I finally finished after pausing at episode 13 so long ago... There was just so much going on for me to watch and then there was the huge backlog. Oh how the downloads took forever...

At first Simoun seemed like just a slow but well developed show, but after watching just a few more episodes I finally realized how deep it is. I really can't compare it to any other series. Every developement seemed needed, and nothing uneeded was added. Not to mention amazing characters... Not one I don't like anymore. Of course number one will always be Mamiina...

In anycase, Simoun has managed to become one of my top anime now. And personally, I think it's the best of both seasons it aired.

Actually... I really need to look over my top anime list in my mind now. Simoun could qualify for number one. I need to rewatch this from episode one, soon.

Zzz..., growing up is always bittersweet, I know I am, and as humans, the dream of eternal youth is a well entrenched concept in our collective psyche.

Simoun can be seen as having this theme as one of it's main points. For me, I think that their choice was not right nor wrong, but just the embodiment of an ideal.

That is a question of whether there is only happiness or there is a right kind of happiness. I lean more to the line of thought that it is better to be miserable for the right reason than to be happy for the wrong reason.

Choices should be made for...good reason...and I don't consider the refusal to make a choice a decision at all. The dream for a infinitely long deferal from choice doesn't seem to be a very responsible dream. It just seem like stasis and a delusion.

Yeah as you can see I'm just a tad bitter about growing up!

Wait a minute...is Geneon considering licensing Marimite? Or was that just a demand that IF Geneon was to license another yuri series that it be Simoun?

I can't see it as a mistake. They are becoming one with the universe, while everyone else (including us) is scuffling along in the so-called real world. They didn't seem very unhappy, did they?

Yes, in a sense, that is one way of looking at it.

For me, though, I prefer to think of it as an embodiment of an ideal, of being eternally a 'maiden'. It might not be the best choice, or even the correct one, but it certainly is a dream that many hope for, and Neviril & Aaeru embodied this dream for them, the Chor Tempest.

Paraietta appears twice in the graffiti --- one is the crossed-out foreshadowing of her choice at the spring, the other is the chibi-Paraietta next to Neville-with-flowers.

We saw her start on the graffiti in the last episode (maybe two episodes ago --- when they were having their last fling on the Arcus Prima), so it's her work.

I agree that sending Aeru and Neville off has the role of fixing that moment in time. But it's kind of ironic --- they're eternally young in a ghost world, while all the other girls are growing up and making their mark on the world: Rodoreamon arguing before the council (in some sense fuliflling the role that Neville was being groomed for), Paraietta running an orphanage, Morinas raising a family, Limone and Dominura founding a religion. In a sense, I view Neville and Aeru's choice as a negative, a sort of Peter-Pan rejection of maturity, while the others accepted it, and are reaping the fruits of doing so.

As much as my intentions to support it can go, I'm afraid I can't afford the DVD's myself, unless I die horribly of starvation, thirst and loan sharks.

Maybe in the future, maybe in the future, when either I'm earning RM100K a year, living in Japan or the exchange rate of ringgit to yen is 100yen to RM1..
