from the Kanon AIR Piano Arrange Refeel album, released in December 2003.

Here's a link to download the track itself: http://rapidshare.com/files/13780458/03_-_pure_snows.mp3

While I agree of most of what Tim had stated, I believe the central notion behind Kanon is the price that one has to pay for miricles to happen, as opposed to enough desire. This can be seen in all the main heroines' arc in the game and the anime.

I'd wager my house that she'll survive. KyoAni's gone with all the 'good' endings so far (and it's hardly possible to imagine them going with Ayu's 'bad' ending to conclude the anime, given the fundamentally inconclusive nature of such an ending), but more pertinently, Shiori's story as it is constructed in the game demands a happy ending.

SPOILERS

<spoiler>Up until the boxcutter revelation, Shiori is presented as an extraordinarily well adjusted, mentally strong character prepared to handle death or life with equanimity because she's resigned herself to her fate. The boxcutter scene's purpose is to establish the lie of this persona and thereby give weight to Yuuichi's impact on Shiori's life; without even knowing that he's doing it, he makes her desire life, and from that point her reconciliation with Kaori and the revelation that they shared the same dream lead logically to the miraculous survival. The central truth Kanon seeks to describe is the notion that miracles do happen, if enough desire is involved in creating them. Shiori's famous miracle line, touted by bloggers all over the net as a great truth, is actually presented in Kanon as a kind of irony; it's true only because Shiori has given up on surviving, and the moment she stops giving up it stops being true.</spoiler>

I am just amazed at how Kyoto just has great touches to compliment such a wonderful story .
The piano is just haunting in that scene as is Shiori's signature line about miracles- all set against perfect animation.

Man...up until now....I thought the Shiori arc was drawn out, and even verging on boredom.....After this episode though, my mind has completely changed :)

Shiori is super cute....and the humourous banter between her and Yuuichi is classic.....can't wait for next week.....

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the artwork/animation for this episode......the river effect at the beginning (while Yuuichi and Kaori are talking) was literally breathtaking :)

P.S. Isn't Kanon supposed to be 24 epidodes, not 26????

>> Yes, I agree… KyoAni giving a bit of tribute or they just like that pose?

That pose is like Shiori-chan's signature pose, she looks sooooooooooooo cute while doing that.
