Like a certain famous anime blogger, I watch a lot of old anime when the heat of the new season dies and my title choices are stabilzed. For example this season, I started with almost 15 series, raw and subbed, but now I’m just following 5-6, with only 3 of them still watching raw (namely Kanon, Otoboku and Mamoru-kun).
Currently, the old series I’m on to is Onegai Twins, the second and last series of the Onegai-verse, and my favourite amongst the two shows. I credit it to making me swing towards the moe side, making me a Kotoko fanboy (Second Flight is still one of her best songs, IMHO), giving me a RM500 phone bill (I was downloading the Lunar subs when it was airing in Japan back in 2003 with a 56K dial-up that charges by the minute on BT, go figure) and also making me GAR for the first time (though I’ve only realised it now… well Maiku is damn cool) so it will always have a place in my heart as one of my all-time favourites.
Onegai Twins is really a show that’s worth more than the sum of it’s parts. The characters might feel bland in this current age, but they’re really the predecessors of their moe stereotypes. I still feel a bit sad though that the Onegai-verse didn’t really continue on after the Twins, I would’ve like to see more of it, mostly because of the awesome place they chose to be the setting for the Onegai series and to see what more happens to the rest of the cast.
Now, back to watching them trying to turn Maiku over the “right side” :).
