Franca-chama!!!

Coyote Ragtime Show

I’ve fallen in love with her. She’s just pure win. Or maybe I just have a weakness for loli’s with tragic pasts. In anyways, she’s god damned cute.

Coming into the 2nd episode, CRS is still on a winning run. This episode introduces Franka of course and doesn’t waste time in telling of her past, her relationship with Mister and the meaning of the treasure. Simple and yet tragic enough to evoke sympathy for her at the same time. There’s still the mystery of the form of the treasure still to be revealed.

Of course, the 12 Shimai is fully restored and in full swing this time, leading a full-scale assault to capture Mister and Franca, without wasting time. But personally, my favourite part is from Angelica and Chelsea. Chelsea’s intelligent usage of her “assets” is god damned funny yet god damned true at the same time. And it’s good to see they didn’t introduce that Rock n’Roll character in the beginning to waste time, as he plays a role in the end of the episode.

Dialouge wins hard as well… with notable gems in store. The writer deserves more than his pay. The ending this time is one of ufotable’s trademark claymation sequences, and it’s good to see them making their mark in the anime business. I predict that CRS will lift their name up highly.

Let’s hope for CRS to continue to be made of old-school coyote coolness, gothloli android action and Franca-chama cuteness. This will be an enjoyable season if it does :).

Ore mo tsukaima ni naritai….

Zero no Tsukaima

If I get to see my master naked every night and gain some deus ex machina power in return for being forced to sleep on the floor, eat hard bread and do her laundry, I’ll gladly become a familiar.

Seriously, even though Zero no Tsukaima is reminding me hard of Shakugan no Shana and Harry Potter, I’m glad it still has it’s distinguishing features.

First off, Hiraga isn’t a wimp like Yuuji was and he definitely proves it in the second episode, with his revenge and fight against Mr. Playboy (don’t care to remember his name). I hope his sarcasm and manliness remains intact for the series, as it seems to be the only thing that’s making me like him.

Louise, meanwhile, isn’t as closed as Shana was of her true feelings. It was nice to see her concern towards Saito in this episode. Much more fun if the tsun tsun and dere dere moments are balanced I guess. Plus it seems she has a really kinky side, with the chains and whips.

Sure, Zero’ll degenerate in to harem fun sooner or later, but let’s hope that J.C. Staff at least makes it enjoayble to watch.

Negima 140 - Sayonara Negi

It has been fun… but all good things must come to an end…. too bad it’s a bad end though…

Negima! 140

Poor Negi…

So now…. since we have the ermine sidekick, can we make Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Konoka, starring Konoka as the accidental mahou shoujo heroine and Setsuna as the cool and determined antagonist character?

Petopeto-san Wrapup.

Petopeto-san

Not exactly the best anime yet still not the worst anime I’ve seen. Admitedly, the idea and the setting were quite good, unfortunately to be marred by the “WTF?” writing and story progression.

Well, I guess the good things and the bad ones were in the correct balance in Petopeto-san so that I could enjoy it until the end, although not before having some of my braincells about to get killed. To be honest, the writing felt really haphazard and looks as if it was written with any much plan to it, most notably the parts about the Imoten and for the character developments of the cast. The ending also suffered and I was really struggling to grasp the logic of it…. but oh well…

The best parts about Petopeto-san is undoubtably the setting of having monsters and humans coexist, which could’ve made quite an interesting concept to sell. This is backed up with the extremely well designed characters, ranging from the extremely cute and moé Petoko, the slient Nuri and honourable mention goes to Chochomaru and Kuguru, for what must be the sexiest kappa shimai in anime-dom. One could say I watched it purely for the winnage that is the both of them ;).

Another saving grace of the show is probably the seiyuus. Kana Ueda really does a very good and cute Kansai-ben with Petoko. Other notable seiyuus in show for this series is Ayako Kawasumi as Kanna and Chiwa Saito as Chie, but apart from Kana Ueda’s performance, there isn’t any much to say about the rest of the seiyuu’s.

In conclusion, Petopeto-san had a nice idea, setting and characters, which was unfortunately counter balanced with bad writing and story planning. Still an enjoyable watch though, if for the “WTF?!” hillariously less than logical moments and plan points (coughimotencough). Also a good watch for Kana Ueda fans as well.

Summer First Impressions: Chokotto Sister

Chocosis

Aww… how cute…. did you overload?

The show that Strip… someone we know quite well has been waiting for. Well… I do understand his feelings, watching Chokotto Sister does make me /r/ imouto for Christmas as well. I don’t really mind if it’s as cute as Choko-chan. But to be honest, real life is much much more cruel, so keep that in mind, eh.

Not a bad first episode. Granted, the show went a different way that the manga, by having the shopping sequence instead of the gangster one. It seems that the production team will be emphasizing on the sweetness of the story and less on the fanservice moments, which is fine by me, since it will be quite hard to achieve the level of fanservice that was in the manga with the anime short of making it into a hentai.

Still, the core of the Chocosis is the story and the characters. It will be nice to see it in the anime form, and hopefully, they will manage to make it touching without being cheesy. Haruma also seems much more cooler and decent than in the manga, while Choko-chan is as cute as usual. Newcomer Momoko Saito is doing a nice job with Choko’s voice.

