Nostalgia: Twins version.

Onegai Twins

Like a certain famous anime blogger, I watch a lot of old anime when the heat of the new season dies and my title choices are stabilzed. For example this season, I started with almost 15 series, raw and subbed, but now I’m just following 5-6, with only 3 of them still watching raw (namely Kanon, Otoboku and Mamoru-kun).

Currently, the old series I’m on to is Onegai Twins, the second and last series of the Onegai-verse, and my favourite amongst the two shows. I credit it to making me swing towards the moe side, making me a Kotoko fanboy (Second Flight is still one of her best songs, IMHO), giving me a RM500 phone bill (I was downloading the Lunar subs when it was airing in Japan back in 2003 with a 56K dial-up that charges by the minute on BT, go figure) and also making me GAR for the first time (though I’ve only realised it now… well Maiku is damn cool) so it will always have a place in my heart as one of my all-time favourites.

Onegai Twins is really a show that’s worth more than the sum of it’s parts. The characters might feel bland in this current age, but they’re really the predecessors of their moe stereotypes. I still feel a bit sad though that the Onegai-verse didn’t really continue on after the Twins, I would’ve like to see more of it, mostly because of the awesome place they chose to be the setting for the Onegai series and to see what more happens to the rest of the cast.

Now, back to watching them trying to turn Maiku over the “right side” :).

Wow, I actually finally downloaded (taking me forever to buy it) this series and marathoned it a few weeks ago. Something about the story and setting just appeals to me. These are the kinds of harem anime that I like.

I want to watch both again now. lol

My favorite Kotoko song has to be Chii no Kaeru from Starship Operators.

Twins is as harem as Bleach is mahou shoujo.

On the comedic side I would stick with Twins, but I do like Onegai Teacher more than Onegai Twins. I also like “Love A Riddle” even more than “Second Flight”. It’s just a matter of taste, don’t read too much into it.

True. I did not say that “Twins >> Teacher” or “Teacher sucks” or something like that. I like both series, just that my favourite amongst those two is Twins. Favouring one does not mean I hate the other.

People really need to take context more in to consideration, think before commenting and saying something confrontational that starts a flame war.

The only bad thing abuot Onegai Twins is the animation was shitty as hell compared to Onegai Teacher.

What about this “Onegai Friends” stuff I’ve been hearing about?

It’s a crossover drama between characters from Teacher and Twins.

And the best thing to comeout Twins was the Mai Nakahara- Ai Shimizu pairing.

stumbled upon your blog today, and I really enjoy it.

But twins isn’t half as good as teacher, literally, i would even say twins was terrible. I’m not really sure why I’m in the minority of pretty much anyone who’s seen the series, but I really can’t see one thing you could like about the series. The plot goes nowhere fast (“we might be related, but we might be strangers, at least a dozen times every episode.”), the characters are extremely bland and cliche (all of them), way too much time spent on fan service instead of trying to salvage a plot or any character development, and the animation quality was terrible. This is just my heated opinion about the series, due in large part because I consider onegai teacher a very good series, and was extremely let down to say the least by onegai twins.

Ok, fine. I admit it. I’m GAR for Maiku. That’s why I like this series.

At least you all won’t have complains that Maiku > Kei, amirite.

    Fixed.

But Mike didn’t make me lol as much as Itsuki.

Mike is not Gar enough for me. As a friend of mine wisely pointed out, if he had enough Gar, he would have used a condom with both from the start, and then stop using it with whoever is not his sister :P

That’s not the point of GAR for me! He’s GAR exactly on how he managed to hold off all those advances those two made on him.

I think it’s time for me to make posts on how to define all this new terms…

Which would only show your concept on the… “neologism”, and might not possibly be the same as everyone else’s.

But yeah, if you bloggers posted about it maybe we could all agree on the basic points that define what “gar” really is/evolved into.

@Bridge Bunny: Uhhh, this wasn’t really a “Best KOTOKO OP/ED” discussion (Asu he no Namida isn’t even KOTOKO, it’s MAMI), we were just ranking Onegai Teacher/Twins music. And how come you are missing Suppuration from your ranking?

  23. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

(Might as well add it in…)

I can’t classify Kotoko songs in a static ranking chart. Sometimes, I feel like “agony”, at times “being” or other times “Second Flight”. I just really put all her songs in to one playlist and blast them at times when I don’t have any idea on what to hear, usually leads me to spamming her for 2-3 days before I change playlists.

And, yes, not all the Onegai songs are sung by her. Kotoko did both the OP’s while Mami Kawada did the ED’s, except for Love A Riddle, although somehow both of them were easily mistaken for each other back then.
