I haven’t been watching Simoun, but this situation sounds pretty similar to Duncan’s death in the Last of the Mohicans movie.

Haesslich, I’m getting the non-Simoun-Fans releases for the later episodes. I’ve got all their released ones for now, but I can’t stand waiting for the rest of the episodes. I’m going to keep the Simoun-Fans version for my archives of course.

Muey, yeah, now I know why. Life’s a bitch for poor Mamiina ._., and yeah, I guess the ending of episode 20 is meant to give her poetic send off. It’s just that like Zzz… says, it’s quite random.

It’s just for poetic effect, but it’s such a great imagery you can hardly fault them for it :).

Or, you could take it as Mamiina returning to her roots and continuing the gardening buisness, just as like parents… :p.

That whole incident, not Mamina’s sacrifice mind you, kind of threw my entire theory of why the war took place, and I don’t mean the reason given in the 1st episode, for a nice loop. I also have to wonder about the significance of the field of flowers too, it seemed so random but considering who and when…what was that about?

Kuro – if you’re getting Simoun-Fans releases (and you should be), there’s a LOT of seeds out there. I should know – I’m one of them.

Adam: The manner of her death, and the way it went, is probably one of the main contributing factors (IMO) to the way the series ends, or is ending. She, a sacred Simoun-pilot, went down hard defending those who would’ve otherwise been executed in her place for their actions… and given who they were, I suspect this is pivotal to several plot developments further down the chain.

Muey: It may have been obvious, but that didn’t make it any less effective as a death. On top of it robbing Rodraeamon/Lodraemon of someone who she cared about deeply.

You know, there IS a reason why it reads “Life’s a bitch … …. … …” in Mamiina’s profile in the relationship chart ;).

I’m very torn myself over Mamiina’s passing – Partly because I detest the obvious plot device and because she was(/is!) my favourite character of the series, but yet it’s hard to deny the effectivness and, awsomeness of it in spite of all that. ;_; . My poor Granny ;_;

Though, the most annoying thing for me is that we were robbed of the best couple in the series. Support well-natured salaryman-Lodreamon and Family-head-honcho-powerwife Mamiina :D :D!

@Adam, it’s normal to die saving your friends, but to die to save your “enemies” takes so much more, it’s unfathomable.

Mamiina’s death was so memorable in the way she died to save her ’supposed’ enemies rather than choose to live on their sacrifices. That was what that touched me the most, out of all.

No kidding. Mamiina’s has to be the most insanely, stupidly, wonderfully honourable ways to die that I’ve seen on film for a long time.

I feel sorry for poor Rodoreamon… after episode 18 or so it’s almost impossible to deny that she had a crush on Mamiina a mile wide.
