Admittedly speaking.... I haven't played the original visual novels yet, so I have no idea on what constitutes as the original content.

Well... references to SuzuHaru is probably inevitable, since KyoAni is doing this coupled with Kyon'ichi's involvement. It's just that maybe KyoAni is making the parts that somewhat look like references but aren't, a little more "emphasis".

I love how people keep assuming everythings a reference to TMoHS and not the original game or series. But if you played the game you'd see 'OH ITS ACTUALLY LIKE THAT', and as stated above by whatever that thing is, Kanon was out long before Haruhi was even thought up. I mean theres obviously gonna be a few references, but the majority of everything people say is a 'reference' to TMoHS or some other work, is NOT. Its just like that in the game.

Haruhi's power is so great that the ORIGINAL VISUAL NOVEL had references to Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya in it, despite coming out four years before the Haruhi novels first came out.

>>So more reference to their past “projects” then, eh? (i.e. SHnY) ;P

Nope :P
He also sat there in the Kanon 2002

>>But, Elfen Lied?

Nayuki was going "Nyuu~~" when Kyon'ichi was calling for her to wake up. Nyuu is the name of Elfen Lied's protagonist.

>>I thought the self-narration (I turned around and Kaori was standing there) was a reference to the bishoujo game roots.

It could be also. I guess it's a double reference to both SuzuHaru and the bishoujo game style :).

>>And, yes, I’m calling him 91. Q1 (which follows the pattern) has been suggested, but I like 91 better.

I get your point, but out of my *HAWT BURNING PASSION AND LOVE* for him, I shall continue to use Kyon'ichi for him.

>>OMG…. watching the scene again… I now know why I found it mildly titillating too… Haruhi-sama! Pls forgive me!

It... is.... very very suggestive. Imagine if Akiko walked in at that moment...
