Summer First Impressions: Chokotto Sister

Chocosis

Aww… how cute…. did you overload?

The show that Strip… someone we know quite well has been waiting for. Well… I do understand his feelings, watching Chokotto Sister does make me /r/ imouto for Christmas as well. I don’t really mind if it’s as cute as Choko-chan. But to be honest, real life is much much more cruel, so keep that in mind, eh.

Not a bad first episode. Granted, the show went a different way that the manga, by having the shopping sequence instead of the gangster one. It seems that the production team will be emphasizing on the sweetness of the story and less on the fanservice moments, which is fine by me, since it will be quite hard to achieve the level of fanservice that was in the manga with the anime short of making it into a hentai.

Still, the core of the Chocosis is the story and the characters. It will be nice to see it in the anime form, and hopefully, they will manage to make it touching without being cheesy. Haruma also seems much more cooler and decent than in the manga, while Choko-chan is as cute as usual. Newcomer Momoko Saito is doing a nice job with Choko’s voice.

Animation and art-wise, it retains the manga style, while still having it’s own feel, so it’s not that bad, than from what I saw in the pre-release promo material. The OP is fine, while the ED is really a “WTF?” type of song. The Neko-nyan Dance is somewhat of a Choko trademark and although it wouldn’t probably be as popular as the Haruhi dance, but I’m sure for certain that someone has learned it XD.

Good expectations for the Chocosis anime for now. Hopefully, all my favourite parts in the manga will be told and done nicely. Not very bloggable, though I might make a few entries here and there.

Oh, and /r/ for Ms. Santa spinoff. She must be the coolest Santa I’ve seen in anime. Too bad she only has like 3 mins of fame :P.

Well, I’ll just say Choko has an endearing way of saying “onii-chan” that makes me into a worthless heap. :) But in a moe way and not from that siscon high everyone suspects. :P

Stripey: After reading your entries, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that you ARE Siscon-afflicted. ;)

Still, I like this series so far for how it plays up the Chobits-like parts of having Haruma deal with his new little sister and the responsibility involved with raising someone, without going into areas which would be considered indecent at best. The nice bits about the manga were how the characters both did and didn’t fit into the various stereotypes; Choko was an imouto dedicated to her older brother without really clinging to him in an fashion which brings forth thoughts of words that rhyme with ‘interest’ (Maika from Magikano, or Nemu from Da Capo), Haruma isn’t thinking of Choko in a way which involves making her a perfect mate or anything, the flower-shop girl has a relationship.. and the triangle which does exist is.. well, it’s not showing any signs of resolution anytime soon. Nor is everyone after Haruma, which is even better.

Which reminds me…. the part when Haruma unwraps his “present”, I was half expecting him check around for the “power” button and that Choko would go “Chii~~~”.

That’s just because you’re all dirty-minded folk, Kurogane. ;) It’s not THAT like Chobits, at least not so far in the manga (aka: Chii/Choko doesn’t go after her owner as the ‘only one for her’).

Ah thanks Hasselich… it’s reassuring that the series sounds like it has a nice romantic setup although I’m slightly disappointed that there wouldn’t be angsting over taboo relationships. :P

[…] I feel obligated to blog Chokotto Sister. I get the feeling that my fellow siscon brethens would bar my entry to imouto paradise should I overlook this series. Well, brothers-in-arms(-of-your-kawaii-imoutos), I regret to report that ChokoSis seems to be lacking in that incestuous passion we were all pandering for…. and I’m actually thankful for it. […]

Stripey: does your girlfriend know about this… fetish? ;)

I’m just glad we’re not digging into that territory again, myself – the series already flirts enough with the forbidden territory as it is just by the circumstances of Choko’s arrival and her initial adaptation to his household, along with what the landlady ends up thinking about what Haruma and Ayano were doing in his apartment along with Choko…

(Hint: Ayano came in to drop off something, and the pervert in Serizawa – the landlady’s – imagination got interesting thoughts about what those two were doing in front of Choko. Of course,it doesn’t help that SHE herself wants to do these sorts of things to him…)
