Utawarerumono licensed.

Now… normally I don’t post North American license announcements since I’m halfway round the globe from there anyways, but this just cracks me up.

ADV to Release Utawarerumono (2006-08-05 12:41:20)
ADV announced that they have licensed Utawarerumono, which will be released in North America under the name Shadow Warrior Chronicles. It is expected to be released early 2007.

And they’ve taken Suzumiya Haruhi as well(fake news only)… instead…

ADV Acquires Shin Angyo Onshi (2006-08-05 14:26:48)
ADV Films has announced that they have acquired Shin Angyo Onshi and will release it under the name “Blade of the Phantom Mask.”

ADV seems to be on a roll here. Haven’t watched it, but I’m pretty sure that’s still a totally lame name.

….. glhf my fellow American otakus.

Did they use the random anime title generator for that one? Even if ‘The Sung-of Thing’ sounds a bit awkward in english (for all I know, it’s awkward in japanese…) they could have done better.

OMG man it sounds like a little kids cartoon now and where the hell did that come from… really as extraclassiclite said, they really could have done so much better. it makes me wonder who the hell is deciding this stuff now. if they’re gonna screw it up so bad might as well try and take their job so at least it gets done right.

ADV do NOT have Haruhi. Kadokawa USA have just confirmed at their panel that Haruhi is not yet licensed by anyone.

The One Being Sung sounds a helluva lot better than Shadow Warrior Chronicles… that title sounds like a really bad Sega 32X game that no one bought.

Hopefully people will still buy the series.

[…] Thank goodness it was all a bad dream. It brings a smile to Kuuya’s and Sakuya’s faces. From ANN: In August, ANN was informed by ADV Films that they were planning on releasing the Utawarerumono under the moniker “Shadow Warrior Chronicles.” However ADV has now confirmed with us that Utawarerumono will be released using its original Japanese name, the first volume will be called “Utawarerumono: Mask of a Stranger.” Chris Oar of ADV Films said “Originally we wanted to make it as accessible to as many people as possible,” adding that they decided to reverse this decision following fan-feedback.
