A bit of nostalgia…

Hayate the Combat Butler

Hidoi sugiru~~~ t_t

Oh yeah, Hayate is so awesome.

Why this post? Well, I somewhat got an early Christmas gift in the form of Hayate the Combat Butler Vol.1 and Read or Dream Vol.1 for free (well, not exactly free, but still I didn’t have to pay :P). The VIZ Media version of it is kinda awesome and kept it almost true to the original… had to restrain myself from LOL’ing in public while I was reading it in the bus, especially on that page.. XD.

I /r/ anime adaption for Hayate. My dream cast would be Tomokazu Seki as Hayate and Chiwa Saito as Nagi. As for Maria… I’m thinking of Yui Horie :P. Kyo Ani, ya hearing me?

    @Kurogane:

    I’m requesting Horie Yui as Hayate, if only to emphasize on his trap-potential…

    No, I didn’t just think of that… damn :(

    Horie Yui should do Maria, hands down. Kugimiya Rie as Nagi, perfect. Hirano Aya as the awesomeness that is Hinagiku, I won’t accept no one else. Izumi should be… yes, this is where Chiwa Saito is best fit.

    Hayate is the one I can’t really figure, since Seki is more fit for tsundere or comedic roles, and his sky-high GAR stat might be a bit too much for our butler-in-debt. And Sugita is only fit for anything Kyon, so I’m ruling him out… BAH! Just use Saito/Yuuji (Hino Satoshi, if I’m not mistaken), so we can have the pair once again (and because of his master/servant relationship with Nagi, well, I hope we get a lot of “urusai!” and “muri!” from that :D)

    Hayate sucks! It’s so stupid that I even rate it below Negima. Now they need Shaft to make a Hayate anime. But there aren’t enough girls in it!

    I remember reading the first vol scanlated a while back. So awesome. Good to see that viz did not drop the ball with this title.

    It’s safe to say we can ignore tj_han’s comments….

    @sagematt: Actually I do feel that Tomokazu Seki would make an awesome Hayate, he has that “fun” tone to his voice. Kugimiya Rie’s voice is not bad for Nagi, but I’m biased towards Chiwa Saito since she can pull off an awesome bratty, ojou-sama voice. And oshii… Yui Horie as Hayate… NOESS!!!

    No problem. I’m screwed up in real life too because I can’t study. Might as well bring along a few other people with me XD.

    Just finished it. It’s quite good. Worth a buy.

    @Kuro:
    And I was expecting you to comment about Hirano Aya as Hinagiku :S
    I guess you are not too fond of the character, then (because I am).

    Anyways, who knows, looking back at what Haruhi and Lucky Star were, Hayate is the kind of series KyoAni WOULD do… *crosses fingers*

    ps. I’d place Seki as that other boy who is in love with Nagi. Gar and male tsundere are the two arquetypes that go with Seki (IMO), so I can’t really place him as Hayate (even if he is quite gar himself, but trap Seki = t3h no!).

    @sagematt

    I haven’t read up Hayate in a while, so I kinda forgot about the characters appearing later. At the time of writing, I was at vol.1 desu~~… cut me some slack, ok ;).

    Hinagiku would be awesome with Aya Hirano playing her, period, now that I’ve read up to vol.4 and v05c01. And as for why I thought of Seki as Hayate… go watch RAVE, which i still think as one of the best anime that no one has heard before.

    @Kuro: Wow, THE Seki and Kawasumi Ayako in stellar roles? Sweet, I didn’t notice that before. Too bad I watched CN’s dub… I almost puked.

    Maybe I’ll watch it someday, but not right now. I’m not in the mood for +26 episode series at the moment.

    (Still, trap Seki is still my main reason why I’m not choosing him…)

    @sagematt:

    Go and watch the real Japanese version as soon as possible. RAVE was one of the reasons I fell in love with anime and was one of the earliest animes I watched. I’m still waiting for them to animate the ending half of the story, since the anime only covered the events of the first 11 volumes.

    For some reason, Hayate really really reminds me of Haru, perhaps it’s their character design and the general awesomeness of them both..

    Wow, you are quite new into this then. I have been watching this since the early nineties or so.

    I would get the manga, since most of the time manga >>>> anime. Should I?

    Yeah, I’m quite new at this. I first started watching back in 2000. I still remember my first anime was You’re Under Arrest and the Ah! My Goddess OVA’s.

    >>I would get the manga, since most of the time manga >>>> anime. Should I?

    Yeah, the manga is awesome. The anime is a direct conversion of the manga too, for your note.

    I picked this up as a random holiday read i’m instantly sold out, Even through the setting is a little like He’s my master (reversed) but i found it a extremly good read. Its very fun to pick out all the parodies from animes all over the place, just looking a vol 10 i found bout 5-6 on Gundam, Zero, Conan.

    But i found Hayate is a bit over powered even at the start of the manga with the Gundam powered strength and unkillable body that rivals Urashima Keitaro. and also as the story progresses minor chars like tama-chan gets less and less srceen time.

    i’m looking forward to the anime and hope its going to be a 26 ep series. since 13 ep cant really cover much in series time at all…. and lol i kust realised the “Shiku Shiku Shiku” line is from CCS
