Killer Jams

Kanon 2006

This _is_ jam, isnt it?

Poor… poor Kyon’ichi. _Hountou ni taihen desu…_

Y’know.. if Kanon continues to be as awesome as it is for now…. I might not be able to watch any more anime….

So, Kyon’ichi no Yuutsu.. I mean, Kanon continues on with more awesomeness, ranging from Akiko’s killer jams, very blatant references and lots and lots of _kuinige_-loli-torpedoing (uguuuuuuuuuu~~~~~~~~~).

I have to say, KyoAni *loves* their references. I spotted no less than 3 references to SuzuHaru, a minor Elfen Lied one and I’m preeeetty sure there some I did not catch. Seriously, Kyon’ichi saying “If there are introductions that are not normal, I’d like to see it them.”, ” I’m just an ordinary transfer student.” and his self-narration habit….. if it’s not a reference, then I don’t know what is. I’ll have to give top marks to Kyo Ani for actually timing them so nicely with the situation. Sugita Tomakazu is definitely at his best element here, his style of cynical sarcasm never ever fails to make me gay for him.

Then…. the girls provided a *lot* of laughs today, ranging from Nayuki’s inability to wake up in the morning even with a mountain of alarms (I had to restrain from making a GIF of Kyon’ichi shaking her awake, anyone felt that was strangely erotic?) to Ayu’s missed “torpedo” and bumping in to a tree to kitsune-ko’s “revenge”(Auuu~~~… is it me or is there too many onomatopoeias being used here?!) on Kyon’ichi. Not only that, Kaori and Porter-boy were freakingly funny as getting to see Ayako-sama playing the mischievious type is heaven-sent, /r/ short OVA on them. Hell.. even the next episode preview had me laughing out loud all the way to the end, with kitsune-ko the main cause. I find myself lucky that police aren’t knocking on my door now to arrest me for disturbing the peace.

So far so good, I’m looking extremely forward to next week. Kanon 2006 is definitely infinitely better than the first hotchpotch that was Kanon 2002. Again, if Kyo Ani continues to be this good… I might have to give up normal anime watching soon.

You know, the more I watch of Kanon the less the 91 resembles Kyon. The resemblance was very, VERY striking while watching the “Prelude” (just as disturbing as when I went back to watch Honey & Clover), but watching the series his intonations aren’t as dry or deep-voiced they are for Kyon, so, for me, it’s clearly a different character.

And, yes, I’m calling him 91. Q1 (which follows the pattern) has been suggested, but I like 91 better.

Uguu, I noticed the SuzuHaru refferences too. That was so great. Episode 2 was so great.

    But, Elfen Lied?

I thought the self-narration (I turned around and Kaori was standing there) was a reference to the bishoujo game roots.

I’m torn whether to recommend Kyonon to my friends. On the one hand, it’s awesome and such. On the other hand, said friends don’t like the sort of slice-of-life that the first few episodes are…

OMG…. watching the scene again… I now know why I found it mildly titillating too… Haruhi-sama! Pls forgive me!

    >>But, Elfen Lied?

Nayuki was going “Nyuu~~” when Kyon’ichi was calling for her to wake up. Nyuu is the name of Elfen Lied’s protagonist.

    >>I thought the self-narration (I turned around and Kaori was standing there) was a reference to the bishoujo game roots.

It could be also. I guess it’s a double reference to both SuzuHaru and the bishoujo game style :).

I get your point, but out of my *HAWT BURNING PASSION AND LOVE* for him, I shall continue to use Kyon’ichi for him.

It… is…. very very suggestive. Imagine if Akiko walked in at that moment…

Haruhi’s power is so great that the ORIGINAL VISUAL NOVEL had references to Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya in it, despite coming out four years before the Haruhi novels first came out.

I love how people keep assuming everythings a reference to TMoHS and not the original game or series. But if you played the game you’d see ‘OH ITS ACTUALLY LIKE THAT’, and as stated above by whatever that thing is, Kanon was out long before Haruhi was even thought up. I mean theres obviously gonna be a few references, but the majority of everything people say is a ‘reference’ to TMoHS or some other work, is NOT. Its just like that in the game.

Admittedly speaking…. I haven’t played the original visual novels yet, so I have no idea on what constitutes as the original content.

Well… references to SuzuHaru is probably inevitable, since KyoAni is doing this coupled with Kyon’ichi’s involvement. It’s just that maybe KyoAni is making the parts that somewhat look like references but aren’t, a little more “emphasis”.