Animation and art-wise, it retains the manga style, while still having it’s own feel, so it’s not that bad, than from what I saw in the pre-release promo material. The OP is fine, while the ED is really a “WTF?” type of song. The Neko-nyan Dance is somewhat of a Choko trademark and although it wouldn’t probably be as popular as the Haruhi dance, but I’m sure for certain that someone has learned it XD.

Good expectations for the Chocosis anime for now. Hopefully, all my favourite parts in the manga will be told and done nicely. Not very bloggable, though I might make a few entries here and there.

Oh, and /r/ for Ms. Santa spinoff. She must be the coolest Santa I’ve seen in anime. Too bad she only has like 3 mins of fame :P.

Amaenaideyo! Katsu Wrap-up

Amaenaideyo

Haruka needs her own series.

Kazuki just wins, with a lot of thanks to her seiyuu, Asami Sanada (famous for her Digi Charat and Viita roles), who I must say, pulled off her multitude of faces perfectly. It was fun to see her turn from cute to seductress to evil at the flip of a coin.

On to serious business, Amaenaideyo! Katsu is a perfectly well done sequel to the first season, and extends the story well, even though it does not resolve it yet again. I am highly suprised to see such quality from a series that was relegated to the anime shitlist since it’s debut. Amaenaideyo! really defines “do not judge a book by it’s cover”.

The best part of the show, which I’ve said before, is it’s equal focus on the characters of which none are ignored or relegated to stereotype roles. Not only that, all the characters are almost impossible to hate, which each of them having their own unique quirks that break them out of their “moe type” roles. The character development is satisfyingly done, though I would love to see more of Haruka. Perhaps left for a 3rd season, I suppose?

One more aspect that was greatly enjoyable about Amaenaideyo is definitely the parodies that abound in the show, from Kamen Riders to the EVA sequence and even a Gatekeeper’s reference. There are much more to spot, but definitely the most memorable must’ve been the EVA homage which left me whether to laugh or stay in shock.

Another point to moot about Amaenaideyo! is of course the seiyuu work, which all of them perform admirably, most notably from Ryoko Shintani’s Hinata, Asami Sanada’s Kazuki and of course, Mai Nakahara’s Chitose. It’s also a joy to listen to the Amaenaideyo! themes with the main cast singing both the cutely enjoyable OP’s while Mai Nakahara handles nicely both the ED’s. My personal favourite would be Katsu’s OP, Amaenaideyo!, as it was one of the rare times I did not skip the OP sequence in marathon. That song is oddly addictive, I must say.

In the end, I’d like to appeal to all the otakus out there that have relegated this show to their personal shitlist to seriously give it a try, unless suffering allergies to all forms of slapstick fanservice. I do assure you, the fanservice is done extremely well though, as I greatly enjoyed it. Last of all, thanks to the Mendoi team for not subbing this, it’s hard to find such great sub teams nowadays that dare to take up lesser known but good series’ like Amaenaideyo! , since most teams tend to focus on popular series’ to satiate their e-p0n0s’.

Summer First Impressions: NHK ni Youkoso

NHK ni Youkoso!

I have a newfound respect for Gonzo. I started episode 1 with high hopes that Gonzo can and will fail me, but I was greatly(and happily) disappointed.

The first episode of NHK follows the spirit of its manga counterpart. The first 5 minutes of Satou’s internal battle was extremely well done and the introduction to the start of his hikikomori-ism was done well….. never have I had been disappointed so happily. The surrealism of it was extremely well done, and I can’t help but think that is this really done by Gonzo.

My initial worries that Gonzo screwed up the art based on the promo material released earlier on, was proven wrong as the character designs followed the manga ones quite accurately. The choices of seiyuu were well made, with Daisuke Sakaguchi, who interestingly played Shounen Bat in Paranoia Agent,(EDIT: Factual error) Yutaka Koizumi voicing Satou convincingly, and upcoming star, Yui Makino voicing Misaki. I must add that it’s good to hear more of Yui Makino and her Misaki voice is extremely well done.

Hopefully, for me and the rest of the Misaki lovers, Gonzo will be able to sustain the quality of episode 1 for the whole series. But I’m not hanging much of false hope here and the cynical realist in me is saying that it’s impossible for Gonzo to do that. Well.. time will tell.. whether will I be proven right or wrong. In the meantime, let’s just enjoy the wonderful ride that is NHK ni Youkoso ;).

That’s right, Mushishi rocks

Coyote Ragtime Show

BEST FRICKIN’ PARODY SUB EVER!

God, whoever you are, DMP, you guys freaking rock at making a parody sub. The parodies were spot-on and weren’t overdone, unlike some I’ve seen where every frickin’ line is a total parody. You guys just rock for actually parodying by following the sounds and not over-parodying.

Thank god I watched gg’s version 1st, if not, I swear the “Mushishi commercial” will be forever stuck in my head.

Oh, and here’s some real Mushishi content, for those who were lead here by it ;).

Mushishi

Ginko rocks, doesn’t he?
