Fantasia of Reminiscence

Kanon

A day out together…

… and the sad revelation of Makoto’s real identity….

So.. the secret’s out. Makoto is actually the human form taken on by a fox that Yuuichi saved 10 years ago. Meeting up with Mishio Amano, thanks to a hint from Mai, Yuiichi is told that Makoto is not human, which sparks back his memories from 10 years ago when he had a crush on the real Sawatari Makoto and the only living thing who knew about it is the fox cub he saved then and released later.

Apparently knowing that he comes back, the fox exchanges its life and energy for a miracle to happen, which is to see him again, only this time in human form, much like the story of the crane wife, only with the fact that Makoto doesn’t have long to live, giving away her life for the short sparkle of this miracle to happen.

…. and that is why Kanon is awesome T.T . I am genuinly touched by the Tomokazu Sugita version of Yuiichi, and he is much more mature and fun than the old one. Oh dear… I think I’ll need a box of tissues ready next week.

And then, in the game, he has sex with the fox. This is why Kanon is not awesome.

Please uzumaki, don’t ruin this beautiful memory with that comment, I know is true but, the game is the game and the anime is the anime.. so let it be… onegai shimasu…

    I’m ready for now… o_o

Wow. If that is the “only” focus on why Kanon is not awesome, then I fear for your ability to give a good impression/review. Oh well. No loss for me (who is not overlooking almost every single element in the story).

Oh well. Another time, good sir.

Oh god, why the repulsion over sex. It’s just irrelevent. Irrespective of whether or not her has sex with Makoto, either anime or game, Makoto’s story is still a very touching one.

People need to be more open-minded this days…

I find it interesting that you brought up the crane wife. The Decemberists latest album is called The Crane Wife, after the story.

    poor foxy

Firstly, I’d like to say how much I enjoy reading your blog comments. (And your inclusion of our Suzumiya Haruhi novel translation links is most appreciated. )

Now with the niceties aside, I feel I must complain about this:

Why must you put the BIG SPOILER of Makoto being a fox IN THE FIRST SENTENCE? While I more or less guessed it, your spoiler-ish sentence right smack at the beginning of your post has half-ruined the surprise for me, I must say. Not everyone who came to read your blog has taken the time to see the episode yet. You could have at least put that revelation sentence INSIDE a permlink, since I never click on blog comments about episodes I’ve never seen. I only read what’s outside on your general page until then.

I hope this would help you to be more careful next time when writing about spoilers like these. Have a good day.

@Kinny: I sincerely apologise. I kinda forgot to do that since the episode had me emotionally affected. When I blog… I sometimes just pour things out and forget to take note of people’s feelings. I did not intend to spoil it at all in the first place, plus most of my social circle (both on and offline) have watched the show before, so I just got carried away and forgot that there are some people who are still new to the Kanon series orz.

I’ve edited the post already and hid the spoilers behind a permlink. I’m really sorry for accidentally spoiling this. I’ll try my best to not repeat this again.

“being a blogger sure is tough XD” somehow this phrase rings better in japanese for me. bad sign i’m watching too much anime /o/

as for the spoiler, just put on your mind that every time you open some blog, there ARE risks heh. so block away mentaly o_0

and well, lets see if episode 9 is a powerfull tearjerker or i wont be using tissues heh. (never saw kanon b4)

obs: that part of piropiropiropiro(or something like that) cracked me up heuaheua

I watched the entire first Kanon, so I’m immune to spoilers. :D

And Makoto’s story was truly touching. I think it was the most emotional part of Kanon for me, personally.
