I think the reason Hagu looks better this season is because she looks a) more real and less chibi/SD, and b) she actually LOOKS like she's more than 10 years old, which means she can be seen as an attractive young woman rather than a slightly freakish hobbit-like creature. That profile shot when she's crying, post-Takemoto-rescue in particular looks much, much more mature than even some of the shots when she was drowning herself in work while Takemoto was off on his self-realization journey... and when she looked miserable there, she looked about the most mature that she ever did, during the first season. Here, her features are sharper and less childish; which is an improvement, although Shuuji having sharper features is one I'm less keen on. Ayumi's also lost some baby-fat, which makes her look thinner and older... and Rika's face has become less rounded as well.

Hagu's change of appearance was a massive improvement - the others... eh.

All I hope for is that they do not make Morita's story too outlandish, a little crazy sure but not so much as to take away the still lingering realism in the show.

I really agree that Hagu looks alot better this season, but then she was drawn in chibimode for like, what, 90% of the first season? :P

"Am I the only one who finds that hiccuping is extremely moé-inducing?"

... so THAT'S what I was feeling the entire time. I went with "cute" but the word didn't come to me now. Kudos.

"I think I must be the only person to harbour thoughts that Hagu-chan isn’t exactly the definition of cute last season."

no, you're not the only person... BUT I THOUGHT SHE WAS CUTE! FOOL! But I'm not going to deny, Hagu's started looking much better since the final few episodes of the first season.
