A song without words between an elder sister and a younger sister

Kanon

Onee-chan….

How can I convey the sadness between Shiori and Kaori….. it’s just…. subtle yet a hard-hitting in many ways in the same time…

Somehow though, what can’t be conveyed through words, the producers used music instead. Kanon’s soundtrack has always played the role of a behind-the-scenes supporter throughout the current TV series’ run, subtly enhancing it yet never taking the center stage. This episode however, as if knowing that words fail, the soundtrack takes charge instead, with the usage of several pieces, conveying effectively the feeling of the atmosphere instead, most notably the track where Kaori returns home and ignores Shiori, powerful and passionate yet sad at the same time.

Still, it wasn’t a truly gloomy episode, though I almost shed a tear at Shiori’s line of “.. but it’s called a miracle because they don’t happen.”… t’was an extremely hard hitting line there. Sigh…

P.S. To a certain Shiori-hater I know… how can you hate someone as cute as this? Either it’s jealousy or you don’t have a human heart at all!

Kanon

So Shiori hates her curry… aahhhh~~

I’m pretty sure the “.. but it’s called a miracle because they don’t happen.” scene shall become Shiori’s trademark shot from now on. U simply cant describe the mood of that particular 5 second scene with words.

That pose reminded me of Mikuru’s “Kinsoku jikou desu”, except much sadder with no winking.

I was moe-crushed by this episode.
Shiori is the ultimate girlfriend material.

Well, as I said before, Shiori’s arc will end at episode 18….
Damn it! A miracle that never happen….

KyoAni is gonna put new stuff into this arc…. so…. bets anyone?

Shiori is cute, but….. Mai FTW!!

I am guessing that they will go ahead with the Shiori-chan laying in the snow bit, and saying good bye to Yuiichi. But she will somehow make it and appear in school the next day with a whole bag of icecream like in the game.

    CUTEST. CURRY-EATING GIRL. EVAR.

Shouldn’t Kyonichi be talking with Amano? “Amano, I have to deal with another dying girl. I’ve taken the latest one to the arcade already, so now what?”

Considering that Kanon is going for a 26 episode run, I would say Shiori’s arc won’t end before episode 20. The only girls left are Nayuki and Ayu, and I do wonder if they will have enough material left for both girls if they end Shiori’s arc before that.

    Seconded.

Yes, I agree… KyoAni giving a bit of tribute or they just like that pose?

That pose is like Shiori-chan’s signature pose, she looks sooooooooooooo cute while doing that.

Man…up until now….I thought the Shiori arc was drawn out, and even verging on boredom…..After this episode though, my mind has completely changed :)

Shiori is super cute….and the humourous banter between her and Yuuichi is classic…..can’t wait for next week…..

I can’t believe that no one has mentioned the artwork/animation for this episode……the river effect at the beginning (while Yuuichi and Kaori are talking) was literally breathtaking :)

P.S. Isn’t Kanon supposed to be 24 epidodes, not 26????

I am just amazed at how Kyoto just has great touches to compliment such a wonderful story .
The piano is just haunting in that scene as is Shiori’s signature line about miracles- all set against perfect animation.

I’d wager my house that she’ll survive. KyoAni’s gone with all the ‘good’ endings so far (and it’s hardly possible to imagine them going with Ayu’s ‘bad’ ending to conclude the anime, given the fundamentally inconclusive nature of such an ending), but more pertinently, Shiori’s story as it is constructed in the game demands a happy ending.

While I agree of most of what Tim had stated, I believe the central notion behind Kanon is the price that one has to pay for miricles to happen, as opposed to enough desire. This can be seen in all the main heroines’ arc in the game and the anime.

Rewatching it again… I am impressed again with KyoAni’s spirit of keeping it faithful to the original work, especially with the usage of the BGM from the games rather than make a whole new one.

I’ll give credit to them for actually animating the Shori & Kaori scene based on the BGM, pure snows from the Kanon AIR Piano Arrange Refeel album, released in December 2003.

[…] Yeah, you’re sick, Chikane. God, I’m listening to “pure snows” and Impz comics are going through my head nonstop. How the hell am I supposed to blog this show? Either I need more outlets (blogging Kanon!) or skills (drawing Impz comics!) or I just need to shut the fuck up and get back to this show. Waaaay too many tangents today. […]
